These are the most recent pictures I have. Things are a bit more crispy overall right now! In rough order from front yard (north), around one side, to back (south). I do love the tall summer phlox in the first and last pictures. Things that bloom well through the summer aren’t that common.

I am late to this, but I put in LOTS of flowers this year and last. Last year I put in a big bed on the south side of the house. This year I uprooted a lot of bushes on the north side that died when Texas froze over, which freed up a lot more space for flowers.

August has revealed what areas are not adequately watered by the automatic sprinklers. Dead or wilting plants are a pretty good indication!

The good thing is that I'm getting a lot smarter about where in my yard gets lots of sun/less sun but very intense/partial sun. And then also, what plants will thrive in each of those areas. Still, a lot of things are going to move around when they are dormant over winter.

DH thought he would help the basil by repotting it in shredded coconut husks. Must have changed the pH so drastically, that now it looks like a pot of sticks. Our meyer lemon tree is booming, at a whopping 8" tall...

:D

We have two decorative containers that flank our front door. I planned one each spiller, thriller, and filler, but must have written the wrong plants down. We have three thrillers all competing for space and the containers look like they have major bedhead.

I planned the garden quite poorly this year!

This hasn't been a very satisfying gardening year. Large pots of zinnia and cosmos that have been glorious in past years were less inspring this year. Turns out all my favourite plants (these among them) are subject to something called the "aster yellows", spread through leafhoppers and incurable. It has also infected my rudbeckia and I think the heliopsis, too. I can't even grow echinacea, which I want desperately. A neighbour (a master-level gardener) thinks it could be a mix of aster yellows and hungry rabbits. Since this realization I have been slowly ripping things out - much earlier than usual. On the up side, an overly aggressive agastache his filled in some spots that would otherwise be empty.

Our front yard is being transformed into a stone patio. It will be gorgeous when it is done. I can't wait. I will take pictures when it is finished. I can't imagine how the guy does it in the heat. Amazing!

Beautiful garden and photos, Runcarla! Trying to keep up with our 3 tomato plants that have yielded a bumper crop this year! The sungold cherry tomatoes are winding down just as our San Marzano beauties are ripening. Made a goat cheese tomato crostata for happy hour on the patio yesterday, topped with chives and basil from our herb garden. Delicious!

Not so good :/ I was a much better plant mom when I was wfh.
But I just bought a swamp milkweed, and there was a little monarch caterpillar on it Not sure where he/she went now though. Will have to check all the leaves.
Last night a cicada was on the outside of our screened porch. The cats went Bonkers! I think the cicada was teasing them cause it kept hanging around. I hope it stays outside, cause I don't think my house insurance people would like the results if it comes in

Is it surviving through drought and heat? Or are you getting deluges where you live? Deadheading the roses and salvia after June blooming resulted in flowers again this month, and it looks like the Shasta daisies and Phlox will repeat as well. The lavender has thrown up a few late stems as has one day lily, but nothing like their earlier showing. For the most part, the garden is gearing up for fall with Rudbeckia, Sedum, Japanese Anemone, Russian Sage - the usual…

The veg patch is still producing: tomatoes, Zucchini, green beans. The basil loves the heat! The lettuce doesn’t. We’ve had potatoes twice - I dig up one plant and the tubers go from garden to pot to plate in under an hour. I had a few green onions, but most of them just disappeared! I don’t know if they got shaded out, or if the varmints got them. The carrots are taking their time and are only the size of a pencil atm.
