Such gorgeous gardens! I love gardening, but gardening doesn't love me (allergies). I have a raised bed for veggies and herbs, a flower garden out back and a bigger one out front. All my roses survived the winter (a problem here) and June is their favorite month, so if I get a chance I will take some pics.

I have adopted gardening too. I think because this is probably my last house (many previous transfers ) I am really enjoying my garden too . Will see if I can update from FB, where my pictures are but just this past weekend I dug out a new strip maybe 10 feet wide and transplanted host as, iris, ferns and added two new clematis....I find it very soothing

Some beautiful gardens here! Ours is of the "edible" variety. The photo is a few weeks old, the onions were still in the ground and the zucchini and squash were much smaller then. The second image shows the usual harvest of zucchini and squash - repeats every few days like this and it's honesty hard to keep up with cooking it and giving it away! Good thing we have a small restaurant in our village as they appreciate the extras. I recently found a fantastic recipe for a Curried Zucchini Soup that has made good use of it, along with the normal grilled variety and of course zucchini bread.

We grow all kinds of things --carrots, kale, lettuces fennel, okra, potatoes shallots, garlic, herbs of all types and now the tomatoes are taking off. I love to cook so it's a wonderful thing that DH started for me (he does all the heavy work really). He also has a small vineyard started and small blackberry bushes in the distance by the woods.

Just a normal city lot -- it is a bit bigger because it is a corner, but about 1/2 my lot is hill, and the flat area we have kept for the kids to play!

Your garden is so lovely!

I'm afraid we're messed up this year and didn't get it together. No veggie garden. Although, we do have a late season. We might get one planting in.

Wow I am very inspired by your creations. Truly lovely! I was all set yesterday and again this morning to snap some photos but alas it is pouring again today. Will try again tomorrow!!
Carla what a lovely use of yellow in your beds. Ceit your dd is so adorable and it sounds like you will enjoy lots of fresh fruits. Do you have an additional plot of garden or is this on your residential plot?
Deb your use of sculpture - drool worthy. The cranes I am in love with. May I ask where you got them?
Janet - you have created an outdoor oasis. Lovely.

When we moved into this house seven years ago, we went from a flat small yard with lots of sun and sandy soil to a hilly, shady, big, wooded yard! So our garden plan is very different from what it used to be. We did a huge amount of work on the outside of our house over the last few years -- regraded the long, steep driveway to make it safer and more inviting, added lighting, new decking, and had a landscape architect help us design a "zen" space to go with our contemporary house. We absolutely love it and hang out in our yard a lot.

Our old place had flower beds with perrenials, but this is very different -- more larger shrubs and trees, ground cover for the large spaces, and clumping plantings that will eventually spread and leave little space for weeds to encroach. Lots of hydrangeas, azaleas, nandina, hostas, liriope, laurel, and Japanese maples. Here and there we have some day lilies and irises from my mom's garden, and we've been having success with clematis too. The deer are eating the couple of rose bushes my husband wanted so badly to try (we had well over a dozen rose bushes at our old house).

I'd love to plant some veggies somewhere but we don't get a lot of sun except on our back deck. We did tomato plants in some planters last year and they worked out pretty well, but we didn't get around to doing that this year.

Oh gardening! This is what I do when I cannot go shopping! :-)
Runcarla, Ceit and Deb, you gardens are lovely.
For 12 years we live in our house I slowly was removing the grass and replacing it with gardens. Last fall the last patch of grass in the backyard was gone so we are completely lawn free now.
This spring is very good for the garden, cool and moist and we did not have a single damaging frost - everything grows as crazy!
I will take pictures sometime and post them later.

Carla and Ceit, your gardens are beautiful. Yea, MaryK, that will be so nice. We are hitting the hotter weather here in northern California. The spring blooms are done and buds are setting for the next flush.

My garden is going well! My cherry tress have set fruit, a couple plums set on my plum trees, I'll have apples this year, currants, a first crop of serviceberries and gooseberries, and I am expecting a monster crop of raspberries!

The vegetable gardens are kind of eh this year except for my carrots. Everything else (kale, beans, beets, chard, onions, leeks, hot peppers, tomatoes, potatoes) is languishing since it has been so cool. Here's my daughter with our first picking from the strawberry patch!

I have a corner lot with half the yard on a steep slope, so when we moved in, I was determined to have an orchard on the hill and edible things everywhere else! My only concession on the hill is rose bushes along the fence that parallels the sidewalk. Smelling good is ok too.

These photos show my gardens after 6 years.

When we moved in it was brand new construction, and bare dirt! I am especially proud of my front garden bed, as I scavenged all those rocks from the formerly empty lots around our house and built it myself.

This summer I will be mulching around the roses, putting in a new bed with grasses at my front walkway, and building a deck under our raised deck. I'll then make a trellis and grow grape vines up it for shade and privacy next year.

Lynn, fill a pot with some soil, and herbs for cooking for a mini garden.

Mia, Nicole, any pics?

Sorry, 'bout the dryness, Alicat. I have the challenge of harsh winters, and droughty and short summers. I plant things that like poor soils, and tolerate dryness. I fuss about a few things ( my sons get me a rose bush every Mother's Day--and though I try to keep them going, usually they succumb to our cold winter weather. )

Do you garden? I'm a bit mad for it, and over the almost 20 years we have lived in our house, I have been gradually expanding the gardens until I took over the small front and side yards of our corner lot. (DH doesn't mind. Less grass to mow?)

Pics from today...the yellow dwarf iris are having a heyday, and the tulips are still in bloom due to our cool spring.
