Kristine- Your post is so dead on its funny. I was just coming on here to mention that I am totally up for loosing some length and/or adding some bangs. I was going to ask you ladies with curls and bangs, how they them. Also, I just read a post on naturallycurly.com about a girl who had her hair shortened in the back and I've been thinking about doing it. My mom is a hairdresser and I sent her an email late last week asking if it would work for me. Haha!

Queen Mum- Thank you for posting that. I will check out the other curly hair discussion right now.

Janet- Thank you.... My twins just turned 1 in July.
I love naturallycurly.com I had forgotten about it till last week and have been catching up and finding so much there.

Dashrashy- I've heard about the spin pins and have been thinking about getting some.

I have to get mine wet every day, even if I don't wash it. Otherwise I need to use a gallon of hairspray with uneven results, which I don't like to do. Sleeping on it really flattens out and frizzes my hair, and I never feel right if I don't shower every morning anyway.

That probably doesn't help, and might not be the case for you since your hair is is coiled more than mine.

I just cut mine into a short layered bob in advance of my new baby's arrival (and the postpartum shedding I will have for the next few months), but all summer I wore it up in a twist, using large, sturdy up-do pins. I think they are Goody brand, and are the size of a large bobby pin, but are U-shaped and not flexible like small bobby pins or small up-do pins. Or a cute bun with curls hanging out ... not a perfect slick bun, but not a messy bun just done up with a ponytail holder either. A real bun, coiled, but with curls hanging out if that makes sense. What about a low, loose ponytail with your curls loosely pulled back?

Do you have any layers? Some long layers (like no shorter than jaw or cheekbone or even just chin length) around your face would be a fun way to add loose curls around your face.

One disappointment I have with my new haircut is that the layers are too short and my curl pattern has kind of disappeared. I know she cut it shorter so the cut will last longer than normal since my baby is due any day, but next time I go in I will be expressing my need for longer layers to preserve curls. So I do advise not cutting too short of layers, especially if you've not ever had layers! I have done short layers before, so I knew this would happen and I'm not fretting about it. But I'd hate for you to cut bangs and end up with short little curls instead of long, loose ringlets around your face!

I don't wash every day, but on the days I don't I just get some water in my hands and re-wet and re-scrunch the top layers of my hair, especially around my face. If my hair is really misbehaving, I will add a little leave-in conditioner. Doing this only takes a few minutes, but it refreshes my hair enough that it looks presentable.

I fought with my curly hair for years, and recently I have come to an accommodation with which I am happy: I have it cut in layers and I straighten the top layer and bangs and let the bottom layers do their thing. It lasts for a day or two or three with minimal morning touch-ups with the flat iron on top, and re-wetting on the bottom.

Note that I am not recommending that you follow suit -- I think you look awesome just the way you are! But I totally get the impulse to do something different/easier after becoming a mom!

I'm a huge fan of the messy bun. I either do it by only partially looping my hair through an elastic (like making a ponytail but stopping 3/4 of the way through the process), or with the (amazing) Goody spin pins. I also often do a modified french twist by gathering my hair into a low pony, twisting it, then flipping it up against the back of my head and securing with a perpendicular (horizontal) barrette, and letting the ends sort of stick up wavy/curly. Both of these work with side parts, center parts, hair slicked back, or with a pouf/fauxhawk thing going down the center.

I love your hair, Crystal! I especially like the "accessories" in picture 3 -- how old are they?

There is a lot of good information at naturallycurly.com. I've found that I can just run my wet hands over my hair on subsequent days, and that reactivates the product I put in on the first day. I just washed my hair this morning, and the final gel I put on top is Biosilk Rock-Hard Gelle (there are plenty of other alternatives, but this is what I used.)

Tomorrow, I should be able to scrunch my hair with wet hands, and that should reactivate the gel and help me to reshape my hair after sleeping on it.

There are some curl reviver sprays on the market which may help you to wear your hair down on the days you are not washing it. Your curls are beautiful.

I love the look of long curly hair and I agree with Kristine that bangs/fringe is a fun and stylish option.
there was a whole thread about curly hair a bit ago.. let me see if I can find it.
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....izz-issues

This was dealing more with how to combat the frizz issues.. but these gals had some great advice

Hi Crystal, your hair is very pretty. Have you considered adding a fringe (bangs)? I have a fairly similar hair texture and I love the way a fringe updates it. At first I never thought it would work but after a few months of training with a blowdryer the fringe is fairly straight even when I wake up. A fringe is great for ponytails or slicking back because it adds some softness around the face.

If you're ever willing to lose length, a reverse bob would look great on you and work well with your hair texture. It's ever so slightly longer in the front which creates a nice shape on wavy hair. It's pretty much wash and go. A reverse bob would look great with a fringe also.

I'm needing some ideas of things to do with my hair. I have long, pretty wavy hair. I don't have time right now to shower every day, so I need ideas of how to wear it the days I don't wet it all. Right now I've just been wearing it in a ponytail, but I have to slick it back to get rid of all the strays and frizzies. I hate this look! Its not flattering at all. But I have no idea how else to wear it.

Picture 1 is my hair down
Picture 2 is what I do with it sometimes, pony with small bump in front.
Picture 3 is my parted slicked back pony
I also tend to wear it just slicked back, but I try not to be photographed like that.

Please help?
