I used to take self portaits in the mirror without a flash. Then there was construction in my building and I lost my source of natural light for a year. There was a minor protest on the forum so I broke down & got a tripod. Now I take them on my deck with the tripod and self timer. I find a fill flash helps immensely with colors.

I have tried a few things. Started off by using my iphone on a tripod my DH made for me. Have done the same with my Ipad :) Now I use a camera on a tripod with a self timer. I use a remote so I can stay in "position" and not being walking to and from the camera all the time.

I think use a couple of apps for cropping and resizing etc, iRetouchFree and Picmonkey are great.

I have one of those Gorilla tripods and I put that on the counter. I was going to try some outdoor pics (for better quality) this summer but never got around to it.

Looking forward to seeing some of your outfit photos!

I take all my photos myself. Mostly I use my point and shoot digital camera with the ten second timer followed by a triple shot. I found a couple of spots in my house with decent lighting, a place to put the camera, and a good focal length. I do crop my photos to get rid of some background, as I find the camera angle distortion to be much less if you use a longer focal length and high resolution, then drop the photo back down to size. I don't use a tripod; I just place the camera on a flat surface (counter, table, windowsill, etc).

On occasion I use my iPad but it is an older one with a crummy camera so I generally avoid it unless I don't have my camera on hand. I have a free app that lets you do timer shots, and my iPad case allows me to balance it upright to take the photo.

I usually use my phone and a full length mirror. My lighting isn't the best, but until recently, it's just been to get a bead on what I'd put together and whether I liked it enough to do it again.Ha!

All of the above!

When I started, I asked my daughter or husband to take photos for me. Last Christmas I got a tripod so I set it up in the bedroom when I want to take pictures and use the self-timer. It takes some experimenting to get the angles right but once you do, it's a cinch. Other people use a counter but that never worked for me (pictures too blurry). And lots of people use their phones or IPads to take pictures, with or without various stands of different kinds.

ETA: Welcome! And it's a great way to figure out your style and get feedback. It really helps.

Hey all!

I've decided to try to start "documenting" what I wear. Partly to help me remember what were my favorite and most successful outfits. Every time I try to take a selfie in the bathroom mirror though, it simply does not do the outfit justice and its therefore kinda useless.

I see so many great pics here of what people wear day to day. How do you do it? Do you enlist help? Have a tri-pod set up somewhere? Something else I haven't thought of?

Thanks for the help!
