All of my knitwear is lightweight apart from one jumper. All cardigans are hung in my wardrobe all jumpers are folded in a drawer apart from one with pouffy sleeves which is hung. I always rotate my things so newly washed stuff goes at the bottom of any piles and usually what is towards the top gets worn next x

I no longer have any bulky sweaters (okay, I have one that I wear if I'm not leaving the house) and I do hang the finer-gauge ones on padded satin hangers. I haven't noticed any ill effects, but then it hasn't been my experience that knitwear lasts for eons anyway. It pills or gets a tiny moth hole right in the front and that's that.

I hang some of my lightweight cardigans and store the bulkier ones in drawers. When the season is over they all go in the drawers.

The sweaters that have just come from the dry cleaners remain hanging (usually neatly doubled over the hanger). Bulkier sweaters are folded and stored in one of these tidy hanging bags (jeans and tees are folded in one of these, too):

http://www.containerstore.com/.....#038;N=152

Good luck on your solution.

I have mine in a kind of cabinet part of my dresser. I find sweater storage really frustrating, though - if I stack them I can't see them or pull one out easily. The open-front ones are hard to fold and end up all wrinkled. Mo, how do you store yours like books and keep them from crumpling up?

I do not hang sweaters because they stretch or take on the shape of the hanger.

I fold up most sweaters and store them on shelves that are built into the sides of the closet. I hang up some very light cardigans, but only if I am wearing them often (so they don't have a chance to get hanger shaped marks in the shoulders).

If you absolutely insist on hanging up sweaters, I recommend getting those hanging sweater holders that are basically like little canvas shelves hanging from a hanger. It's also better to use padded hangers for sweaters and other knits because they're less likely to leave shoulder marks - heavy sweaters will still stretch out vertically though.

I have sweaters and most of my knit tops (tees and the like) folded on shelves in our closet. Some of the denser knits that don't stretch on hangers are hung up as well.

I hang the lightweightweight ones that I don't think will stretch. If I don't see them hanging in the closet I tend to forget about them! The bulkier ones go in a drawer.

I fold them on a top shelf in the closet here in FL but back home in CA I have a whole drawer devoted to them. It is deep enough that I can line them up kind of like books with the spines showing so that I see all that I have and they don't get stacked on top of each other. I agree that hanging isn't good for them and I only hang the lightest of knit cardigans and I know I really shouldn't even be doing that!

I'd love to hear where you keep your sweaters for wear during these winter months. Do you hang them in the closet or fold them? I always read that sweaters should not be hung because they will stretch out of shape. Is this true? Normally I keep mine folded in a drawer, but the bulkiness really limits how many I can fit in!
