I love this bit--it makes me want to shop everyone else's closets. Haha. There are some lovely pieces in all! Thanks for new ideas, girls.

Now I'm starting to think about organizing in more of a class of dressing. For instance, tailored skirts, collared buttondown shirts and what could be traditional business casual in one spot. Funky, trendy, fun pieces in another group. Soft, feminine flowing looks in another spot. Casual sportswear, tees, hoodies, jeans together. Date night, going out pieces in their own group. Maybe this will help me define where my style is heading as well. Or maybe I'll go crazy trying to define pieces that fall in more than one category!! I'll let you know how it goes, this could take a little while . . .

ETA: as suspected that was too difficult! I instead went from most casual to dressiest pieces within each subcategory (skirts, then dresses, etc). All the more casual stuff is right in the middle and the 'fancy' clothes are at the far edges. I hope it helps me to pair stuff up better. We'll see!

Ooh -- closet photos, my favorite! Teri, here's an earlier thread with some more. (That was from before the forum allowed direct photo postings and makes me remember what a fabulous feature that is!) http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....t-thread-1

I'm laughing looking at my closet photos because I can see at least five items that are now living at Mae's house...

I am always intrigued to peek inside others' closets! I am procrastinating (should be doing some writing this afternoon) so I am happy to oblige you with shots from mine :). I actually have two closets at my disposal: one for stuff I'm actively using (current season and currently in the rotation) and one for "run off," or off-season stuff, things I might be getting rid of but just can't part with, old shoes that I think I might need in the future, etc.

My active closet is in the first set of pics (panning from left to right). I have various knits folded up according to type (e.g., basic long-sleeved layering tees, vs. pullover sweaters, vs. sweater vests, vs. cardigans), plus jeans and my dog-walking and lounging clothes (1st pic). I hang all of my current season woven tops by color, along with my indoor jackets (2nd pic). My skirts, dresses, and scarves are also hung up (3rd pic).

My long necklaces are kept in my closet hanging on nails (4th pic). My shoes/boots are semi-organized, mostly at the bottom of my closet (5th pic). Other jewelry is kept in my mother's old jewelry box, along with some "runover space" on the shelf (6th pic). The 7th pic shows my extra closet, full of off-season clothes, etc. etc. (plus some kid-related junk).

Whew! Probably too much information, but there you go :)! I'm guessing you can tell why the "shop your closet" challenge made sense to me this fall--I have more than enough stuff!

I don't lol I'm chaotic so even when I try, I just can't keep stuff organized.
Don't have much space, anyways. I separate winter/summer. And have a special cupboard where I store most of my shoes and an electronic piano. And that's it.

I have a an old house, so closet space is at a premium. Fortunately, DH gave up his closet in our bedroom for one in a guest room (love that man), so I have two: one for summer clothes and one for winter clothes.

Everything hung is arranged by general length. (looks good but probably makes no fashion sense). Shirts go first, then blazers/jackets, skirts, dresses, then pants. Folded on the closet shelf are bulkier knits, jeans, and casual pants. Shoes go on the closet floor. Most are on a rack or just arranged in rows. Shoes I wear rarely (like really dressy shoes) stay in their boxes.

I keep finer knits folded in my dresser. I have no jewelry organization as for years I wore very little jewelry. This is changing and I need to come up with a better way of storing jewelry so I can see what I have.

Outerwear all goes into a coat closet downstairs.

:)

I go by similar items together and then length (sleeve length or dress length) and then weight of fabric. So, my tanks hang first, cotton next to cotton, satin with satin, then the short sleeved tops then long, then collared, etc. Dresses and skirts go on the other side also by length and from strapless to long sleeve. Within those boundaries I tend to group colors together when possible. I just yesterday started to play with pants tops on one side and skirt tops on the other but it's a new idea and I haven't worked it out just yet.

I'd love to see your closets.
I prefer to organize by color.

I just recently redid all my shoes and got them into clear boxes. I also added (not in pic) the color pictures of all my shoes onto the shoe boxes.

Jewlery was another thing I needed help with so I hung a towel rack for my necklaces. I also bought a multi-picture frame and made in into an earring holder. Love it
