I use a special cylindrical shaped mesh bag, purpose made for washing bras. I fold them in half, stack them in the bag, and wash them in the washer on cold, delicate. Then I hang them to dry on the shower bar. Never had any issues.

Hmm. Well April and Diana you've convinced me to try a laundry bag. I think I have the wherewithal to do that much. I have had issues with hooks coming undone and attaching to other items in the wash. See! I learned something today!

Yeah, a large reason why i use the lingerie bags is so the hooks on the bras don't damage my other clothes. I always close the hooks before washing but half the time they pop open during the cycle. Somehow with the bags they always hook onto the mesh and not onto the bras themselves.

Also the bags make it easy to find the bras after the wash to make sure they don't accidentally go in the dryer.

So mostly I use them because they make my life easier. It's just a nice bonus that they are probably better for the bras too

Beewee, I'm not that much fussier than you. I put my Simone Pereles into a mesh lingerie bag and throw them into the cold wash with regular laundry, then hang them to dry.

No problems so far, after I snipped off the little metal SP embellishments that kept getting horribly snagged on the mesh of the lingerie bags.

Heh, once my husband very helpfully put a load of my laundry from the washer into the dryer, including the mesh bags with two bras. Forunately, they came through it ok. Once I told him about not drying bras and explained how much they cost, he doesn't do that anymore. I'm fine being the only one who handles the laundry around here!

I've been washing mine by hand. I really don't have time to this which means my bras don't get washed as much as they should. Now that I learn that most of you wash in the machine I'm going to do that too. Woo Hoo! I have a pile that need to be washed right now that I've been avoiding.

I wash mine in a lingerie bag on gentle cycle, cold water and then line dry. Like Lucy, I have never damaged anything by washing on the gentle cycle. The trick is to use the zippered bags and use cold water.

Like most, I wash them in a lingerie bag on gentle cycle, then line dry. I tend to do 1-2 loads of my good clothes on gentle each week - the rest of the boy clothes in my house just get chucked in! I don't have the time or patience for hand washing, and I don't seem to wreck anything - bras or otherwise - by using the gentle cycle!

I like to use Soak, a no rinse detergent. I put them in a bucket let them soak, gently squeeze them out and air dry. As easy as laundry for me and safer given our hard water.

Wow, I thought everyone handwashed their bras! My eyes are opened.

I handwash my bras. I actually have a lot of handwash-only clothing. I don't mind doing it, because I consider these items very special. The bras are expensive, at least in my experience ($50-85), and I don't want to take any chances. Since I can get away with wearing each bra a few times before washing, I don't have to handwash too often.

I've spent up to $150 US for a European brand, Prima Donna. Not custom, just super high quality design, support, and materials, in a wide range of sizes (G cup for me). They last forever with hand washing. I really only replace them if I have a significant weight change and need a change of band size, or if the stretch/support starts to weaken - very infrequently. After I gained weight and started sizing out of store brands, I went to a bra specialty shop for a real fitting, and discovered this brand. Once I had a professional measurement, I could search around online for the brand, and have had confidence that it will fit consistently.

I'm with Mochi. Hand wash only! I find that the underwires get twisted in the machine, even on gentle. A rubbermaid basin in the kitchen sink, a drizzle of woolite, a good soak, then rinse and dry on a lingerie rack. The rinsing takes the longest, maybe 10-15 minutes tops.

Sports bras do go on n the machine, in lingerie bags. Also air dried!

When I bought my first expensive bras last year, at first I hand washed them. I got a cheap plastic salad spinner to use as a basin for hand-washing so I can spin some of the extra water out (more useful for silk shirts, since bras dry quickly regardless). But now I just do them in the washer on delicate along with my washable silk.

Same as most posters -- on delicate in the washing machine in a lingerie bag. The lady at the fancy bra store told me to use baby shampoo instead of detergent, so that's what I use and my bras are holding up well!

I do need to buy a new lingerie bag because I donated the one I was using to our winemaking project...
