I just took photos of me with the top and the plain bottom and I think I really like the outcome. I look quite proportionate (seeing myself in photos actually helps me check everything objectively). I'll still try the ruffles, but I think I'm pretty settled!

Yep, I say you will be fine with plain, black bottom, probably the simpler the better, depending on your taste.

hmmm... I thought of the abstract as more of a leaf or peapod pattern and thus organic to go with the ruffles... i suppose part of this questions depends on how eclectic you like to dress in general. (for me that is quite eclectic so that makes crazy mixes more acceptable to my eye) A simple black tie side bottom would look great and be less eclectic looking.
I think that the Brazilian slip would be a great option. I don't think the ruffled bottom works with the architextural lines of the top. Also, I think mix and matching bikini tops and bottoms are a great idea!

Thanks, Sarah! I believe so, too.

Suz, do you think the plain bottom (no ruffles) would work better?

It seems like mixing&matching is actually a trend these days. It's no wonder given how hard it is to find a bikini where both pieces fit perfectly.

I guess my case would be a bit like #2 but inverted? It's hard for me to decide whether it looks good or not since I dislike that top on the model (and probably on its own).
I think in theory they can work...but somehow I am not sure about a ruffled one with this patterned top. Still, if there are returns, you could try it out to see. After all, it is not easy to find a well fitting top that you like so it's hard to pass that up.

I would say go for it. There is plenty of black on the top to work with the black bottoms.
I can't believe what I'm going to say: I found a well-fitting bikini, in my own country and at a reasonable price. It also looks good on me. It's snug at the back so that the halter only works as a nice detail but is not really necessary (thus no pains at the nape). You can actually tie the halter around the band so that it becomes a strapless top! T

he downfall is, they didn't have the bottom piece you see on the model, but #2. Only.

I'm not a fan of the thick waist-band because I already have a set with a bottom like that and I hate how it looks on me. It makes my body look shorter, it's big at the waist and, just, no. Nevertheless, I tried it on and their smallest size was still too big. It is not possible to get the bottom piece you see on the model in the store and I don't dare buy online, especially since the 36 I tried was big on me.

So, I'm looking for black bottoms. So far I got a brazilian slip (something like this http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_l8RN.....bottom.bmp). I'm not sure that it will be in my comfort zone since I've never been that 'cheeky' but it does flatter my rear better than more covering bottoms I've tried (go figure) and I am interested in looking, ehem, bigger in the bottom area so that I look smaller on top. I like that it's less skimpy at the front so that my hips look wider. And I might not be able to pull this off in five years, so why not do it now, right?

I also want to try #3 on (in store). The ruffles might look a bit more retro and make my hips look even wider. It's still skimpy at the back though!

Do you think this mix&match will work? I think it does, but just in case. Also, maybe I could try colored bottoms or just... no?

In case anyone is interested (I think this might only work for Europeans), the bikini is from Change of Scandinavia. On the website they show a lot more of styles than what they have in Barcelona's stores.
