Thanks Antje! Everything you said is 100% correct. Tried on a pencil skirt recently and they finally look good on me.

Hi Plushpengiun, I'm an hourglass with smallish chest as well. I think we have others on the forum, too. And just like you, I used to consider myself a pear (until I met Angie!) I mostly go by the hourglass recommendations now. I find wrap style tops and dresses very flattering for our shape, as well as tops with v-necks, deeper crew necks, and/or with ruching or ruffles. I go for cuts that accentuate the waist while drawing attention away from the mid section and not visually shrinking the chest. If you have strong shoulders, you want to avoid boat necks and those fluttery cap sleeves. For bottoms, avoid pleats in skirts or pants. Bootcuts look good on pretty much everyone, and definitely on hourglasses. Skinnies work well with longer tops (tunics or short dresses). Hope this helps a bit.

Are you comfortable posting a picture? That would really help.

There have been instances on this forum when women thought they had a certain body type but they were actually a little off. You’ll therefore get a more effective response if we can see your silhouette.

I just realized minutes ago, that I'm actually an hourglass. This is news to me, because I was a pear for years and years when I was a little heavier. My shoulders are equal to my hips now, and I have a very defined waist. I still look a tiny bit bottom heavy though, because of my AA bust. The obvious answer is to use the lower body rules for an hourglass and then just mix in some rules for a small bust, but I don't really think that will work. Which rules for an hourglass apply to me and which don't?
