I have done short rubber boots in sort of a Chelsea style, not upscale at all, that I wear if it’s raining significantly and carry shoes in my tote bag. I don’t have to hit a high fashion or formal bar for getting from car to building.
If I really had to hike several blocks in heavy rain and had a more formal or on- trend workplace, I’d need tall boots in a better brand and style.

I also think there s dearth if true knee- length or just below knee trench coats and raincoats. So many are mid- thigh.

Waterproof dressy footwear by brands like Aquatalia are excellent. Also, it's not so bad bringing extra shoes on the commute, and changing into them at work. It's a good habit in my opinion.

I did always have a rain outfit for work, and wore my rain boots all day... although I admit the squeaking on tile floor would bug me... the rain boots were pretty special tho. Not simply wellies. Designer things, extremely slim fit.

It will depend on how much it rains and how long I'll have to walk. If it rains just a little and I'll be out just a few moments, I don't care much--just wear a (rain)coat/jacket and use an umbrella. However, if it's raining cats and dogs and I have to spend more than a few moments walking or waiting in the rain, I'll also wear nice rain boots--and bring a pair of shoes, because (1) I don't feel comfortable in wet shoes, and (2) I don't want to ruin my smart shoes.

Every time it rains, I find myself changing my outfit so that it fits the shoes I have to wear in the rain. Lately, I can't sub out my heels or flats and it is a pain to bring a second pair of shoes with me for my commute. I also feel uncomfortable having to change my shoes at work. What do you guys do in this situation?
