This type of thing has happened to me all the time on several fronts. Distract yourself when it is in your head. Also, it always helped me to think that there was nothing that I could do or plan without info. So everything was normal right now: today. Finally, this is the best place on earth to have something happen. Tell yourself you are grateful for that. Wishing you the best !!!!!!

I'm another one with dense tissue and my doctor jokes that I'm a "cyst-maker" so I totally understand. Each year I go through this and part of me says "oh, it's just the same old call back," and another part of me is steeling myself for bad news. It will be ok. I'm sending good vibes that all is fine!

I also have dense breasts, and I've started paying the extra $100 to get 3-D mammograms. When I used to get regular mammograms, I'd always get called back. I've never been called back after a 3-D mammogram.

I will be thinking about you. I know this is hard. I have done it several times. One thing to remember though the statistics are high on being called back. There was actually a story here the other night that there are more call backs in October due to the fact that it is breast cancer awareness month. Something to think about.

Please keep us posted.

Chouette22 - You know, men can be clueless at times. My husband is the same way and sometimes I just want him to listen and not say anything. I guess your hubby was trying to reassure you and stay positive, just like mine. Men aren't emotional like we are and mine is more analytical minded.

Glory, Catseye, Ledonna, Jane, Cerinda - Thanks for your inputs and you ladies ROCK!! I'm staying positive and we'll see what happens on Monday. I'll be in touch.

Most likely nothing. Too bad they cannot get you in sooner to reassure you. Part of the reason why some experts don't recommend starting until 50.

Try not to worry. Easily said but not done , I know. I had a callback 2 years ago and they told me the vast majority of callbacks ended up being nothing. The waiting is very difficult and here where I am the wait times are quite long. There are no mammograms, ultrasound and needle biopsy same time, never mind same month!
Please let us know how things work out. Fingers crossed it will be nothing.

As Deborah said, the ladies have it covered. I just wanted to add my very recent story (3 weeks ago). New doctor, yearly check-up, breast exam, she feels a lump and her reaction? "I would definitely have this lump biopsied!" I have a lot of cysts, and I have been called back after mammograms several times too, but never had a doctor felt a definite lump during the initial exam. I then said, shouldn't we go the regular course: mammogram, ultrasound and THEN a biopsy if needed? Yes, yes, of course, but... she said. It completely freaked me out. Out of the doctor's office, right on the parking lot, I was able to make an appt for both mammogram and ultrasound for 5 days later (thank goodness we don't have to wait for weeks or months for something like this!!).

I was pretty certain that my life had arrived at a turning point. And just like you, I saw breast-cancer stories everywhere. I picked up two magazines at the gym and there were THREE stories: one ended deadly, the other two were still in treatment. Talk about major stress.

In the end, my lump was just another cyst and I walked out of the hospital with what felt like a new lease on life and I was so incredibly grateful. I will definitely not hold back when I see my doctor again (if I decide to stay with her) and let her know to keep her reactions in check a little bit.

And I don't know how you feel about this, but my husband's reaction really upset me. He wanted to sound optimistic and said: "Oh don't worry, everything will be fine." I couldn't take that. To me it was like he wasn't taking my fear seriously and didn't really want to deal with it. We had a long conversation about it.

Viva, Style Fan, UmaLila, Aquamarine, Angie, Firecracker, Deborah, and Helen11 - Darn the dense tissue breast!! And you are right, waiting is the hardest part.

Firecracker - I suppose you are right if they found something bigger or clearer, and if they didn't rush the tests, then that might be a good sign.

I've had some re-dos from time to time. About a decade or so ago, I had a couple of biopsies for what turned out to be cysts. My experience back then was that they had me come back right away to check things out. It wasn't anything about what would work with my schedule; they just told me, in no uncertain terms, to be there tomorrow at X time. I was very stressed about that, and fortunately, it turned out to be benign cysts. So after that, when I've had to come back for a second mammogram or something, and it's not the next day, I don't get too stressed. I figure if they are willing to schedule it a week or more out, that's a good indicator they are mainly being cautious and just wanting a second look. (Tina's experience bears out this thinking; her medical team was clearly moving with a sense of urgency.)

Hope all goes well for you!

I've had callbacks before. With dense breast tissue, I almost expect it now but it's still very, very stressful. So, I now go to the hospital directly for my mammogram, and wait for the result. That way, I can have another mammogram right away if needed.

I'm glad your appointment got moved up. The anticipation of medical tests is always worse than the actual test, I've found. Good luck and keep us posted.

I am very sorry to hear this, but hopefully it's nothing more than bad images. As someone who went through two different cancers I can imagine how you feel but try to keep yourself busy till you know and I am sending positive thoughts.

JAileen - I don't like mistakes at our expense!! :)

Laura - Thanks for that. My MIL was diagnosed with cancer about 15 years ago and was in remission through radiation. The cancer came back just recently and she got a double mastectomy. Luckily, she's doing great now, so that gives me hope.

Ugh, that's no fun. I've had to get biopsies twice and both times it's turned out to be nothing abnormal. I agree with annagybe, since they're asking you back for another ultrasound and not straight to a biopsy, they probably just didn't get clear enough pictures and are doing their due diligence.

Tina's story is illustrative, though, that if caught early breast cancer has something like a 99% survival rate these days. My mom had breast cancer when I was in high school, and then again two years ago in the other breast, and the difference in treatment options and length was like night and day.

RobinF - Now that I think of the "C" word, it keeps popping up everywhere. Suddenly I keep hearing stuff on TV, a co-workers friend has just passed away from breast cancer, and my aunt just had a health scare. What the heck! I'll try to NOT think about it and just keep myself busy until Monday.
