If a skirt is too loose around waist and hips it will spin. If it fits my hips but is loose on waist it will go upwards. The only pieces that stay put are those a bit loose on hips but perfectly tight on waist (that means tailored on demand). Sometimes a belt helps, but not always

I get this problem when skirts are too big in the waist for me--common because most skirts that fit my hips are too big for my waist. Taking in the waist usually fixes the problem.

This happens to me even with high waisted skirts that fit snugly. Underthings with a suede texture help sometimes. Wearing nylon slips, slippery linings in the skirt, and/or hose exacerbate the problem.

@ Andrea; you're super observant - this is super true for me - any skirt that doesn't have a dedicated waistband is super rolly polly.

Like Claire, nearly every skirt I own (such as my beloved Halogen pencils) that does not have a waist band tends to do this to me. I am always running and twisting when I am wearing pencils so I suspect that it the cause. But it's VERY annoying.

Off I go to read Angie's post! Thanks for bringing this up, Lyn.

Angie is right on.

I realize that my WORST culprit was an A line with a low waist from Old Navy.

The ones that don't shift do fit higher on my waist.

They could be too big or too small or just not fthe right fit. If any skirt does this to me, I ditch it, TBH. Life is too short to be hitching my wiastband all the time.

What Sylvie said. I've had the problem a lot with lower quality items and with ones that are too big. Not so much with better fitting or better makes.

I've found this is just a matter of fit/quality/finding the right skirt. My "nice" skirts/jeans always stay in place. My less expensive ones (sadly) twist around.

@ Celt - I have a slump due to my scoliosis, but I'm not sure if my hips are even! Maybe I should measure...

@ Diana - OH! I do carry a side-bag; and maybe that is why it rotates! I will see what I can do for hat to help; although it does carry all the tools of my temporary neurology trade, so we'll see! I can see myself forgetting to unpin. (Tee hee)

@ Carole - Maybe; it is the smallest size it comes in, and I am fond of it.

I have this problem all the time. I think it's exacerbated by two things. First, I often carry a shoulder bag on one side that rubs against the skirt, plus I'm pretty sure always carrying the bag makes my gait a little lopsided. The other thing that affects this is that because i am pear shaped my skirts are often tighter at the hips than the waist so they sometimes ride up, which makes them overall looser and more prone to rotating because of the bag or the weird gait or whatever.

Sometimes tucking helps because it adds some friction which can prevent some of the rotating. I've also been known to safety pin particularly bad offenders to my slip, tucked shirt, or tights (if it's tights though, you have to remember to unpin before you go to the bathroom!)

I have that problem with skirts and I think it is because my one hip is an inch higher than the other based on my scoliosis.

I have a weird question.

I always fine at the end of the day, the back of my pencil skirt has decided to migrate towards the front, sometimes even doing a full 360 (with back to front at lunch time).

I am guessing this has something to do with the way I walk? Does any one have any ideas to stop this? I have been able to manage with a skinny belt, but it's sort of bizzare.

Now when I see people with the backvent in front of their legs, I wonder if I should say something!

Cheers,
Lyn
