I usually think things "work" when I don't think about them all day -- if I'm continuously fussing because there's red spots on my face, then I'm more likely to change up products before the "three weeks" mark.

I second the recommendation for the La Roche-Posay Toleriane range. I have very sensitive, highly allergic skin. I wash my face every morning with La Roche-Posay Toleriane Dermo-Nettoyant and follow up with Ole Henrikson Truth Creme Advanced Hydration. In the evening, I use Nude Perfect Cleansing Oil Face and Eyes. The La Roche-Posay range, which is a famous French brand, is readily available in Canada at Shoppers Drug Mart. The other products I buy online at Sephora.

Thistle, I suggest you contact the cosmetics manager at Nordstrom and discuss your issues. They should be able to point you in the right direction and send you samples to try before you purchase.

Usually I start a regime for a specific issue (mine is always to fix blah and bland looking skin), when I'm on the right stuff, My face looks fabulous. glowing, even toned and just *right*. Right now, I need to get a dose of Origins because my skin seems blaaaaah, but because it's summertime here, I try not to spend loads of money on corrective treatments because I'm in and out of the sun on a regular, and I can't accurately judge my skin when I'm constantly browning it. It's often a waste of money.

BB Cream is a beauty balm that replaces a bunch of items with one item. It gives the face a nice smooth fisnish. Can be worn alone or under foundation.

What is BB cream? I'm so out of the loop.

Fwiw I have very sensitive skin and use the La Roche Posay line called Toleraine recommended by my dermatologist. I only use the facial moisturizer but I know there's a whole line. It's for very sensitive skin and IMHO works great. Not sure what your goal in switching was. Good luck.

Eta it is sold on Amazon but you get 10% off first order directly from them. More info here
http://www.laroche-posay.us/collection-toleriane

The specific moisturizer I use:
http://www.laroche-posay.us/to.....t_overview

This product has been life changing for me. It's perfect.

Good luck and keep us posted. And please inform this expat what a BB cream is bc I see it on product labels but haven't a clue.

Yeah I think Retin-A is actually a different formula than retinol and works better. Some retinols work okay, but not all (I used to have a Retin-A prescription but not anymore).

The only thing that's ever made a big difference in my skin is retin-a. There was a big difference in six weeks. But Thistle, what do you want this regimen to do for you? In the photos I've seen you appear to have perfect, smooth, dewy skin.

The only thing I noticed made a difference over time on my skin were products with retinol. (and they had to have enough of it and be light protected). Other products have helped with surface texture due to exfoliating or moisturizing effects -- but for me they never quite reached the same fresh, dewy and glowing effect I got after I worked out hard, sweated a lot, and took a shower.

Fresh, dewy look to the skin. But a good idea to start out with a facial.

I've found it takes my skin about 3 weeks or so to show a real difference when I start something new. It's gradual, but one day you'll look in the mirror and think, wow! I also find that if I let myself run out of a particular product by mistake, my skin lets me know in a big way within a week or two.

If you go to the beautypedia at Paula's Choice, online, there are reviews and explanations for whether products can or cannot live up to their claims. I think oil of Olay products usually fare well.

Not sure if this off topic or not as I wear my skin every day . . .

After reading about many of you fab ladies' skin care programs, I decided to start using a serum in the morning and most evenings (the nights I don't fall asleep first!), and a BB cream in the morning. Previously, I had just used a moisturizer in the morning.

How does one know if they are working? How does one know if they should upgrade their products? (I went with Oil of Olay products as I could get them easily through Amazon, and they had versions for sensitive skin. I have allergies to a lot of dyes and fragrances used in cosmetics).
