Thousands have been killed, hundreds of thousands have been forced from their homes. Just before the kidnappings, 71 were killed in bombings in the capital, with a reported 64 killed in the north of the country on the same day. While I am as outraged as anyone else over these kidnappings, I do find it sad and almost shocking that most people are so immune to the horrors of war (especially in Africa) that almost no one bats an eye about everything that preceeded this. Few news outlets so much as mentioned the atrocities happening in Nigeria and the corruption of the government there, and even fewer in the US.
