I'm still on the hunt for jeans that actually fit me properly. I think relaxed skinny are the closest to a flattering fit, but struggling to find the right size. It doesn't seem to matter where I shop, I'm usually find the smaller size is too tight, the next size up is too loose... Blurgh. I prefer longer, looser tops with slim fitting trousers though.

Seems like a lot of people are preferring looser tops or always preferred them. So interesting how the eye shifts and what seemed like a good look a couple years ago feels stale now.

Firecracker- love the outfits you posted, especially the top in number 1.

dianthus-dark red skinnies sound great! I've been looking for a pair but haven't been able to find the right one.

Thanks for posting this question Suja. It made me realize that I hadn't been wearing the deep red skinny jeans/pants I bought this fall when we were all made for dark red.

A few years ago, I wore my skinny jeans with tall boots and sweaters almost always. Then I started wearing them with booties a year or two ago. I had a bit of an epiphany this year and realized that I preferred to wear them with a taller heavier boot for balance. Without a bit of visual weight in the lower leg area, I feel a bit too much ice cream cone effect is going on.

After reading this post, I got out the red jeans and wore them with a cream BR sweater and tall boots. It was a good choice for -30 with the windchill.

I don't think I have ever worn fitted tops with skinnies and my skinnies have never been overly skinny.

Like Sveta, I have always worn my skinnies with longer, looser tops. They are now more like boyfriends on me so I am rolling them with my booties and leather sneakers with my more fitted shirts.

I have never worn skinnies with fitted or tailored tops - always with longer (tunic length) and roomier tops to counter the slim bottom part and balancing out the hips. This was the most proportional look for me.
Now when I lost some weight I am more comfortable wearing skinnies with normal length tops but still prefer them in the fluid fit rather than tailored or fitted. Proportions just look much better this way and IMO this makes wearer look slimmer compared to fitted top with skinnies.
I wear skinnies with all kinds of footwear: tucked into tall boots, rolled up or down over booties, with pumps and flats like oxfords or loafers...

Hmm, I too am getting away from the tailored top with skinnies...it does feel too body-con and a little dated. I've been trying to wear fluid-fit pullovers with skinnies instead. Looks like our minds are thinking the same thing. :) I do still tuck my skinnies into boots.

I'm wearing mostly straight skinnies, not super skinnies, and I generally wear with a fluid top. I worry more about covering the front then the back. For work, I wear with a blazer.

skinnies with maxi sweaters, long cardies, oversized jackets, ponchos/capes/wraps. very 80s without the uber shoulder pads. used to wear them with knee high high heeled boots. now prefer them with flat knee highs or slip on sneaks. or cuffed with booties.

now trying to source a flat black boot with an almond toe...surprisingly hard to find. or a mildly pointy flat bootie that fits CLOSE to the ankle. if you have any ideas...

I'm with you, Suja. I'm just not feeling the more body-con look on top along with skinnies on the bottom. I like more volume on top these days. I'm still wearing tall boots over skinnies, perhaps even more, now that I have two pairs of tall boots I love to pieces. Here are some recent favorites.

I'm going the same direction except I still love skinnies tucked into mid-calf or tall boots. We have 9 months of damp weather so tucking into boots is too practical for me to give up. But I'm finding myself not liking the look of a body con top over skinnies.

I took my three pairs of skinnies to the consignment store, and came home with two pairs of looser skinnies (one is two sizes up). I still love the silhouette, but I needed more ease to be truly comfortable. I am so glad it's no longer necessary to get the thigh super-fitted, as that always forced me into a smaller size. Hooray for slouchy fits, all around.

In late Summer, I culled the only truly body-con sweater I had, too. It was in good shape so it also went to the consignment store. I don't mind a tailored fit, but I've given up tight on both top and bottom for good, I hope!

Much looser tops for sure. I still wear them under tall boots however. Today I am also wearing a blazer. The proportions (on me, with my current shape) are more top-heavy than this former pear is used to, but the thighs I used to want to hide look slimmer too, so... I'm adjusting. I've always preferred to limit body con to one half only so the current looser tops suit me fine.

I love them tucked into boots or with booties., and am going less body con on top this season.. For a boot lover who keeps adding boots each season, these are an important silhouette...

I am a cautious wearer of skinnies and always have been. I have never felt they were my best look but have found ways to make them work for me. I have always worn skinnies with a longer top, sweater or jacket, but with not too much volume, or I look too large. I guess a fluid fit is best although I wear larger parkas and driving coats too. I like them with boots, either ankle or tall, and not with sneakers or heels on me.

As it is almost summer I won't wear mine much for the next wee while but will pull them out again in autumn. I love wearing them to weekend sports games with waterproof boots and a coat.

I still like them a lot of other people. I love this stage for jeans when I see people wearing skinnies, straight, bootcut, flare, boyfriend, coloured, white, leather, coated, dungarees etc.....Such a great range, there is a style for everyone and they all are fashionable!

I haven't worn my tall boots in a long time, actually. Thanks for remind me, maybe I should purge them, though that would emotinally be hard as they are DUO and the only tall boot to ever fit my generous calves.

I wear my skinnies with tunic tops that cover my bum. I don't own many sweaters and those I do are not long enough to wear with skinnies.

I'm still wearing them with tall boots. In fact, it's more that I have to wear (or will have to wear) tall boots because of the weather, so skinnies are the practical pants to choose. And I've always been more of a volume on top person, when I wear skinnies.

I'm headed in the same direction, Suja. I'm wearing my skinnies with more fluid tops, and I've taken to rolling them when I wear them with short boots. I used to just stuff them into short boots, but this past year I've acquired two pairs of 'relaxed' skinnies, which look cute rolled. (My skinnier skinnies still get stuffed into the short boots, but I don't seem to be wearing them as often as I used to).

I almost never wear tall boots with skinnies tucked in anymore. The odd time I wear tall boots, it's with a skirt. I'm not sure why. I think I have tall boot fatigue.

In the last couple years, I used to wear my skinnies with tailored essential sweaters (turtlenecks or v-necks for me) and tall boots. This year, I am preferring skinnies with longer, more roomy pullovers. Sometimes with tall boots but equally with short boots and the skinnies rolled up.

The skinnies with a tailored pullover is feeling a little too bodycon for me these days. I wore it the other day and just didn't feel great, even with skinnies that are not the sausage-casing type. I'm thinking of retiring the skinnies with a tailored sweater look from my range of silhouettes.

How are you wearing your skinnies these days?
