I'm skipping a belt most of the time, since I'm usually aiming for a casual look. When I do wear one, I like one that is of medium or large width. Not a skinny belt fan, since they look too preppy on me.

I've tried belting over sweaters, but it looks horrid. The fabric gets all bunched up, and the belt moves all over the place. So I gave up on that a long time ago.

Just utilitarian. On the plus side, I so love belts and so wearied of shopping for them that I put a lot of money into lessons and equipment to make my own. It's not cheaper, but it brings me a lot of joy and satisfaction.

Unless they are extremely high-waisted, I need a belt to hold my pants/jeans up. I am long waisted so I generally wear belts that match or are low contrast with my pants. I still have obi and the like from the ‘80s but don’t really have a dress to wear under them. I rarely wear out clothing, but I tend to trash belts.

since I started semi/half tucking (ie since I've been on YLF) I've been belting most days, except on some very high waisted jeans. I have one long sweater that I tried with leggings and a belt this year, I liked the look, but haven't repeated it

i have a short thick waist and i've been loving belting at the waist. i got the heron preston belt and have worn it over a drapey cardi, with jeans in belt loops, and am about to try it with a form fitting dress to take it down a notch.

i've also been on a belt buying binge as i tend to wear the same ones over and over and keep them for at least 10 years.

I have a very utilitarian approach to belts these days: I really only wear my Hipsi, and only with jeans, to keep them on. However, I was just out to dinner recently and a woman had on mid-rise jeans with a standout belt (as if from Gryffin's collection) and I loved the look. It was a bit of a throwback and made me wonder if I still have my one studded belt with the big buckle. I'd kind of like to wear it again.
I wish I could do the belted jacket/sweater look but it's terrible on my shape.

I'm with Diana, only for too loose pants. I just find them fussy and uncomfortable. And I don't need to add clutter to my very short waist.
"They" always say to use belts to showcase curves, but the belt itself adds at least an inch of extra volume-hence reducing the actual curve!

I’m not, for the most part. Just occasionally to hold up certain pants that need it. I purged a whole bunch of belts when I moved.
In the summer I might occasionally wear a skinny belt loosely hip-slung over a sack dress occasionally but that’s about it. I never wear them at my natural waist - it’s so high and short that I think belts look ridiculous there, in addition to being uncomfortably rib-squishing when I sit.

Unfortunately I am with those others with a thick waist and belts do nothing at all for me, and are uncomfortable besides. I do have some thin ones that I use to actually hold up some of my pants that want to fall down but that is about it.

I wear an Invisible Belt to hold up my pants and that’s it. With higher rises and a thick waist I look awful - like some mutant that’s all legs with a waist that’s right under her chest. I’ve given most of my belts away and the few that I kept are just hanging in my closet.

When high rises came in, I brought my belts to the cobbler and had extra holes punched so I could still wear them. I wear belts in bottoms when I tuck tops. I have used a belt over my puffer to reign in the volume, and I will use a belt, instead of the self tie, with my trench coat. I don't belt without belt loops, since the belt will migrate upwards towards my rib cage.

I also mostly wear belts with jeans through the loops to hold them up. When I can, I like to wear belts that match my tops, especially when tucking. It helps me look less short waisted..

I tried belting over cardigans and blazers but it doesn’t work on me- maybe too much boob and hip, so things get very bunchy. So I usually stick to belt loops or obi belt over dress.

I found a curly brown faux fur belt this winter and loved the idea, but it added SO much bulk at the waist, it did not work out.

I love belts! I mostly wear mine in jeans or trousers, through the loops. Whether mid-rise or high rise. (I had to get a few new belts to make this work.) But I'll also belt dresses etc around the waist -- much less often because it can be uncomfortable for me.

I rarely like self belts -- but I have a few that work well. I love a belted trench coat.

Hip belts can also work but I don't happen to have one now.

Still wearing mid-rise jeans with belts through the loops, sometimes purely to keep the jeans up, sometimes to give interest to a look. Like taylor, I have no intention of giving my mid rises or hip belts up. I'm sure they will cycle back around at some point, anyway.

I like the look of high rise pants, but I don't like the feeling of belts way up there around my waist.

I have lots of belts both skinny and wide , I refuse to give them up just because the high rise look is in . I think they can actually be worn on certain high rise pants and look fabulous too.

If my pants have belt loops, I like a belt through them since I front-tuck my tops and the empty loops showing bothers me. Some dresses get belted, it adds interest to them. And I have a couple of jumpsuits with nipped in waistlines that I like to cover with an interesting belt. I like the look of a belted cardigan, blazer, or coat but don't think to try it out. It does seem like a lot of bulk!

I have pretty much never worn belts through the loops because I can't handle fussing with all that hardware on every trip to the ladies'.

The best era for me regarding belts was when they were worn low, around the hips, outside of clothing. I have narrow hips (but no waist to speak of) so this look worked. Belts meant for waist definition -- not so much.

I wear them with jeans - both high and mid rise. I have four (black with eyelets, black plain, white with stars, tan). My jeans have always tended to slide down as they day goes on - I think that because my thighs and calves are muscular they pull them down and often the waist is slightly loose. An alteration might fit that......

April - belts are really my only changable accessory. Mostly I wear belts through belt loops. Embellished typically. I do have a favorite black webbing belt for jeans. The other is a low hip belt. I wear this with tunics and dresses - alone or with a topper. Since most of my clothing is black the leather vanishes and the low v the buckle creates gives me a very elongate torso and the appearance of a narrow curvy waist on my slim rectangular self. I will take that belt with me into my coffin. It's my favorite piece ever and the hardest working!!

I often wear belts on top of dresses and tops, and often with an open topper.

I somehow feel restricted by belted cardigans and blazers (in particular when I know I will have to be sitting for several hours), so I seldom wear that look.

My belts are medium-sized, and I like them to be slightly curvy or at least kind of soft. Braided belts, for instance, or stretchy fabric belts are generally able to follow the curvy lines of my body.

When wearing a belt on top of a relatively short top (and also if the outfit includes a relatively short open topper), I prefer my belt to be in the same colour as the top. However, if the outfit includes either a dress, another column of colour or a longer open topper, I feel OK wearing a belt in a contrasting colour.

Either utilitarian through-the-loops, or an obi belt over dresses. I should try the obi over some longer tops. I've done a belt over a long cardigan, but haven't ever tried it over a blazer... that just seems like a lot of bulk to corral under a belt!
