Okay compared to many. Hugs to everyone and on one level or another we are all impacted.
Big thank you to all you are continuing to work to keep things going across the country.
My husband works from home. He is very worried about the ramifications of the shut down loss of jobs and the economy. This makes him quiet and glum.
I'm worried about my daughter who is in NYC and has been sick with symptoms but no testing. The good news is that she appears to be feeling better and I'm thankful for that. My two sons seem to be ok, however the one in CT is feeling emotionally fragile, I can tell when I talk to him.
I'm keeping busy in the house and trying to organize. I love to walk,( it does wonders for my sciatica), and listen to podcasts. Everything is blooming here and despite my horrid seasonal allergies I am loving watching the daffodils bloom.

Sorry to have posted and abandoned my own thread - work has gotten insanely busy, and their expectations of me have not lessened since I've always worked from home. But juggling two little kids, cooking, cleaning, on top of more work means very little down time and it is starting to get to me...

My thoughts are with all of you who are feeling the pressures and stresses right now. Being away from family and friends is especially difficult, (and in some cases, being with family can also be challenging!) Financial and health worries are very, very scary. Sending you all big, big hugs, xx

Thanks NemosMum for the thread.

Big hug to those with sick or older family members far away - that is super hard.

We go into lockdown tonight. We are working out the finer details of what that means for our work as we are very niche (design, certification, repair, manufacture for general aviation work including aero medical, rescue and agricultural which are considered essential). Essentially all who can work remotely are doing so and we will have a skeleton crew operating - but at what level is the question.

My 18 year old is home from university on a different island - phew. He has been having a ball down there so we will see how he adjusts.

Our government has been doing a great job - we have a leader who is fantastic in a crisis and her communication style is clear, factual, calming and the other experts have been excellent as well, as have the opposition leaders. We are pulling together. We are lucky that NZ is a small isolated country and so far cases have been mild with 150 cases, 6 requiring hospital care, no ICU and no deaths. It will get worse but I hope by not too much.

I am very sad for my Dad in isolation alone and we will do his shopping but can't go inside and must observe 2 m distancing. Luckily he had a busy day fishing on Saturday and had a blast. He will be fine but it is sad.

People mentioning that social media is negative - do you keep a "feed" of all your friends going? I don't. I only choose to follow the people and businesses that post things I actually don't mind seeing on a daily basis. Turning off the "follow" feature even for many family members has made it much nicer to open my FB page in the morning. And then I just go direct to their FB page once in a while if I want to check in on them or comment on something that I choose. I have almost no negative posts on my feed. Then again, I choose not to post political or similar topics myself.

Sending ((((hugs)))) to all of you in this new world we find ourselves in. These are very strange days indeed.

I'm holding up well, more or less. I've had to make a few difficult decisions lately (not getting my furbaby for visitation, removing my rings that hold so much meaning), so I've had some moments of absolute dejection. Thank heaven for all the wonderful people who live in my phone, since physical 12 step meetings have been cancelled. There is a group of local folks in recovery who are going to get me included in their online zoom meetings, so that's a wonderful thing too.

I'm pretty much expecting the worst (that I catch it and require a ventilator) while simultaneously hoping for the best (that I am spared any serious complications from covid-19) since I have a lung condition already. I also work at a grocery store, so it's just a matter of time before my hands crack from all the handwashing and sanitizing. If that's the worst that happens, I'll call myself lucky. People have been both unbearably ugly and tear-jerkingly appreciative of us grocery store employees who have been overworked for the past 2 weeks, so work is an emotional rollercoaster. Work is also my only live contact with other human beings, which is just bleach because it leaves me feeling so alone. Again, thank heaven for the beautiful people who live in my phone.

I was able to get a couple of projects done in my RV, and I obtained a bunch of books (both physical and e-books) to give me something to do besides spend money I don't have on shoes and things that I can't even wear right now because we have closed down all the things. And this site continues to be a positive part of my day, from the normalcy of the style posts to the genuine caring and support exhibited here.

Stay safe, all of you, because I need you in my life!

Thanks for asking, nm. I’m doing okay, but have cut my consumption of news way down. I don’t watch TV, but like to listen to talk radio (CBC) as I go about my daily chores. Now I’m tuning in for an hour in the am and an hour in the pm.

I had a cry over cancelling my bucket list vacation to the UK and the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May, and miss working out at the gym dreadfully. On the other hand, I’m supper busy trying to help other folks keep it together. My extroverted 83 yo mother is not dealing well with the social isolation, my 20 something sons are stressed about employment and school situations, and DH was feeling at loose ends without his social activities - (but a ‘honey do’ list took care of that for the next couple of weeks ). I worry about my 85yo dad in Seattle and his wife, as well as my brothers and their families in the US, too. Lastly, I don’t want to get sick myself. I have an autoimmune condition and this virus would be a tough one for me to combat.

I wish I could give a virtual hug to all of you who are struggling with worrisome situations with either their own health or the health and well-being of loved ones. So tough to be dealing with that right now. I appreciate this thread and the sharing of circumstances and states of mind, which makes this community all the more real and dear.

My DH and I are fine and staying at home almost all the time. We are in a hard hit area of our state. I worry more about my elderly parents who are in a retirement home a couple thousand miles away. They are in different sections, with Dad requiring more care, and Mom is not allowed to visit him anymore. He has dementia and several serious conditions, while Mom is on oxygen routinely. Of course the facility is on lockdown, which it should be, but it's rough being so far away and their only child. I am thankful that my mother does email and phone calls and says they are both ok so far. I am concerned for the wonderful people that work there as they were understaffed even before all this happened. Just wrote my father a paper letter today and hoping it gets to him.

I am trying to stay hopeful, stay in touch with people, and practice a lot of self-care. Spring has sprung here, and there is breathtaking beauty everywhere outside. My daily walk keeps me sane.

Thank you so much for asking. It is all strange.

DS left school on Friday with 48 hours notice. He is in his last year and did his mocks recently. His grades will be based on the mocks, so hopefully all will go well.

DH is struggling and feels it all very deeply.

My dear mum is doing her bit and sticking to the rules. We’ve had some tough conversations about where she would like to die and other practical things.

Mum lives in a village with 670 people. My dear friend from school father died from the virus earlier in the week. So it’s real.

But silver linings, I’m working from home now but it is actually quite sweet because I sit at my late father’s desk and chair that he and my great grandpa used. My job is secure but in property in London where retail and restaurants are now utterly closed. We are giving out massive rent concessions.

Thinking of everyone and sending prayers and love and positive thoughts to the YLF family.

Thanks for asking, and I’m glad to see most people here are doing ok!

As for me, I alternate between meh/ok and not good, with occasional periods of an hour or more when I’m doing something so immersive I forget all about coronavirus and the challenges of the day. Mostly that means when I’m out taking photos — the activity that makes me forget about time and even forget to eat.

One of my stepsons has bipolar disorder and is having a manic episode right now (yes, horrible timing), and his wife was at her wits end, so upon his doctor’s recommendation, we are letting him stay with us for a week while he gets his meds sorted out again and hopefully can move back home. It’s an additional pressure on our food, cleaning, and routines, as well as sometimes emotionally challenging.
I’m still reeling from losing one of my best friends to cancer last month, so I’m struggling to keep depression and anxiety at bay. And my husband’s main business, like so many others, has pretty much disintegrated overnight (their main client is a hotel chain).
We are lucky to have resources and each other, so I’m really trying to keep this all in perspective, but on top of it all, I’m worried about getting sick.
Just keeping it real. I try to stay positive but it’s really tough. I’m limiting my news intake, meditating daily, and working out daily as well, getting outdoor activity in as much as I can.

Wishing all of you well! Hugs all around!

Thanks, firecracker - a tumor right now would have been extra terrifying. But cysts and other benign breast lumps run in my family so I wasn't too terribly worried. I'm just glad I don't need any more follow up right now!

Danni - have you checked if your PT office is doing online sessions? The place I went to is, but it's a large place with many locations so it may depend on the size of the practice.

DH is working from home as he supports a lot of critical industries; power plants, waste water treatment plants, food packaging plants, pharmaceuticals (Sanofi Pasteur is one of his customers) etc. he is facetiming, teleconferencing, etc at all hours to keep the industries going.

I have been slowly recovering from surgery I had in late January. My left arm and hand have been swollen and painful since the surgery and doctor said it will take some time to resolve as some nerves got irritated in the process. Therefore, have not been able to use my arm/hand much, but have to so muscles do not atrophy. I could benefit from some PT right now, but unfortunately they are closed for another 2 weeks as well.

Thanks for asking, Nemosmom! I'm in pretty good shape with the social distancing. The store where I work part-time is closed till the end of the month, and we are being paid for the hours we were scheduled to work. The weather has been really nice, and I've been able to get out and bicycle or walk, when I can get over my anxiety enough to do so. And that has been daily so far!

The rest of what follows is maybe more than folks want to hear about. I have debated sharing it here, where we can discuss things without having to tell the whole world (as on Facebook, for example).

What has me very stressed out is that both of my parents were in the hospital with pneumonia last week, halfway across the country from where I am. My mother had gone in before any news of covid-19. In fact, she had been in the hospital and then out and then back in again, beginning the first week in February. Then last week, my dad came down with pneumonia and went to the hospital. The doctor treated him as a presumptive case of covid-19, and had both of my parents tested for it. I was absolutely distraught.

Today things are looking up quite a bit. Both tests came back negative, and my mother is being released back to the health care center at her retirement community, and Dad has improved since last week. My mother's dementia has progressed a lot since I saw her in January. With Dad in the hospital, and then recuperating at the health center, too, once he is released, I will be figuring out how to take care of anything that he would be doing but can't. (I am their only child.) I can't visit the retirement community or the hospital, so for now, I'm staying out here on the West Coast, while they are in the Midwest. I'm actually grateful for the time off work right now.

Nemosmom, thanks for asking. I bet you're doing a great job at home with the kids.

WA state is ground zero in the US, so we've been staying at home for a while. We are in our third week of isolating here in Seattle. We are fine, and doing well.

Of course, Greg and I could cry all day thinking about how the world is devastated by the pandemic. It's horrific. But we find silver linings, maintain hope, support others, do what we can for our parents, keep calm, are productive, and laugh daily.

Unlike some, we are absolutely glued to the news. That actually makes us less anxious! We make a point of being VERY positive and not spreading fear. There's the big difference. We have the power to do that so I'm making my level-headedness a priority, and helping others where I can.

I'm grateful to have someone ask . How are you doing ? I'm with most of us here in that it's up-and-down. Facebook is sometimes ok. but it's also full of regurgitated memes, news updates and other bs that is time wasting and repetitive.....so yes, I try to not spend too much on it . Instagram isn't as bad. I desperately wish it were warmer so I could get outside and walk. Damn it, it's still too cold and icy and dreary. Give me warmth and sun and my state of mind increases 10 -fold.

This is a different answer today than I would have had yesterday!

I was extra nervous because I needed to go out, a little ways from home, for some additional testing after a mammogram (my first one!). I found out today that it's just a small cyst and nothing to worry about, which is great news. It's not something worse, and it's not something I need to keep going out to treat. Now I can focus on worrying about COVID-19 only--which is enough to worry about! I'm in a big hotspot here in NYC, and I have asthma, albeit mild asthma.

I have a home (small, but Mr. C and I get along well, fortunately.). I have sweet cats. I have food. I have enough to do, and work I can continue with. I have a park I can go out to walk in relatively safely. My org just announced today that all our jobs are safe, as are our annual raises. I recognize that I am so fortunate compared to many people right now, and so I will try to focus on that. If the worst thing that's happened to me was a canceled trip and some down time at home, it's not the end of the world.

Sounds like we're all in the same boat. Trying to stay positive and adhere to a routine. I'm grateful to have a decent sized house and that the weather is nice enough to go outside because if I was cooped up inside with my husband all day long I'd lose it. A friend of mine said this is a good prep for retirement. I'm thinking I will never stop working--joking (sort of.) Also trying to limit how much news I watch--still working as we are a business that supports "Essential Infrastructure." We have skeleton crews working so I'm grateful for that. Hoping that our health care system can withstand this...

Thank you for asking.Variable like everyone else.On my own I d be ok but DH and DD are struggling so I feel like a 24hr crisis help line at the moment. Not that I am complaining we r very lucky ,beautiful weather and a fab garden to potter in.l keep thinking of all those holed up in a flat.l think l would go insane.Concerned about elderly parents who are 5hours away and not being as strict as they should with isolating and sad for a younger friend whose husband has just died suddenly and unexpectedly. No proper funeral of course.Just like everyone else trying to get through ,do the right thing and emerge all together at the other end ,fingers crossed.

I am up and down, like most everyone else, I guess. It's an unprecedented situation.

I like this article, which lays out a simple path for staying sane. Every day, set a simple goal, find joy, talk to a friend. I'm going to try to keep that in mind, going forward.

LIke Shevia, I try to limit my news intake and limit social media. As someone who already works mostly online, I feel the need to reduce my "virtual" life rather than increase it. So if I am here less, that is why. Wishing everyone strength and courage and continued health.

Doing okay so far - taking advantage of livestream music "concerts" and doing regular work still M-F for now. Getting some home projects done, vegetable garden started. It's getting *very* quiet out here in the rural areas. Stores can't seem to stay stocked so I guess people are sneaking out at some point to shop, but otherwise the roads have been pretty quiet. Restaurants/bars/retailers closed except those that have drive thru or curbside options.

I am doing ok with projects at home but wish the weather would warm up so we could sit outside on the deck. As Gretchen mentioned, dealing with adult children who are ill is hard. DS in Tokyo is alone and far away and not feeling well. We hope it is just allergies although he has not suffered with them before. DS and family locally are all sick. DS had a business trip to SF about a week and a half ago and came home with a cough and now has a fever. The rest have what sounds like regular stomach flu. We have not seen them for some time. A good friend has a new baby granddaughter who has been hospitalized on a respirator for at least a week. The plan is to take her off and see how she does. Comparatively, we are doing well and have what we need to get by for now.

I try to limit my news intake to only what is vital and practical for the day to day and especially avoid opinion pieces that forecast gloom and doom. I feel very lucky that my kids are old enough to basically entertain themselves - they still have some remote learning and have taken to a nightly movie night. It is nice to see all three doing something together, which is pretty uncommon at this age (15,15,17). I am very introverted and feel weirdly that I am more connected than usual since I am speaking to distant friends more often. And my sister is working from home so has much more time for me .

Our country announced a
round of business closures last night. As I mentioned in my post I had a little cry for the people who will suddenly find themselves unemployed and/or in significant debt with no income. But our government has announced a range of assistance measures with more to come. I know we will get through this but it’s scary stuff.
Today I just plan to concentrate on work (grateful that I still have it). Must stop reading the news for a few hours.
Thanks for the check in NM. Stay well!

My husband and I are doing okay. He goes out birding a lot. It’s a solitary endeavor. I sometimes go and sometimes stay home and practice the guitar and the uke. I can pick out some tunes on my guitar. When I see music, my brain thinks of piano keys. It’s hard to convert to the guitar strings. I can play the uke, but my Olli class was cancelled. Olli is for old people. Everyone is at risk!

I listen to NPR from dawn to dusk, and so am well informed. A good friend was depressed from the news. I suggested not reading any coronavirus news for awhile. I am immune to feeling that. It’s my Rx for hot flashes - it’s actually an antidepressant. However, another good friend told me today that a college friend of hers died from the virus this weekend. So it’s not abstract anymore. I hate to think of losing anyone close to me.

We went birding today out in the desert. The boys practiced social distancing.

Still swinging wildly on emotions. Mostly ok, but very concerned for the staff on the front lines, which includes many doctor friends.

The shutdown doesn't bother me much - I'm just working at home full time instead of part time, and I have PLENTY of home projects to keep me busy if I'm not working.

The dealing with adult children part is a challenge. DS is in D.C. and called home to report a fever yesterday. He's been working remotely for a week so risk is low, but still concerning that he might have to face being sick alone. DD is not at all happy about being home vs at college and this is a tough adjustment for all of us. Hoping we can come to common ground over the next week or so.

On the plus side, I made a commitment to myself that I would not read blogs/twitter during the work-day this week...and managed to hit an average step count over 6K by using that typical browse time for a fresh air break. Hoping I can make that a sustainable habit by the end of the shutdown.

Not happy people are sick and dying. Not happy that people are losing jobs and hours, or overworked and at risk. Not happy we now have a confirmed case in our rural county.

Otherwise, though, I'm content to be at home with DH and the kitties. I prefer to work at home and am not missing having to socialize with strangers nearly every day. I'm getting more done since I don't have to go out.
DH and I went shopping yesterday, so won't need much else for the next month. Props to Trader Joes, who were Very well managed and fully stocked!

We're doing okay so far. Last week I was at the office on Monday and Tuesday, so this week coming will be my first full week at home. I've been out twice -- Friday for groceries and today to the office to pick up shoes, my plant, some office supplies and a couple of books I thought I might need. I am waiting to hear that my parents have safely crossed the border and are home in isolation. They have been on a four-day drive from south Texas. That's a lot of driving. I think my blood pressure will go down a notch when I hear they are home.
