I am a rectangle/ IT and this works some of the time for me. I tried on several before I found one that worked. Too low and it looks odd, too high and I looked pregnant. The trick is also finding what to go under. Pencil skirt seemed to work the best, but pants did not look as good at all....it still is not my favorite look.

Thanks for the advice, everyone!
I am now thinking that a not-too-stiff peplum would be flattering, and hide the belly. So useful for holiday binges!! This definitely goes into my shopping list!
Will put up photos soon!

love my peplum jacket. it is just a variation on jackets with a waist.

As a pearshape I love peplums as long as they hit my in the right place. Peplums that hit right under the bust can look like you are pregnant, while peplums that hit 2-3 inches below the bra-line are more flattering on most figures.

Just for reference, here is an example of how I wore a peplum as a pearshape and as one with a tiny bit of a belly http://thepearshape.com/?p=747

I'm a pear and love peplums, because they provide much-needed ease over my hip area. They work a lot like an abbreviated fit and flare dress. They nicely emphasize a smaller upper torso/waist.

The length of a peplum and the thickness of the fabric play a big part in how they appear though. Some fabrications and peplum styles can make you feel bulky or create a maternity-esque vibe to a top. Try on a bunch of them and see what you think.

I vote yay to try one out. Maybe a peplum without too much volume will work well on a petite figure. I like how they accentuate a waistline.

I think it depends where your belly fullness is. If it is lower down, a peplum could work really well.
It may not be the most flattering look for the petite, but it might be worth trying out

I think it is more about your shoulder to hip ratio- I.T. and rectangles are good to go, maybe not so much pears?

I should think a peplum would be kind to the stomach area. Refinery 29 was recommending them for Thanksgiving food babies...

I have been seeing peplums everywhere! But with my rotund belly, and petite stature, I am afraid I will look too much like a little girl in it. Should this trend be best left to the people of Flat Abs land?
