When we moved from zsouthern California to Kansas with a new baby and 2 year old the wisest thing we did was chose a place with lots of young kids in the neighborhood plus an outstanding school. There was an active existing playtime sharing and going to school with lots of neighborhood friends took lots of the fear out of it. We even car pooled to preschool. One mom who was really sharp had checked them all out for her older boys so I just followed her lead. Preschools can vary so much but the experience is so valuable, if nothing else to learn to work together. My understanding of Vegas is that locals don’t play outside during most of the day during summer so please visit during summer before moving there, and talk with locals with kids Z’Joy’s age.The plus is that it’s dry heat. But the temperatures! That’s why hotels are practically free during the summer. Your mortgage doesn't change, but rent does. I also support the idea of looking at different times of the day. I’m on the other end of the equation — we have a tiny rental beach house (it was our vacation spot when I was a child and I lived in it for ten years after my father passed away so I could fix it up and help my mom rent it out). We have had four tenants over the last fourteen years and some were wonderful and some, not so much. It’s a constant worry, as I take landlord responsibilities seriously and am still deeply connected to the house and the community there. We have had some challenges with the current situation, but since March the rent checks have been arriving on time, so for now, so far so good! </p> <p>You’ve gotten some good bits of advice already so I’ll wish you well. Wi-fi is also a bonus. Consider carefully laundry facilities in each unit or shared on same floor. Downsize belongings so extra storage is not needed. Some places charge for use of storage room. Be mindful of mail location including packages. Package theft has been a problem this past year. On-site maintenance or a 24 hour on-call maintenance is useful for repairs and emergencies. Some places only provide one parking space per unit. Hopes this helps. We started to sell right before we knew of the pandemic in December of 2019 then all heck broke loose. Thankfully we found buyers who were willing to work with us and the pitiful mortgage company we have had to deal with but that’s another story. </p> <p>We wound up doing a short sale and now we have exactly 30 days to find a home. We have been looking for a full year. With so many ups and downs I’m so ready for our next. My sister and I still share our home. The plan is to move to Las Vegas in 10 years time after retirement. I cannot believe I’m talking about retirement. God willing Zi will be 13 years old. </p> <p>This was one of the major reasons I did an overhaul of my wardrobe. I feel like our life is finally moving beyond the dreadful year of 2020 and the start of 2021. I feel like we can finally see the light.</p> <p>Y’all pray for us and send good vibes hopefully we can find the right place that will be home without problems or stress. Any tips or suggestions welcome especially looking at apartments. Our goal is to sock away more money for our financial future </p> <p>Thanks for reading </p>
