Yesterday was only about 36 and today is forecast 33 and the nightime min is due to go below 20 - thank goodness. I tend to be awake for hours in the night if it is hot &nbsp;- not even a sheet to cover me.I tend to agree with you about the "at least you can put on more clothes in the cold" but I haven't spent more than a&nbsp;&nbsp;couple of weeks in snow so I can't argue from experience! &nbsp;And it does sound difficult, Dimity. &nbsp;I am currently reading Laura Ingalls Wilders "The long winter" to my daughters. Cold weather got tiresome after a while. Shovelling snow, scraping ice off the windscreen, being careful not to slip on ice, paying the gas heating bill, trying to look decent in a huge coat and snow boots, the skin on my nose flaking from cold, my knees getting numb after a shot walk outside, the car needing snow tires, pipes occasionally freezing, the kids needing new boots and thick coats every year, icicles forming dangerously on the house. At least, I have to keep telling myself this, over and over as I throw on shorts and a thin cotton blouse with the windows wide open and a cooling breeze coming through.</p> <p>Lucy, I hear you on the humidity in Brisbane. You think to yourself, 'hey, it's only going to be 31, that's not too bad.' And then you step outside and it's like you're walking in warm soup. I hate the feeling of constantly being wet. Never getting dry after a shower, and going to bed still damp after a day of being damp. All I can say is, it's even&nbsp;worse in far north Queensland, so you can be glad you aren't there. Hang in there. The winters are beautiful, probably from about March to November. It will be in the double digits below zero F tonight, with a high temperature tomorrow in the single digits below zero F. Wind chill is supposed to be about -35 F. Still, I wouldn't trade with you - I'd take cold over hot any day. It was certainly a great silver lining<br />Helen - not even a fan - oh yes I think you should get one! &nbsp;We have one for each child and one for us and they do help (the sort of pillar type ones)<br />And I too have been thinking of those in the Victorian and South Australian bush fires. DH is listening to the news on iview&nbsp;as I type. 26 homes gone<br />Crutcher - I think we need to meet in some happy medium between our two extremes!<br />&nbsp;Lucy - oh yes Brisbane's humidity is terrible. I spent a summer their as a teenager and remember thinking "how can anyone work here". Our heat was dry today, but is forecast to be humid tomorrow before cooling down.&nbsp;<br />I have been hopeless about doing any exercise since coming home&nbsp;and &nbsp;had planned to wake up early and go to the gym - but DD was saying that is silly, since I probably won't sleep well (didn't last night).</p> <p>Oh and I really appreciate the advice I read years ago on YLF to have frequent showers in one's underwear.
