I don't have answers but I offer sympathy. I've had plantar fasciitis for over a year now. It's slowly diminishing (yes, I've had physio and looked into footwear options) but it's definitely a slow process to heal. I can only imagine how complicated that would be by an additional foot woe.

I think the Fabbers' suggestions may offer help. What a great group this is.

I have a Morton's neuroma in my left foot. I agree with Traci. Keen makes excellent hiking boots with good arch support. I have dress orthotics so it's a 3/4 that I can wear with my regular size. The problem is that when you add an orthotic over an insole you often have to decrease the correction of the orthotic. Otherwise you'd want a removable insole. I don't know if this site would be helpful to you http://thetaorthotics.com/ I was not happy with the foot surgeon I saw or a recommendations from several podiatrists. I've been working with Dr Jarrett and my symptoms are much improved. I only mention because various corrections are available. I wear my highest correction in shoes with no or minimal arch support. I add one level down to my hiking boots. My keens are waterproof and lug sole and I can walk in them all day but for hiking and rugged terrain I may have some mild symptoms. Not sure this will be helpful to you but I thought I'd throw it out there for what it's worth.

I have three brand recommendations:
Earth
Keen
Cobb Hill

Earth is my number one suggestion (not their subbrand Earthies though.) They focus on a lower heel technology that my husband found very helpful in clearing up his plantar fasciitis several years ago.

Cobb Hill is owned by New Balance and is supposed to bring the support of fit and comfort of a sneaker into more modern shoes. I noticed when searching that they're now branding Cobb Hill under Rockport, which New Balance recently bought. I'm not sure if that's going to change the direction they go with the shoes, but most of what is available on zappos and nordstrom.com right now are still the old New Balance shoes, so if you find a pair you like you might consider duplicating.

Have you met with an OT at all? My daughter has nerve pain in one of her legs and feet and we've been given lots of tips on how to minimize it. The most surprising one to me is that stimulating the nerve MORE actually helps diminish the nerve pain. They recommended rubbing the foot with rough wash cloths, rolling it over tennis balls, massage to the leg and foot, heat, cold, etc. Basically anything that gives lots of sensation to the area and surrounding nerves.

I know I have posted about my foot issues before. Feeling VERY discouraged. Had surgery for plantar fascilitis several years ago that was pretty successful. However I have also developed Freiberg's Syndrome which causes burning (from the nerve) in ball of foot when I walk any long distance, i.e. Xmas shopping or exercising are 2 examples. Got new orthotics which work with my Brooks athletic shoes but when I put on my Birkenstock boots from last winter...the burning started again The Freibergs must be getting worse. I cannot walk over ice and snow with athletic shoes. Considering some New Balance boots I would order and walk around in the house...if they come in wide, Nordstroms on line chat said they cannot tell about that so will have to call N. Balance to find out. Is there anyone who has horrible foot issues and can make recommendations. I have tried Danskos, Munro among others and they are fine for i.e. work but when I need to walk for example more than an hour...I need my orthotics and STRONG arch support in a wide width shoe. Welcome any suggestions
