I'm holding out on spring purchases too. (The exception is I did buy perforated booties but that is because the ones I wanted last year sold out before I could buy them.) In past years I have way over bought for summer because I get so tired of the winter and am excited about spring/summer. In actuality our high summer is not that long so I don't need a lot of summer items. I need more transitional items than anything.

Nah, still hacking the winter closet here. I don't see much to inspire me at the moment. I have a bad feeling that it's going to be one of *those* years where everything looks a bit meh. It could be a good season for my wallet, or maybe saving up for something really special....

I haven't seen too much for spring yet either; I'm actually still trying to find some winter HEWIs. Our winter has actually been much milder than usual, so I've been able to get away with wearing some fall items. I should make a shopping list for spring. You are smart to make your list and then revise it and see the items that always stay the same. If you can find those items, they will likely have a high happiness factor.

It's good to plan ahead, but sometimes it's difficult to know exactly what you want or need so far ahead. I've bought too early in the past, only to find far nicer things in later collections - so frustrating.

How come I don't see anyone wearing flares? I seem to be the only one who wears bootcut and flared pants. All I see is skinny pants everywhere.

I'm not too excited about any trends for spring, either. I still want flared jeans, which I wanted last year but never found the right ones. But other than that I'm using this opportunity to stock up on versatile pieces. I'm not the trendiest person anyway, I usually don't hop on board until a trend has been around for a year or so. The ones that last one season only don't typically interest me.

My problem with being early on trends is that I will often see and obsess over something that is new in the fashion world, but difficult to actually find for sale, Then, the first version I finally find is expensive. A couple of months later, it will hit thr mass market and be cheap.

Hello rockins skinny scarf I am looking at you! I still lve you but definitely overpaid.

It's hard, because waiting and really thinking seems like a good idea, but then often you can't find what you're looking for because the selection is so picked over. If I could change one thing about the fashion retail industry, I'd change the whole 'buy for spring in winter, buy for summer in spring and by the time the actual weather gets here there's nothing left in the stores' nonsense. Obviously, some of that is needed, but why is it impossible to buy a winter coat in January?

The "cold shoulder" style is great if you want to be cool on a hot day while covering upper arms.
One reason that I started following YLF was to be able to adopt a trend earlier and get more wear from my purchases. I certainly don't go for every trend but enjoy finding those that work well for me. My area is conservative and late in adopting new trends. They get here at least a year late, often 2 years. For example, booties have finally gone mainstream here just this year.
Another plus: The items in the stores go on deep discount the end of the first season because most are not ready to buy them yet. It helps to know what to look for.

I agree about white pants. I did buy a pair of winter white "jeans" that are actually a twill fabric. I think I can wear them to work, even though we have a "no jeans" dress code. The cutout shoulder trend is indeed interesting, but I haven't loved it enough to buy anything like that. Ruffles aren't for me, so I'll pass, but I'm sure they look good on certain women. I like the idea of slip-on sneakers, and hope you find the perfect pair.

I am intrigued by the cutout shoulder trend that I keep seeing, and also the ruffles (although I would tend towards more minimalist ruffles if such a bird exists). Looking forward to seeing some pastel pink too! White pants always look so fresh for spring, so I'm sure those will be a great purchase, and slipon sneaks will be such a great change from boots!!

I haven't yet seen any exciting trends for Spring, either. I bought a couple of NYDJ cropped pants and a few tops because they were on sale and I know I'll wear the heck out of them in the Summer and on our occasional vacations to Central America & the Caribbean. That's all I've purchased, though. I'd really like to buy a few more tops that would work for both leisure and work (business casual).

This year it has ben a lot colder than it has be for a few years and I am tiring of sweaters and heavier coats, tall boots and booties already. At first I was so happy to be getting a lot of wear out of them. Now I want to get out spring things. One thing I am going to avoid this year is buying too soon. This spring I am taking my time to analyze my wants and needs better, and buy accordingly. After Angie's post about essentials, I am re thinking purchases. So far I have revised my list three times, but some things remain each time. Trying to find slip on sneakers, adding more white like new white jeans, a new skirt are what I am concentrating on. But so far there does not seem to be anything new and exciting out there trend wise anyhow!
