Pretty much what Diane said. I liked the jeans, then I saw them with all the other variations of footwear, and now I really like them I also like the Tippen shoes, just not as much with these jeans as the other shoe options. Esp #11.

Great shopping outfit as well.

Love the cropped flares on you, especially with the open toe booties in 11-12. I think the length is great.

I agree that different lengths can suit different people depending on leg length, shape of ankle and calf, etc. My calves have sort of "long" muscles -- they are not exactly thick, but the muscles don't appear terribly defined when viewed from the front (making my legs not look very shapely from the front, even though they look better from the side), so it can look like I have cankles if I wear an unflattering length. It's a weird little flattery quirk but I deal with it. ;-)

I love that EF pullover and am, in fact, wearing a very similar color of sweater today. I especially love it on you with the white jeans. If only my white jeans were not tight right now, I would copy!

Thanks, Rachylou, Diane, and Angie!

approprio, I thought of you when we were selecting the Trippen shoes for my friend's boutique! These are the ones I chose for myself on the buying trip last fall.

Viva, thanks for your thoughts, too! And your comment about flattery makes me smile. You were my first inspiration on these, you know, with your cropped flared pants that are just dynamite on you.

Kerry, I'm with you--I like a little ankle showing, I think. But I'll probably wear them all these ways. And I'm glad to hear you gained some insight into ankles--I just hope I haven't given you something to "worry" about now!

I think the cropped flares look great just as they are. I thought at first they'd be best with footwear that closes the gap but I actually like best the flat footwear options like oxfords and sneaks. You gave me an aha moment with the length of ankle observation! I too have calves that expand out rather quickly. I'll be considering this from now on when I assess cropped pants looks. Thanks

I love the jeans and the length, especially with the alternate, less girly shoes. Sometimes I like my cropped flares with heels which one could say are very feminine (but more mature) but for flats I think I prefer a sleeker line like a ballet flat or a tougher shoe. Either way - long winded, sorry - I like the length.

I also know what you mean about feeling you look short and wide. I feel that way too - I think it's inescapable due to the cut of the Jean. But I love them anyway. Flattery be damned.

I think the new jeans look pretty fab and untill i saw all the extra photos of shoe options I was going to suggest about a half inch shorter. I think...as Lisa touched upon...that the bow ties on your shoes are distracting a little. I actually love how the jeans look with pretty much all the other shoe possibles.
I adore your shopping outfit. The light palette is lovely and what a fab topper!

Lisa, I do see your point about the bows with the short pants. And thank you for your kind words. I appreciate your insights and your eye! Looking at the Pinterest photos, I noticed that most of the looks are outfits where you could substitute an ordinary pair of flares or skinnies. So I think I just need to wear these jeans like just about any others in my wardrobe and just go for it. I've been playing around and trying them with many of my shoes, and I think a lot of them will work fine.

Here are some more photos, with different footwear, for the curious. . .

oxfords, sneakers, tall booties, taupe cutout booties, black loafers, pewter peep-toe booties.

I'm another who actually thinks the slightly longer lengths are better than the shorter ones. It's all so personal and what works best for each one of us though - so I think you have to trust your eye and your instinct. I like these on you, but do admit the bow tie on the shoe strap is a tiny bit distracting or lends the look a bit of girlishness which I wouldn't want to do with an already girlish looking pant length......if you know what I mean. I hope I don't sound critical or harsh, because I sure don't intend to. I'm just throwing another viewpoint out there. It could be my own personal phobia speaking too. Take it with the biggest grain of salt there is. You have one of the most incredible wardrobes on this forum, and every time I see your posts, I wish I were half as successful at building a great collection of clothing.

Beth Ann, thanks! Good to hear I'm not the only one with that thought about the leg opening hitting at a slim part. You are right--I'm finding a lot of things I love this spring, and I'm so happy to have refreshed my denim wardrobe! Something Angie recommended some time back. I was resisting the thought, but recently I finally felt ready to do it.

I think the length looks great. If you look at this pinterest search https://www.pinterest.com/sear.....38;0=cropp you see a lot of longer cropped flares, especially when the opening isn't particularly wide.

I think it more comes down to which group of shoes you plan to mostly wear it with, because some might work at slightly different lengths.

Oh, I didn't think that at all! But you sew and you have an innate feel for what works on you. I have issues with stumpiness too and I'm not sure I can see past it for myself. I bet closing the gap all the way with fitted higher shaft boots would look fabulous!

Joy, the jeans are high-waisted, but I'm not sure that even these reach my actual, natural waist, which seems to be somewhere close to my bustline! (Not really, but it feels like that sometimes, it's so high.) They are probably pretty close to my waist, though.

Una, I didn't mean to sound like I know it all; far from it. There is a range of pant- or skirt-lengths at which my legs look very stumpy to me, though--kind of a personal poison-eye point on myself. But I'm wondering if trying to "close the gap" isn't the best strategy here for me, either. I'll have to try to post some pictures of the jeans with different shoes.

Well, that is interesting because I think our leg shape does affect how these look at different lengths. My legs are scrawny all the way up. You have a great eye so I'm sure you can spy out the perfect length.

You are convincing me that I need to try some cropped flares! The length of these looks intentional to me and your legs still look very long. Does the waist reach to your natural waist? I love the pewter lace-up Mary Janes too.

Pil, yes, and mine are 2" or a little more above my ankle bone, so within the "window."

Una, I think you're right, they may look a little long. Definitely longer than some are wearing them. But shorter looked pretty awful to me, I think because my calves expand out pretty quickly from my ankles--I have no length to my ankle area. My concern is that the jeans might not look intentional this way. But if not, I might just go for more edgy styling or something, if I can't stomach a shorter length on my particular shape of leg.

Or: maybe I'll need to go with the lower shoe options? These shoes tie at my ankles.
