Inge-- you are a genius! I don't know how I missed some of those, but you also included options in places I never would have checked. That is a great selection to start with.

And Kelly, thanks for reminding about Uniqlo!

Suz and Claire-- you have a good point, things may be heading out just now and cashmere sounds fabulous, but maybe not durable enough for me.

Sounds like a good plan, Elly. And I really like both jackets shown above.

Here are some more ideas:

Is it too early to see a lot of hoodies in stores? Because I was thinking Old Navy or Target for basic knit hoodies. I bet some will appear once we're in September.

Failing that, do you have access to any of the ladies' gear stores? I had a hoodie from Lucy that I wore to death a few years ago. Comfy and really great quality. Athleta or Chico's Zenergy line, or Loft's new Lou & Grey (or if you must, Lululemon) could all be options.

ETA: here's one on sale at Nordstrom, in stripes.

ETA2: or get a head-start on the layering with this 2-in-one hoodie/jacket.

What about these from Uniglo? Too casual?

I was at Gap the other day and saw a thick (maybe too thick to layer) navy cashmere pullover hoodie in the clearance section. But it was only marked down to $139. Merino is a lower cost alternative, and IMO, it often wears better than cashmere spun from the short, pilly fibers.

I got mine from MO!

That's not much help, is it?

I agree with Lisa that if you can spring for it, cashmere is always nice, and J. Crew has some on sale now.

I think more will be coming out pretty soon.

I like a cashmere (or similar knit) hoodie for this look. Aritzia, The Bay (Lord & Taylor brand) J Crew, and I think BR all have this kind of hoodie. Dresses up the casual outwear piece and adds a touch of grown-up sophistication....

So, I'm on the lookout to purchase several slim knit jackets or knit hoodies (zip up the front kind) to wear under my black leather jacket and the two jackets below-- basically I plan to wear the jackets during the transition alone, then with the knits underneath outdoors, then the knits underneath indoors as the season progresses. Color-wise, preferably charcoal grey and navy. I have been checking my regular haunts (old navy, gap, nordies, b&m discount places). So far I haven't found what I'm hoping for -- any good resources?

Thanks so much!
