And I would not call ballerina flats "sensible". They are so flat, with no arch support... and the ones I have that stay on, have a slight elastic, which digs into the back of my heel after a couple of hours. Maybe it's just me... I like them for occasional wear, not all day wear.
Thanks for sharing your impressions of fashion in HK.

That's very interesting about the ballerina flats. I would have thought the reason for closed toe would be the dirt (not that HK is dirty just that a city is much dirtier than a place in the country due to condensed population).

Great report! HK is my favourite city :)

You do SO much walking in HK - people wear sensible shoes most of the time. It's 100% true.

Yes! The a/c is arctic in HK. You just can't wear sandals.
Thanks for this Trisha, How interesting about the shoes! And the pairing of Chanel type jackets with the skirts that have the layers of tulle sound very unusual. I like the idea of bright rain coats

This is what I'm seeing...

- Cell phones. In every hand, in every place. Whatever is going on with the phone has priority over everything. This includes cross walks and moving sidewalks. As someone who needs work on walking and chewing gum I was impressed.

-Ballerina flats. About 10% sensible low heeled work pumps, 2% sky high stilettos and the remainder was all ballerina flats. Zero open toe sandals/shoes. Even during the very warm days I saw not one open toe shoe.

- Skirts with sheer layers. The base layer of the skirt could range any where from mini to maxi. The layers ranged from one single close cut layer to multiple diaphanous poofs of tulle. The skirts were usually paired with a plain cotton tee or occasionally a Very cropped Chanel type jacket.

-Jackets/ blazers with asymmetrical collars, closures and hems.

-Long single strand necklaces that hit below the waist.

-Bright colored rain coats. Especially fushcia colored. Second to the brights is patterned rain coats.

That is what I've noticed here.
