This is a tricky situation Nicole. I have been in a similar situation with friends. I would not offer my opinion voluntarily, but I would speak the truth if I was asked to give an opinion. Perhaps someone else will relieve you of this duty!

If this had happened with my best friend I would chaulk it up to individuality. Also I think sometimes we do buy and wear certain things for the luxurious comfort or that it brings back a good memory.
You are a good friend to her to be concerned about whether you should tell her but I think if you are not asked it is better left alone.

The entry about stripes brought this to mind.

On Friday, I was shopping with my friend--a VERY good friend whom I love and trust. We shop together often and we are always honest about our opinion of something when the other asks "How does this look?" I know the parts of her body she is self conscious about and she knows mine.

So, she comes out of the dressing room carrying a striped top that had wider stripes on the arms than on the body. I didn't see her in the top, but I suspected that it would make her arms look fat. (Which happens to be one of the parts of her body she is very self conscious about.) I asked her if she was going into the dressing room with that, and she said "No, I already tried it on, I love it!!" So I kept my mouth shut and figured it looked better on than I expected. Then I saw her in the top over the weekend and it was really unflattering. My friend is VERY style conscious. I think she liked it because it was reminiscent of a pajama top and was probably very comfy. But, I felt that saying something at that point was only asking for trouble, so I didn't say anything. If she had asked me what I thought, I would have been honest, but she didn't ask, and she already bought the shirt.

Have any of you ever been in a similar situation? Would you have done anything differently?
