My grandfather did glass. Masking tape is what the guys would use.

I usually ask for advice from my hardware store. They usually are very knowledgeable about situations like this. But however you do it, wear safety goggles, long sleeves, and good gloves. Good luck with this.

I think the repair companies may come to your house and do the repair so you wouldn't have to be the one to take it down. Maybe call around and ask.

hire someone else to do it?
sorry, that's my fallback on all home repair, short of changing a light bulb.

The glass companies I have worked with used masking tape on the inside and outside. It is cheap and comes in a variety if widths. They crisscrossed the tape in various places on the break.

I found this online and it appears to have a good approach. I think safety is pretty key and they recommend glasses and gloves which makes sense. http://www.diydata.com/general....._glass.php

I was going to say packing tape, but Jay's idea of contact paper is brilliant!

The first thing that comes to mind is contact paper...the kind you line your shelves with. It's pretty sticky. You might want to put some cardboard or something firm on the other side while you apply the contact paper or whatever you come up with. That would prevent pushing it out while putting pressure on the paper to insure sticking.
Good luck!

So I have this window on my porch. It's in a wood frame and really should have been replaced with the screen frame for summer. Meanwhile I think a bird (fortunately no corpse to be found) must have crashed into it because it is all crazed / shattered but still in the frame. I want to take it down to get it repaired but I don't want a thousand pieces of glass either in the porch or out in the garden when I move it.

Does anyone know a way to avoid that? Is there a sort of film I could put on it to catch the glass on each side?

I know this is really off topic but I will be grateful for anyone's advice here!
