I saw this on West Elm: http://www.westelm.com/m/produ.....DUCTSEARCH

I admit this isn't quite my idea of midcentury modern, but depending on the carving on your bed may be an ideal direction.

Not a guru but just chiming in. I really love the idea of a white dresser with really clean midcentury lines as a double contrast to your dark, ornate bed. Maneera's second picture, Mary's second link -- I love these the most.

And I'm so inspired by everyone's ideas here. I know where to come when it's decorating time!

PS I have a small chandelier in my office and I love it, Anna. It's a great way to add interest and light in a place other than over a dining room table or in an entryway.

Painted wooden furniture is really having a moment right now. For my bedroom I got an old (antique-ish) one on Craigslist and painted it coral with a gold top. This was my inspiration: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/151503974939931906/ Something like that might be fun with your natural wood bed.

I also love this look with the outside painted gold and the drawers white: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/151503974940460387/

i like the idea of the contrast with a modern dresser & your antique darker bed. I think legs give it a lighter feel floating a bit off the floor

this one has modern clean lines & a touch of steel:
https://www.eq3.com/us/en/prod.....esser.html

This is a beautiful handmade solid cherry piece, maybe too long?
http://woodrevivalstore.com/pr.....-dresser-1

this one is more traditional, Swedish style that could feel a bit of that western touch:
https://www.bassettfurniture.c.....Z40506.asp

Thanks for the shout out, Mochi!

Anna, I really like the dresser you've linked to.....would you buy it in the light wood or the walnut?

From a totally design perspective, I agree with Jules. When it's hard to match wood finishes in the room, white is a fail-proof choice....especially if your walls are white or ivory. A dresser in white will fit right in without fighting for attention, and your four poster bed with the chandelier above it can then take centre stage.

You know how sometimes a bit of expert advice sticks in your head, one that is stuck in mine is the idea that every great room has a bit of black and/or white in it. And it does seem to ring true when I break down design photos. We focus on the colour scheme and wood, but there is almost always some black and white incorporated that you might not notice at first glance. It doesn't stand out but that's precisely why it works, it just fits in. And since internalizing this I have found that black or white works in almost every room, especially when I'm feeling like there's too much going on.
So.... a beautiful lacquered piece in black?

Not sure if I'm a guru! But I really love the one you have linked too. As you can't match the bed, I think you want something that has a bit of an edge, but blends in colour wise. So good choice. Nice clean lines, to keep the focus on the bed and chandelier :)

I agree with rachylou. Unless you happen to find something in a similar dark color that picks up some aspect of the beds shape (spindle feet?) while still being clean-lined, and that's hard to do. Mixing and matching eras and colors deliberately works better I think as long as the other parts of the room are harmonious in terms of colors and shapes. Maybe use a mid-century inspired bedside lamp as well or something.

My decorating aesthetic has been mid century modern (teak colors) meets world market textiles for awhile now, although I'm ready to go for more minimalist textiles now....

You could go for a midcentury high boy or cabinet of some sort. Something Scandinavian. Teak if you feel rich. I'd go for a lighter wood colour. Dark to match the bed would end up looking like a mismatch instead of a deliberate contrast, I feel.

So I've decided that the dressers I inherited from my mother aren't really cutting it. Some of drawers are really difficult to open & close. They hold no sentimental value.
My ideal style is more fake mid century modern, with possibly a bit of western. With cleaner lines. Some Dania pieces, etc.
However my bed is an antique dark wood four-poster bed that I inherited from my grandmother. It is sentimental. It has some ornate carvings. But not overly frilly, for lack of a better term. I plan on eventually installing a small chandelier over the bed; there is no central lighting in the bedroom. So over all the bedroom is more feminine I guess. I'm fine with that. I also have a cedar chest in there.
So what style dresser should I look for? Needs to be taller than wider. 6 or so drawers. Searching online hasn't lead me to any clues. I'd prefer real wood or plywood, not particle board.
