This is lovely! I would do sheer hose and a gold bracelet if possible...and I like the gold clutch. Might as well go all out with the gold/bronze since it's the holidays! (-:

I love the skirt, especially on you. I think lower key is more elegant anyway. I am reminded of your MOTG dress hunt and I think you should wear more skirts, in general! You have very nice legs and the proportions work for you.

Unfrumped, I only wear clip ons too! None of the women in my family have pierced ears so I never saw a point as well, but I love clip on dangly earrings, the longer the better! I actually bought my own findings so that I could convert regular earrings to clip ons and have a box of them.

My whole life, people keep asking me when I'm going to pierce my ears and telling me it's not painful. Duh, I know. Now I just tell them that since I like long danglies, it's better this way as the clips just come off if they get caught in something,m

Hey everyone, my name is Sarah Musselman, and I'm a budding fashion
blogger with hopes of one day joining the fashion world as a stylist or
designer. I just began my blog and am looking for some feedback. Please
let me know what you want to hear about and what you think I could
possibly do to make my blog better for fashion beginners to fashion
experts. This really means the world to me, and thank you so much for
even taking the time to read this. Feel free to tell your friends at
all, I really want to hear what all kinds of people thing because I'm
always trying to make it better. Thank you so much from the bottom of my
heart. My blog is located at sarahmusselman.blogspot.com :)

In regards to your outfit I do not think clip on earrings are dorky at all. In actuality clip ons are considered pretty vintage and vintage is in... Heck, I just bought some clip ons from a thrift shop recently because I thought they looked so vintage and adorable. I also agree with you that conservative is best... even as a youngster I believe modest is the hottest and generally more conservative outfits look more high fashioned and put together any ways. I love the gold clutch, and I definitely think you should stick with it. As for the ruching, I do not think I would notice it unless you pointed it out to me. I think your outfit is looking good. Maybe go for a cuff bracelet or some other simple accessories to dress it up while still fitting the occasion. Have fun, and good luck making your final outfit decisions

I don't think clip-ons necessarily look dorky at all! I can see where it might limit the shapes you can wear and make it harder to find cute options, though.

Auvergne, haha, I have lots of earrings, but my ears aren't pierced so they're all clip-ons. Although I aimed for ones in which that's less obvious, at some point in the past couple of years I started feeling like clip-ons branded me as dorky so I quit. Probably 95+% of the women at work have pierced ears. I guess that's a topic for another thread!

I think it looks elegant and festive! If you want to accessorize a little more, do you have black or gold/bronze earrings with a little sparkle? I could see something like that looking really nice, especially since it looks like you have sleek, short hair that would show them off well.

Thank you for the suggestions!
I think y'all are on to something. Since I might not carry a clutch around all the time--there are usually tables--I was feeling un-accessorized but did not want to over-do with the bronze lace. Hencey cuff, or, I never thought of a brooch for this, even though I have a small collection.
Beth Ann--thank you for thoughtful critiques and encouragement.
tracina, I had some bronzey-brown shoes but I am just not loving the square toes.
Here's a hose concern, but I'm still gonna try it. The skirt to me is just a tad short--not racy in any way, but knees may show-- and so I wonder if nude hose will be okay. But I agree that lighter is better for this look, so ..fingers crossed for nude or a happy medium.

You look classy and well dressed. Mainly I feel the need for accessories. If not a necklace, how about a statement brooch? A glittering snowflake against that dark merino wool would be so lovely and festive.

UF: I don't think you realize what you have here. The pieces are simple, but there is great texture, metallics and a more modern cut to everything that you would have had when you first started posting here.

Before I even read the comments I thought the same thing --- lighter hosiery, and a big cuff (I think you would enjoy this as much as the people looking at you).

The bronze lace skirt is a great starting point, and I like the metallic clutch. I was going to say what Suz did, which is that sheerer hose would lighten up the dark outfit and look more festive. Add a blingy bracelet and maybe some metallic pumps and you're all set!

The department “holiday” party is coming up and as usual I am behind the curve on my dressy/party capsule. The dress code is always “festive attire” , and people do not usually go all-out cocktail-blingy. Plus most of the attendees are much younger!

Here’s about what I may have unless I do power-shopping. Sorry pics are so dark with dark items.

Bronze lace skirt, from TJMaxx, bought randomly over a year ago thinking it would be a good basic for a dressy capsule and not a tragedy if not used much. Merino boatneck sweater. Pumps I can walk in. Clutch--? Is this gold one “too much”? Otherwise I have black.

One concern is whether what I see as a little bunching issue at the side seam is very noticeable. I think that is due to not-highest quality vs. too tight! Fabber footwear would be great, but don’t have currently—my fantasy-life shooties (stlll waffling over) have a large silver buckle and grayish reptile trim, and I don’t think that mixes well with the bronze lace. Was not adding necklace bling because the sweater has a cabled neck. Could consider bracelet (would have to buy).

I think it’s pretty sedate, but I'm not coming up with much else. I considered trying to do something with the Leith's, but don't have the right top, plus they have the drawstring--would prefer a more dressy slouchy pant.

It it presentable? Sorry for having such a low bar.Conservative is better than competing with youngsters or having a wardrobe malfunction at this type of event, but of course I would have liked to have assembled something with more...? personality. Temps can be wacky—below freezing or mild, this time of year.
