You know this is a great question for building your "Christmas capsule"!

I have a few vintage hankies-my focus is usually some kind of flower and in colors that "go" with my things--that I can tuck into breast pocket of my jackets that have them. At least until I start thinking I look goofy. So I have several poinsettia hankies for this season. And some vintage brooches/pins--usually sterling or not-sterling silver. Then dogwood for Easter.

I stay pretty conservative at work, so I do not go for wearing sparkly tops or glitter-Toms to the office, though some employees do, so I gravitate more toward trying to wear richer-looking colors and textures at this time of year, and lots of shades of red.

But I really like the idea of subtle things that are truly seasonal but that you might have to take a second look to see, like the snowflake pendant ( and something like that could worn along with another necklace) or icicle earrings, or maybe finding a print that seems ordinary at first but has something blended in like a pattern of pine needles or holly, or maybe a watch that is your "Christmas watch" in a Christmas color or with something on the watchface. Even something more "silly" or fun like a red watch with Snoopy under Christmas tree ( I made that up) I might consider if it were done right and just peeked out.

Hmm, not really needing another reason to shop, but sounds like one could aim to accumulate a few things that will be fun for the season, whenever you might find them. Vintage shops are good for this especially if the rest of your oufit is modern.

Haha! Fur baby is the ultimate accessory! I want to try a jingle bell collar on her and see how much she hates it... haha!

Ohmigosh tho! What a ton of brilliant ideas! I'm just gonna print out this list and take it with me tonight when I go to rummage for my winter things. Must remember to fetch my green velvet suit!! Ohno... I think I've come up with a give-away regret... my snowflake earrings from when I was still in school...

I think I want some brocade jeans. In the meantime... I went to Burlington Coat Factory last night to see what was left of their puffers (ya ya, I'm slightly obsessed)... It was near their closing and as they were shooing us to the doors, I saw a navy brocade skirt suit size 6. I just grabbed it and took it home.

I'm wearing the skirt today... need to take a pic. Styling help is needed...

Great ideas in this thread! I have a couple Xmas t-shirts that I layer over long sleeved tees for weekend Xmas cheer. They don't work as well for work except on casual Fridays. I also like to wear red sweaters and try to add a little sparkle. And listen to lots of Xmas carols!

Tactile depth --- velvet, velour, quilting, pleating, furry or fluffy textures, slubby silk or smooth satin, braided trim, lace...anything that suggests a touch of luxury or coziness --- and that reminds me of cabled knits now.

Shine (even subtle) --- needn't be sequins, could be brocade like Diana suggested or even a slightly shimmery thread running through a knit or a tweed, or just the natural sheen of satin or velvet

I find stripes (not just candy-cane colours and widths) and larger dots festive because they remind me of wrapping paper, probably.

So do byzantine/baroque motifs, for the same reason --- they're common in brocades, but also now in other printed fabrics.

In terms of colours, doesn't have to be Christmas colours, I think --- anything that reminds you of a box of individually wrapped chocolates (usually jewel tones, but also pale shimmery pastels)... or colours reminiscent of flames

Shapes --- short of santa and reindeer and candy canes and gingerbread men, you could consider stylized snowflakes or stars or snowdrops for jewellery and accessories, as well as paisley, tree prints or poinsettia-type patterns, some of the more seasonal animal patterns (hares, owls, fox, mice are not 'traditional festive' animals but are wintry in some ways) or intricately patterned round beads (bauble-like, but not obviously Christmas ornaments)

Some fabrics are distinctly wintry in association, like plaids and tweeds... and again, brocade and velvet.

I shiny ,dressy top with jeans. Of velvet jacket or blazer with black pants or jeans. It's very casual, but I've been wearing a red Snoopy Christmas short sleeve tee under a black blazer and jeans. Shiny snowflake earrings or pendant. Nontraditional reds and greens like chartreuse and fuchsia. A scarf with some c Quinn's scattered on it

Oh I love Diana's idea !!! Yes, something brocade. Or velvet or velour !!! A scarf, gloves....jeans. I also love the Hannukkh colors of blue and silver together. A little sparkle doesn't hurt either.

Though I do like a candy cane pin..sorry.

Get some brocade jeans! I just got some in a pretty subtle print and they're just dressy enough to feel fun but not too over the top to wear for everyday. (plus I happened to match the wallpaper at the restaurant I went to tonight.) or get some velvety gold brocade ones for a bigger statement.

Bright happy patterns. Bright happy colours. (I got my fuchsia sweater to have something new for the holidays that I could wear afterwards too.)

A little extra glitter or shine somewhere: earrings, brooch, scarf, sweater...

I have a shiny jade green scarf I am going to try to incorporate somewhere. I rarely wear it, but this is a good season for it. And it doesn't scream Christmas, because it's a different shade of green, so it doesn't come across too tacky.

I don't do Christmas ornament earrings.

Red, but not bright Christmas red....wine red.

I should be taking my own advice here, right? But wait a minute, my problem is an evening event.

So... JR & Carole mentioned, on Suz's thread, about *needing a shot of joy* and a *festive touch.* I have to say that today, I didn't pull all the way through. I wanted to wear my (fake) denim dress and that's about as far as I got.

I think JR & Carole have hit it on the head here. It's one thing to have party outfits sorted out for the holiday season... but I think I need to spruce things up for the rest of the time. Only... I'm out of ideas. Like, I do not want to wear a Santa pin or anything.

What says winter fun? Daytime winter fun...
