velvety thank you so much for this info!

When I look at the Ecco Hannah, the ascot patent is not red. It looks gray to me. Am I missing something?

Since I wear lots of black on top I think red shoes like Angie did in her blog post is the answer. So festive and easy and fun!

Oooh - I hope you get the Ecco Hannah Two Strap - I think you'll find them very comfortable. I don't have these yet, but I keep eyeing them in the ascot patent - just for fun.

Just a tip - my feet are somewhere between a size 7.5 and an 8 - and the Euro size 38 fits me best in the Ecco brand. I did some research on this, and it turns out that Ecco makes their shoes so that they have a slightly 'roomier' toe box area. That said, they are also designed to fit a bit more closely (ie. slightly narrower) at the heel. I have the Ecco Bremen Boots, the Bridget t-strap, and the black patent 'Coto' Mary Jane flats.

At a family wedding last spring, I had these fabulous-looking shoes on, but had the Bridget t-straps tucked away in a tote bag. After a few hours in my skyscraper super-fancy heels, my feet were killing me. Put on the Bridget t-straps, which you couldn't really see under my long gown, and danced the whole night away. I've also shopped for hours and hours in Ecco heels and they are very comfortable.

Can't wait to hear/read about which shoes you get.

Good point Angie---I guess I want the moon. I am always jealous of my husband at these dress up affairs. Happily standing and talking at cocktail parties for hours in his wing tips.

I think I will order the ecco Hanna 2 strap. Aren't they classic and timeless?

Hi Debbie! I think that a 3-hour walking shoe for parties is an unnecessary tall order. One hour is plenty. Don’t you think?

All the shoes posted have potential! They look pretty and will do the job. I vote the eccos. At least you’re assured a bit of comfort.

i agree that if you have to do a strap, a t-strap is more leg lengthening than a mary jane strap and probably the thinner the strap the better? i just know i love the LOOK of the thick strap but then once they're on my foot, my leg looks quite matronly.

as a sidenote, i bent this rule and got some clarks mary janes (http://shoe-store.net/images/p.....-20037.jpg) because i wear them with pants only (too matronly with a skirt), i showed them to my 93 yr old grandmother and she LOVED them and said they reminded her of her mother (who was a very lady like victorian...). her words were, "now that's a real grown up shoe!"

I could be totally wrong about this, but it just occurred to me that perhaps a t-strap with a lower vamp might be more leg-lengthening than a Mary-Jane style. I'd be interested to hear what Angie has to say on the topic.

I don't really have any Mary-Jane styles right now, but have had some shoes that have a strap at or near the ankle, and have noticed that a t-strap shoe is a bit less-likely to chop off the ankle/leg at a weird spot. There's still a strap to help keep the shoe on, but it's not placed right at the ankle, or at the high point of the arch of one's foot.

That said - I think a Mary Jane style will definitely work, but am wondering if maybe a thinner strap or a strap with a pretty embellishment on it might be better overall for a party shoe.

Meanwhile, I can relate to wanting some sort of strap there to keep the shoes on. I have a narrow foot with a really high arch, and most shoes just flip-flop all over the place on me.

Here's another one that might work - though, once again - not red patent (the black patent looks dressiest to me):

thank you everyone for the wonderful suggestions.

I wonder if Angie will think the black heel (which is on most styles above) is dressy enough for cocktail/gala holiday wear?

Angie---what do you think?

Here's another possibility:

http://www.zappos.com/ecco-han.....ed-leather

I believe the Hanna Two Strap might also come in something called "Ascot patent" - a plum colour.

I actually have these ones, and can vouch for their comfort - and dance-ability. These are 8-hour shoes, despite being glossy and a bit dressed up:

http://www.shoebuy.com/ecco-br.....rap/218326

These are a bit fancier, but not a Mary Jane and not red:

http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7473162/c/89.html

Actually - here's a whole list of comfortable potential options for you:

http://www.eccousa.com/shoes/w.....-list.aspx

Can't wait to hear what you get. I need some new party shoes too

These are significantly higher than you wanted (3"+), but they immediately sprang to mind. And hey, they're Sofft brand, which is a comfort brand. Why not give them a go and return them if they don't work?

http://www.zappos.com/sofft-fi.....nti-patent

(Reviews say they run narrow, but they do come in a Wide)

Also: not a mary-jane, but might be up your alley, although also a bit high-heeled:

http://www.zappos.com/sofft-or.....ede-patent

I have a black dress and would like to accessorize it like Angie did in her Holiday photos.

I am looking for some 3 hour shoes (no taller than 2.5 inch heel) and think ruby red patent leather would be fun. I need a strap across the insole to keep them on my feet and would prefer closed toe.

Has anyone found any they might recommend to me?

Shoes that I could wear to a gala dinner?

Thank you so much!
