You look great in both skirts but I'm with the others on the black with that beautiful red satin blouse for the party.
Hope to see pictures and that you have a great time out dancing. That will keep the weight off! Congratulations on your weight loss.
Are you going to make a blouse too. I bet a white one with some ruffles would be pretty with your brown skirt.

I'm sure you've already left for the party, but I prefer the black skirt too. Do you have any tall black boots?

Can you wear the chain necklace doubled up? Part of it falling inside the blouse and a longer part hanging outside the blouse?

Have fun!

Christine, hope you have fun at the party! I think the black skirt, pearls and ribbon would look beautiful. I think you would look great in a pencil skirt. Also, congrats on the weight loss!

Thanks everyone! I'll post a pic of the final outfit. I'm excited. The party includes dancing, and we haven't been dancing for YEARS.

shiny - sewing definitely helps keep the cost down. I needed all new bottoms, and now I'm ok for winter, but my spring/summer wardrobe is in need of help. I'm planning on sewing a bunch of skirts for then.

Susan - I went down 2 sizes as well. Most of my tops still work OK because I have to buy them to fit my wide shoulders, and that didn't change. However, like you, I needed all new bottoms. My black skirt was from my first (failed) weight loss attempt a couple of years ago, so it's really only 1 size too big. I'm determined to keep this weight off this time, and I think I"m on track, having only gained 1 lb over the holidays.

I agree about the black for the party. The brown skirt is very cute and I'm excited for you that you made it, but it doesn't say "party" as much. I so agree about the ribbon belt and pearls! Have a great time!

I lost some weight a couple of years ago and went down 2 sizes. I am still trying to replace skirts and pants, but I vow to only buy things that are FAB, so it is taking a while!

I hear you! I dropped down 4 sizes about two years ago (and also quit smoking around the same time). I'm still holding on to a few items of my old clothes, just in case, though I probably shouldn't.

Luckily you can sew - that should help keep costs down!

Enjoy the party.

Thanks everyone - I'll try to track down the ribbon, and the pearls are in for sure.

Shiny - the weight loss feels great. However, it left my wardrobe in a complete shambles, and we were in a tight financial position. Financially we're getting better, and I'm so glad that I can slowly rebuild my wardrobe.

Oh, I think that the black ribbon tied at the waist and pearls would be lovely! I don't think the pearls would be too much of a contrast at all; in fact, I seem to remember that Angie recommended to add them when wearing something black with something colored to soften the effect.

Thanks guys. Tanya - Tim was reading over my shoulder & was thrilled you mentioned him. Oh, and skirts are the easiest thing to sew. A black pencil skirt is next on my list of 'to buy fabric' for.

Taylor - I wish I had a black belt, because I think it would look great, but all my belts fit my hips rather than my waist. I wonder if a black ribbon tied around would work as an alternative? I'm sure I have a black satin 1 inch wide ribbon somewhere.

I love my pearls, and just don't wear them enough (they used to be my grandma's). Do you think they will be too much contrast with the black of the skirt?

Thanks for your opinions!

I like it with the black skirt also. Do you have a black belt you could put with that? Whatever you decide I am sure you will look very pretty! (I prefere Pearls as well)

Hi Christine, that's a gorgeous blouse. I vote for the black skirt, it seems more festive even though it's a tad long. I like both necklaces, but have slight preference for the pearls. You must be very talented to make a whole skirt on your own - I can about sew a button and that's it. And Tim did a great job with the photos!

My dh's work is having their holiday party tonight. He asked about the dress code, and they said guys usually wore ties, ladies wore skirts & dresses. I have this new deep red blouse I'd really like to wear. My two skirt options are the black skirt, which I'd probably pair with black tights & black flats. This skirt is a little big, it's from before my weight loss, and I know the length is a little long. This is dh's choice.

http://s408.photobucket.com/al.....010562.jpg

http://s408.photobucket.com/al.....010561.jpg

The other option is my a-line brown tweed skirt that I made last weekend. Length is perfect, and I like the brown with the top. I'd pair it with nude hose & brown ballet flat. Unfortunately I dont' have any heels right now (next on my 'to buy' list).

What do you guys think? Also, do you prefer the gold necklace or the pearls?

Please ignore the hair. I just came in from snow shovelling. Darn winter. I also haven't done my makeup or anything yet.

Oh, and credit to my son Tim for taking the pics.

Thanks!
