Fabulous! The dotty sheer hose make all the difference!

If you want to try a clutch, your current bag can be clutchified by tucking the chain inside, and tucking the bag under your arm.....

Thanks again for everyone's advice! I didn't really get great pictures, but here's one of the final outfit.

In the end, I decided to go with the bracelets and leave off the necklace. Once I had the dotted hose on and added some red lipstick (which, believe it or not, I didn't own before and had to make a last-minute Sephora trip to buy), I thought the more restrained jewelry option made sense. I also wore some delicate gold dangling earrings with black stones instead of any of the pairs I was thinking of. The bolder pairs I was considering were too much and the small pairs I was originally going to do somehow felt a little too "mature" and conservative.

Thanks, everyone! I think I'll definitely do the sheer hose with the dots!

And it's interesting what everyone says about going a little more minimal on the jewelry. I'll maybe try both versions (without the bracelets or without the necklace) when I get dressed for this tomorrow and make the decision then. Another option would be to wear more noticeable earrings and leave off the necklace, possibly keeping the bracelets. I have the pair here that's sort of a shimmery white stone, and another pair I don't have a picture of that's actually kind of similar in feel to the necklace, with oversized stones in different warm reddish shades.

Sveta and Neel, I don't think I really have any dressy colored pumps that would work with this. I technically have a dark burgundy patent pair, but that's in the donate pile because the patent is cracked and they were never that comfortable anyway. Also gray suede and brown patent pumps, but I don't think either of those would work. Clearly I need a pair of colorful dressy pumps!

Caro, I definitely think it would look good as a clutch. But I also tend to be awkward enough trying to balance any food or drink I'm holding while standing in heels at things like this, so I have a feeling it would just end badly if I tried to add in a clutch I needed to carry too!

Love the dress!! I think the orange accessories are great! But I would skip the bracelet. Also, I agree with Sveta that if you have colored shoes or lighter hosiery it would be brilliant. YLF!

I very much like this dress, and agree with others to leave off the necklace, and change to some patterned sheers! Clutch is a strong pop of color, love this! You're beautifully set!++

Hi Aubergine --

I love when thinking ahead pays off -- cut the tags off and go!

Agree with the general direction of the comments, though I'd like the earrings + necklace to stay over the earrings + bracelets (I find bolder jewelry can be a good ice breaker at events like these) and I'm fine with your opaque hose since I like the matte + patent combo.

Can't go wrong going in the other directions mentioned, just my .02.

And if you have a slip handy (or have needed one) definitely experiment. I love my slips and find they do wonders to knock back cling, static or otherwise. ;)

Great LBD! That should be perfect.

I too was thinking to use some but not of the jewelry. You could necklace only or earrings/ bracelets. My preference is Caro's suggestion to leave off the necklace. Though it goes with your bag, the bag makes a great pop of color by itself, and the high necinevof the dress can take care of itself.
The sheer hose or dotted hose would be great, and again, patterned hose would lead me to simplify somewhere else. You will look great, with a festive but understated look for an after- work event.

Oh what a fun dress! I love what you've put together and bet I'd love it even more with sheer hose (especially polka dot ones). I think either pair of earrings will work since they're both small.

YLF! I really love the dress & think sheerer hose would be perfect. My choice would be to wear earrings & bracelets - I'd leave off the necklace as it feels a little too much with the neckline of your dress & your gorgeous hair I'd also put the chain inside the bag & use it as a clutch

Very flattering dress on you!
I would definitely go for sheer hose, opaques are more casual and office-like. Patterned sheer black hose may be great with such a simple in cut dress.
Do you have other color shoes? Part of me wants to see something other than black here but black shous will work fine with sheer patterned black hose for added texture.
I like the red bag but I would use either necklace or bracelets here (but I am more minimalist about the jewellery lately).

Hi all,

So my husband's office holiday party is this Thursday evening. It's usually a little later in the month, so I hadn't started thinking at all about what to wear until, oh, this morning or so.

The party is at a restaurant/club downtown and is a cocktails-and-appetizers kind of thing. People usually dress nicely, but not black tie or anything, especially since it's right after work on a weeknight.

I was thinking of wearing this black dress I got on sale at Ann Taylor a few months ago, which has been sitting in my closet waiting for an excuse. I've tried accessorizing it here with a sparkly necklace in warm reds and oranges, which is probably the most holiday-ish piece of jewelry I have. I've also added some gold bracelets, black patent pumps, and this (coral? mango? I'm bad at describing orange shades) bag. I have two pairs of earrings as options, which you can see in the accessories picture. One pair are small gold hoops with tiny clear crystals and the other are semi-oversized studs made up of tiny gold crystals. Both are attempts to add a little more sparkle without competing with the necklace.

I was also wondering about switching out the black tights for sheer black hose, either plain or with little dots, which might lighten it up a little bit. And I'm thinking this may be one of those dresses you need to wear a slip with.

I'd wear my hair down and curly like this, but probably with a little more pulled off my face. I also don't have makeup on here, but would obviously do that for the party. Maybe involving some red lipstick.

What do you think? Does this outfit work at least as a starting point? Thanks for looking and for any feedback!
