abc! Your Ornaments/ tree are gorgeous...but those little fashion accessories in #5 are the best!

KG - I love your nativity! I have one that is personal to me. The main characters are plastic, but they are so appealing. I have some vintage style mini brush trees that I set up, and the boys make different mangers...one year popcycle sticks, another year Lego!

Marianna - love your blue and white lights. Yes! Do get some more blue ones!

Xtabay - looking forward to the update!

Carla, your outdoor decorations are very chic and understated. Just my style.

We went to a town a couple hours drive that is known for handmade glass ornaments. It was a really tough decision given the selection available but we (being non traditional) chose clear, shiny black, clear w gold tinsel inside and a matte black w hand finished gold accents.

Our tree is on top of a table in the corner of our tiny living room. It works best that way space wise and toddler wise :)

The angel is quite oversized but I don't care. This is the first tree I've put up since my dad died in 2008 and our first with the kids. So it could be a Charlie Brown tree and I wouldn't mind. oh and I am getting a tree skirt this week (discovered I purged the old one my mom made me when I moved to Mexico)

Oh and this was my first real tree. Almost 40 years old and always had fake. Such a fun outing as a family. Adding a pic of us loaded up bringing it home (yeah that's a tree on top of a Mini). Please excuse my outfit and lack of makeup. Been a long week with lots of travel.

Fun thread!

There are some great scheme here. It is fun to see them all - thanks Carla for the thread.

My Christmas tree is a little prettier than the photo shows - a mix of home made and gifted decorations, or ones bought at special times (there is one from Chile, one from Russia, several from my good friend in Norway, one from Disneyland, lots from my Mum etc). I buy a real tree each year.

Aside from that I do a felted wool Nativity scene and this year added the dove streamer.

Your decorations are very tasteful, Carla. The colours really complement the brickwork and hardware of your home.
I tend to be quite traditional - red and gold, gold and white, or a mix of red, green and white, and I like simple white lights and candles. I also like to use natural foliage from the garden as much as possible.

No special color scheme here.I decorated a leafless 20-foot tree in the front yard yesterday with a bazillion lights and ornaments, and hung a nice lighted green wreath on the front door. I'm afraid it won't get noticed, though -- the people next door have gone all-out. You can probably see their yard from outer space! Tonight, my SO and I will decorate the tree inside, while sipping on some good cheer. Pictures will be posted tomorrow, probably. Too busy having fun today!

Wow! Impressive stuff.
After my mom died 13 years ago, I decided to get the most non traditional tree I could find. I got a Barbie pink artificial tree from Target. It's only about three feet tall. I got bubble lights & pinky red & silver bead garland. When it's lit up it's actually quite nice. The plastic on the tree is getting brittle so I should probably replace it.

Angie - very cool, and unexpected! I love how it works against the red fireplace walls, and still allows you to see your black/white artwork. Really neat.

Rachy- a girl after my own heart! Black tree decor!! I love it.

Echo - I love your skinny trees. I bought a real one last year - the skinniest one I could find - and it works so well in tiny corners. I've always loved the idea of several trees in the house, but haven't done that myself.

Carla - really nice outdoor decor! Looks very Ontario to me ;)

Holiday decorating! I can't resist participating in this discussion - it's my favourite thing to do and I love decorating and setting up the house for the holidays even more than I love clothes Sorry in advance for bombarding with pictures - but this is my hobby and real love. Clothes - pfff. ;)

We don't put our tree up until closer to Christmas (probably a week before - we usually have a real tree) and having an old house with no outdoor electrical receptacles means no lights adorn the outside. I hang vertical star string lights from IKEA across the living room windows which gives a pretty effect from the street, and inside the house too.

This year I've done the dining and living rooms in white, silver, and greenery - and this weekend I'll be adding a few more traditional Christmas pieces with some red in them to the mix . The skull sketch will come down now and be replaced by a framed holiday needlework piece my mom did several years ago. I have two glass art and glassware display cabinets that get loaded up with Christmas decor pieces I collect - I like mixing them in with my glassware - and I add some spot lighting inside the cabinets as well at this time of year. Photos 1,2,5,6,7,

I just redecorated the den/tv room and decided to have some fun with non-traditional colours for the holidays which work well with the new furniture I have bought. Teal metallic little tree, diamante skulls, crazy peacock blue/green/gold balls in a silver bowl etc. Metallic and fur pillows/fur throw etc. Photos 3/4

The tree itself is a big mashup - the only thing in the house that doesn't really stick to a theme It's a family tree after-all, so my husband's hockey stick decoration and DD's kid decoration gifts from over the years all get stuck in there despite my efforts to maintain control ;)

You guys have your trees up already?!!! Your trees and decorations are so lovely.

We have thought about buying a tree this weekend, but that is all. Our colors are red and green. If ever there is a choice of ornament color, I always choose red. Our ornaments are mostly old, collected over the years. Quite a few are handmade by me or other family members.

The last several years we haven't put up a tree or any decorations. We're always visiting family at Christmas and our son was overseas, so what was the point? But this year, he and his girlfriend will be visiting, so we're going all out!

ETA: Our tree colors aren't silver and blue, but those are my personal colors (along with olive).

Beautiful tree, Rachy. The ribbon is wonderful - I should try mine vertically instead of horizontally like garland sometime.

And Angie, I LOVE your tree! It is so very you - minimal yet warm and inviting at the same time. I especially adore very slim trees. My mum has two "alpine" trees that are incredibly slim and I would love to be able to find trees like hers. But DH likes the more traditional look, so I can't go too slim, especially with the main tree.

Carla, your decorations look wonderfully woody and classic.

Echo, white trees are nice and different. I like the peacock decorations.

Rachy, black ribbon looks theatrical - like you!

Our tree is avant-garde. Metal and modern. Our front door is ladybug red, so we have built-in Xmas decorations year round. We put gigantic orange pumpkins next to the red door and keep them there till Jan because I love the colour mix. For the rest of the house, it's white candles and poinsettias all the way. That works well with the lime green accents we have in our home year round.

No elegant color-scheme here. Our new house is very earth-tone. Decorating is not a big priority this year, but I am making a pair of stockings with penguins on them--- the partner loves penguins and evergreen and lights so I'm sure that will be the theme most years since he already has a small collection of penguin items we can pull out. We are going to "fake" a mantle, put up a couple strings of lights, and decorate the big mirror and buffet in our dining room with penguins.

Those are absolutely beautiful - understated and elegant.

Because we live a long way off any main road, we do not do much in terms of outdoor decorations. However, I put up three trees in the house - a topiary tree decorated primarily with white birds in the entryway/laundry room (a mud room for those familiar with old farm houses); a white tree decorated in a peacock theme in the kitchen; and a traditional slim tree decorated in red and gold (again, primarily a bird theme).

I've had a couple of years where red and purple and gold featured, and then silver and gold. Recently it has been acid green, olive green, and gold with christal. Always lots of fresh/natural greenery.

I'm adjusting to a new house and tonal greens and gold from my old collections is working. Oddly, I am wearing pale blue, cream, and winter white out!
