Sally, it was quite warm today, although it rained, and I'm in short sleeves tonight. The temp gauge in the bedroom says 25 degrees. Last night it was 22.

It looks like you will be in for some nice warm weather and I might finally be able to pack away my uggs.

I'm excited for you : ) You have some great tips above, and I agree with Lucy that you will probably find it quite warm and maybe just need a light jacket in the evening. You'll probably be coldest on the plane.
Five pairs of shoes is sensible! I stash things in the kids' bags as they get the same baggage allowance and only need 3 outfits and joggers and thongs ( sorry, jandals)
Enjoy your morning runs along the beach. Can't wait to see the holiday photos, too.

One tip, I tend to wear my joggers when I travel. Not always the most fashionable choice but they are usually the heaviest and largest pair of shoes in my bag unless for some reason I am carrying a pair of booties. My joggers have mesh uppers so are comfy on an airplane or car, and the laces can be loosened, also a plus for long trips. I also find my joggers to be my most comfortable walking shoes. I run marathons in them, so walking all day in them is also easy. I keep two pairs. One for running, and one on deck that stays fairly clean. It's the clean pair that's used for travel. Enjoy your Holoday!!

My experience with theme parks that are water based (not sure if you're including them) is that I can get quite cold, even on quite hot days, if I'm wet. So I think your inclusion of a gear jacket is a good idea.

Hello from Brisbane! For locals it will still be cool at night, but I'm not sure you will find it so
The top temps last a long time in Queensland, i.e. if it says 26, it will be quite warm by 9am, and this will last through until about 6pm when it starts to cool off. This is quite different to my home town of Sydney, where the top temp was for a relatively short period. It is always lovely on the Gold Coast, never too hot or too cool, because of the sea breezes.
I have not needed anything wool in the 18 months I have lived here, so I'd be surprised if you need a merino jacket. The only time I wear wool is when I go home to Sydney! A denim weight jacket might be good, and can double as sun protection, which is a major thing to consider at theme parks.
The rest of it looks great. You will have a fabulous time!

Thanks Jane! I have two pairs of pants - one black "nice" joggers and one pair of light weight harems - it surely can bucket down in Queensland I know. Weather forecast is good right now - I hope!!

I am hoping to leave a small amount of space for some shopping - I hope to get a swimsuit, a long sleeve lightweight top.

Thanks Joy - good tip!

Suz - I am going to go with five pairs of shoes, because I know we will do a lot of walking and I need happy feet, and then I also want stylish feet too :)

BJ1111 - haha I forget holiday means different things to different people. I guess vacation is the American term. Thanks for the validation on the shoes. Flying but internationally so a decent allowance. I am taking two sets of swimming togs and hope to buy one there! I have currently a snakeskin bandeau style one piece and a navy blue pair of Speedo style racers - not that I race.

Coco- thanks for the local advice. I suspect it will feel warmer to me than to you, but I will make sure I have sleeves for the evening activities. I do have white pants - I will try them on - I go in cycles. I have added a white striped tee though.

Thanks Angie, I think I am almost there now!

It's not that hot here at the moment. I'm in short sleeves during the day and a light jacket or long sleeves at night. I'm still wearing jeans by day. Unless the weather changes dramatically, you will need sleeves or a jacket for evenings.

Your footwear choices are great. You will need something casual for the pool and beach, a bit of sparkle for the Gold Coast..lol..and the sandal boots will be good for cooler evenings.

I would add a pair of white or light jeans and a white tee. Those were the two things I regretted not packing on the river cruise. Alternatively I can show you where I buy my $15 jeans.

Whew...when the title said holiday, I immediately flashed to Christmas and had an "it's too early moment."

Flying or driving? Your intercity planes have the most restrictive baggage policies.

Good call on adding the striped top, thought this was a bit thin for the number of bottoms. Also good call to remove the dress...if you really need one, you can pick up something.

How about another swim cossie to alternate while the other dries. Nothing less pleasant than donning damps swimmers.

The outfits you outlined sounded really fun and easy. I would add another sandal myself. But like Suz, I pack around footwear. Not uncommon for me to bring 5 pairs for a 3day weekend, plus runners.

I completely understand the footwear issues. But I always bring what some travellers consider a ridiculous number of shoes, and I swear on my well trod soles that it's a good idea.

It's amazing how many pairs of shoes one can squeeze into a carry on. Of course it does limit the number of clothes then.... ;)

In all seriousness, the gear shoes often take up the most room. It's frustrating, but if you are going to exercise, you'll need them. Last year I made a mistake; instead of taking my ordinary runners, I brought -- to save space --- a very low profile style which, while I had worn them many times and run in them -- I hadn't worn for longer runs (and then I went for longer runs on the trip) and I hadn't worn on such hard pavement. That's how I got plantar fasciitis. So if you are planning to run, absolutely bring those gear shoes!! I don't want you suffering my sad fate.

Back to the issue at hand, bring all the shoes you can fit.

The gear jacket sounds like a good swap for the sweater.

Hard to say about the rest, but I think your intuitions are likely to be right.

Your packing changes make sense. To keep my feet warmer on planes, I put my carry-on under the seat in front of me and rest my feet on top of it. My feet don't touch the floor when seated anyway, so having a foot rest is more comfortable and they stay above the cold floor.

Thanks Brooklyn...I need the running shoes for morning runs (to counteract the eating out) but they are very non-fashion for sure. I could get away without the white sneakers maybe but I had planned to wear them on the plane when my feet often get cold:) I am hopeless with footwear - I can't seem to reduce in this area especially when I know I will be on my feet a lot.

I pulled out the chevron dress - I decided that I'm not taking the right footwear for it... And I also removed the navy sweater. I could take the black dress - I do wear it casually and I really like it. And it could be good for the plane too if needed.

For night time I either have:

- navy silky tee and maxi skirt and sandal boots (olive jacket if needed)
- white tank and maxi skirt and sandal boots (olive jacket if needed)
- black joggers and a knit tank and sandal boots (or white sneakers) (olive jacket if needed)

We will be pretty casual mostly - we have eight children as part of the group ranging from 2-14 (mine are the two oldest), five of us in our 40s, and my parents in their 70s.

I have also added a white lightweight gear jacket that is showerproof and windproof just in case for theme park days!!

Do you need both the running shoes and the sneakers? I would try to make one pair do for both purposes.
I vote another pair of shorts.
I went to Noosa in November of last year and it was cooler in the evenings than I expected, especially when eating outdoors. I found I did need a lightweight topper for evenings (but not for daytime). If the chevron dress has no topper I would be tempted to leave it behind. Although dresses don't take up much room, so that could be a false economy. What about your bell sleeve witchery dress for evenings? Too dressy? I think that would look nice with the sandals and the sleeves would give a little warmth at night, especially if you plan to eat outdoors.

Yes Gold Coast! I have one pair nice shorts and one pair of running shorts included. And I forgot a striped tee that is in the wash! I think I will leave out the navy sweater and the dress- and consider one more pair of shorts. Everything is lightweight and I have three good walking shoe options here. Five pairs seems a lot but I need runners, walking shoes for theme parks, pool jandals and dressy sandals as a minimum.

Are you going to the Gold Coast? Are you going to take some shorts? Make sure your pants are really light weight as it doesn't get cool apart from evening. I would take minimum toppers and as little shoes as you can get away with.
I went in April for a wedding which was fall there. I wore my summer dresses and denim shorts most of the time. Perhaps the chevron dress could be worn in the evening. I just put a jacket or Cardigan on in the evening.....but if you're only staying in one place you can take more. I also got a cheap flight so had to fit everything in hand luggage or take space in my mums bag. My sister went down to the Gold coast last week and everyone was in shorts and nz summer gear. Sorry this reply is all over the place. Actually main thing is really good walking shoes and lightweight clothes...minimum toppers for evening.

Other - jewelry layering tees socks underwear etc ( not shown)

I am hoping to maybe buy a new swimsuit, long sleeve cotton top and maybe sandals and pants on holiday, but I am not a great holiday shopper.

Thoughts - do I replace either the red merino or olive jacket for a gear top for walks? Do I replace the chevron dress for a floral summer dress? I love this chevron dress but I don't have a topper nor maybe the right shoes for it - I could take black sandals too but five pairs of shoes seems overkill? Do I need another top, jeans or pair of shorts?

We will have two- three days at theme parks, I will do lots of walking- water activities, a small amount of shopping, and some casual dining out.

Thanks in advance!
