I know. It's tough, though, isn't it. I have still having pangs about that Lanai. Almost but not quite good enough. I do think that unless it's a case of literally not being able to put appropriate outfits for important occasions together at all, it's better to hold out for what you really want. Obviously if you are MOTG and you need a dress...well...you need a dress! Even if it is not perfect. (Luckily, yours was). But if you have at least one jacket...you can make some outfits with that. I have my one jacquard jacket, a denim jacket, and two leathers....and just making do with those is an important exercise.

cciele, Suz, I guess I should learn to listen more for the pitter.

I think I'm on a learning curve for this wardrobe vacuum thing.
Suz, I also got rid of a lot of jackets. Summer I did okay because I had some good luck with previous summer jackets, still usable. Less formal and easier to style, it seems.
This fall I did more tossing out of things I thought I'd never live without, and I need to remember I still have plenty to wear, even in winter--sweaters with outerwear coats and scarves. For casual outings, I can focus on pants that that go with my brown leather jacket or tweed boxy jacket (both warm), or layer under more, or take a cozy wrap to use when coat is off. These are all things that would actually be more stylish than the wrong blazer.

So I need to just wait.

#1 seems good for the purpose. I would take #2 back. A note of comparison. This season I have returned:

1. Lanai blazer
2. Zara pink blazer
3. Black tux jacket, BR
4. Blue suit jacket, BR

I have also passed over countless others that I tried on in the store.

Oh -- and I purged:

1. Black vintage jacket
2. Tweed 9 West jacket
3. Houndstooth wool jacket
4. Off white wool jacket
5. Fuchsia knit shrunken jacket

So....I also have a big gap there. And I am playing PPP and just. waiting.

I know what you mean. It's hard. I've been on the lookout for a non-black not overly conservative blazer/jacket for a couple of years. Nothing has knocked my socks off. I thought I had found *it* in a moto style Vince Camuto black and white tweedy jacket -- but the armholes were cut too small for me. I did buy a blue and black tweedy sweater jacket at NAS, however, but I don't think the neckline would work for you. On the Nordstrom site, St. John and Classiques Entier have a number of non-black jackets. I have no idea how their respective fits run since I rarely try non-petite sizes, and they only make regular misses sizes.

Unfrumped, I think trying this jacket on with your other clothing will clarify things for you. The old "does it play nicely with the other children?" Also how does it make you feel? I remember when I bought the black gibson riding jacket, it just looked fabulous over everything and although it was not an expensive jacket in cost, it made everything look better because it had that magical fit of plumb - everything hitting in exactly the right place and showing my figure off to it's best advantage. If you are looking for a single blazer it's worth waiting for this magic. It's hard to make out details from the photo, so I need to leave that to you. Detail on the jacket would not bother me if you felt fab and it went with everything. I know who stressful a wardrobe hole is and how the impulse is to fill it asap. Just take that deep breath, have a hot cup of tea, long hot shower and then put on your favorite pants/skirt/dress. Slip the jacket on. You'll know - it will either be a wow, or going back. Good luck!!

Parsley, that's it, and you know in the fitting room I said, fine, and then at home, taking pics, it looks frumpy to me. And I could "settle" or do a hole-filler with some kind of less expensive fun jacket, I think--I have an Olivia Moon knit blazer that worked well during the summer--but this one is not doesn't fall into that category.

I have let go of a lot of jackets this year, which means my safety net is loosening, but reviewing these photos may help me to see how to use that to let something really good come in, rather than fill the void.

I'd have to vote no, honestly, partly because of the ruffle.
Also, you've said that you don't want another black jacket. In that case I think you should keep looking until you find one that's just what you want, not one that you're saying "I can live with that".
Don't settle! There's a better one out there for you.

Ceit, I'm good with #1 because I really got a lot of use out of a similar 3/4 sleeve jacket, but in cooler weather I really want my arms covered. So it works for grab &go and not expected to be a formal "blazer".

I'm conflicted over #2 because it's quite easy to wear, but I'm not sure it projects what I think I'm projecting when I'm wearing it, if that makes sense! It might help if I try it on with a lot more bottoms and see what is the range of happy factor with different proportions.

I had sworn off black blazers or jackets but have not yet found other options despite looking for (and ordering/returning) various colors in leather, other fabrics. And I’ve been finding it a kind of wardrobe hole even though I don’t need a true blazer or jacket every day. it’s difficult to match a jacket to varied bottoms—black is just so universal.

I haven’t found my alternative color yet. Haven’t found a good fit, or what I think looks good, in several blazer types. I am feeling that most all blazers look dowdy with my other tailored items but I may just not have found “my” brand. Knit motos have great color & texture options but are not made for my shape; leather in some style is still an option but hard to find, as most seem to “wear me”, so haven’t found my “Rae jacket”.

I recently brought home a black leather jacket from WHBM. It was a good fit for me, not bulky, was short-ish but not cropped, and with some waist fitting, but I decided I would get tired of the ruffled lapels, and that black leather was just too harsh for the investment.

So I returned it and then came home with 2 more black jackets!

#1 is kind of a glorified windbreaker ( rayon-y with knit panel) but it’s a great weight for indoors & layering and is good with skirts—gives a more off-beat vibe. So I’m going to keep as kind of a sporty cardigan-alternative.

#2 -4 is a ponte blazer. Now seeing Angie's Net-a-Porter outfit , and also gryffin ‘s post on "mistakes"—if I cut the tags I might immediately say, what was I thinking?

I like it when I put it on, because the slight fitted structure doesn’t overwhelm me, the ponte fabric is stretchy and layers over several sweater weights, and thedouble-row buttons seems to add balance. Kind of a “jacket” and not a blazer. But one lapel is a ruffle (I thought I could live with that) and for sure this is not the “trending” long straight blazer shown in Angie’s post today. It does have the advantage of working with both pants and skirts.

When I am in WHBM I like some of their things, but then once outside it’s all so identifiable. Then I have an idea of how I want a jacket to look, but so far all the ones I've tried, even ones that are working for other people, have not worked. Unless there is some shaping, it is hard to fit at both the shoulder and the hip

So, is my jacket desperation at play here, and this style is nowheres-ville? Or could fit into the jacket capsule.

I am stumped on what to try, even as to ordering. But maybe should be more patient.
