You have had good advice. I would sell the bag and look for something in a smaller size for weekends or other outings. The sweater - if you really like it I would put up with the hassle - but I am not sure that you do. My more ornate sweater has not had much wear this year either - maybe twice? I might wear it today though now I think about it:)

I love Furla bags but can not be doing with the fuss! Agree, pass on. The jumper is beautiful, but again the fuss!

`Well done for swapping around. You are spurring me on!

I don't have a holding zone - no room in our compact loft apartment....

But back to yours. Pass both items on. Form must follow function, and neither are practical enough at this point. They are bossing you around. How dare they!

Thanks Star, Suntiger and Cindysmith! Great tip about the vodka, unfortunately I don't drink. I think supermarkets sell small bottles, will check if I can get it and test! I already wear a thin layer under the sweater and let it air before storage... I stay well clear of red sauces when I wear it (lesson learnt!).

A friend also suggested steaming, I will try to read about it. Has anybody tried it?

I think it is time to say goodbye to the bag and move on!

Yes, Cindysmith, good point about a thin base layer under jumpers and airing after wearing. I only figured this out last winter (after 4 very cold Black Sea winters) and I really did not have to launder the jumpers that often at all.

I agree that you could probably sell the bag without regrets. As for the jumper, there are ways around laundering if that's the thing keeping you from wearing it. It's very pretty, and sweaters can be easy to care for; as long as I don't get stains on them, I find mine to be the EASIEST in my wardrobe.

* Wear a thin base layer beneath it. My skin gets very dry in cooler weather, and my base layer keeps the dry skin away from the sweater. Wearing the base layer keeps all those tiny bits of skin and dirt from transferring to the jumper
* wear the underarm protectors that keep the deodorant from getting on the clothes
* learned this one the hard way: don't wear jewelry that could snag the yarn. I've had bracelets and rings do numbers on my sweaters and even t-shirt knit type fabric.
* another lesson learned the hard way: don't drink coffee in light colored fabrics
* air the sweater out after wearing it, before you put it away. There are a lot of little hacks like this floating around on the interwebz, I got some screen shots and a link for you. As a former stagehand, I can confirm that vodka seems to be a staple supply for the wardrobe department of theatrical tours. I can't tell you how many kids shows I worked that involved Big Bird/Nemo/muppet costumes that leave the performers sweating from lack of air circulation, and those costumes stank less than the regular clothes costumes of touring Broadway shows.
To answer your question about finding new items for the holding zone, I have to say I've had quite the opposite happen. I ran across a purple Celine cardigan in my holding zone that I snatched right out to use this winter.

Agreeing with Star. All my winter and most of my summer things that fit are in my closet. There are definitely some I'm not sure about, but I'm not going to buy any workwear now as I'm likely to get laid off (and will drastically change careers if I do).

The fact that you were always unhappy with the inner compartment of the bag indicates it could be a good idea to sell it, as you probably won't regret it. As for the jersey I am not sure. I have learned to consider if embellishments on clothes are going be problematic when laundering. I have not done my seasonal swap yet.

hi everyone,

Hope you are all keeping safe and well!

Autumn has arrived, and I completed my seasonal change. Normally, I am happy to see some old pieces and look forward using them
again and again ... this time I felt a bit "meh" with a bag and a
jumper.

So, I guess this is an holding zone discussion... and would love to hear your
thoughts!

The bag is a classic Furla bag, I used it once or twice a week when
I was working in an office. Outside it is beautiful, inside it is a nightmare
as it has an inner compartment in the middle, which limits what I can
carry. I already have a large black and grey bag, I am not sure if I need
another bag in this size and wonder if I should sell it and then replace it
with a smaller version, which would work better with my current lifestyle. I am
not sure if this is something that I would regret once the current situation
with the Covid is done... not sure when!

The jumper was an impulse buy. Loved at first sight, I love pearls and there are quite a
few in this jumper! For some reasons, I haven't used it very often. I don't
know if it is the fit or if this is due to the fact that I always worry about
damaging it when washing it. It is also quite a thick jumper and it takes ages
to dry in the wintertime.

How about you, have you discovered new items for the holding zone since doing
the seasonal change?
