Thank you all. Liz, I'm usually pretty considered and I think for me the signal is that I haven't really missed the stuff in the last 6 weeks or so.

So, I've narrowed it down.

Saved four tops, all summer. Thank you rachylou and Cynthia.

Dads shirt is saved for jam pot covers (which my mum will like!).

There's still a couple of bags to go but I feel better and lighter so far. Thank you Angie, and dabblers, clear guidance is great.

I vote pass it on. 6 bags in the holding is a LOT.

I tend to get carried away with decluttering and clearing out, so I will be another vote for rachylou's approach. Wait on the warm-weather clothing decision if you can; free your closet of the winter stuff that isn't working for you any more.

The white cords sound great -- a lot more fun than black/dark colors, but keep your legs warm in February!

What rachylou said. I've had to buy so many base layers in such a hurry that it's ridiculous. Try the seasonal approach

I'd go by what kind of person you are ... are you prone to sudden rash actions that you then regret? Or do you usually take a thoughtful approach and do things for good reasons?

I'm always in favor of clearing things away, so I'd so go ahead and let go, and not be too concerned about the potential for regrets or what if's. Usually if an item goes and you really do end up needing it, you can find a way to get something that fills that gap.

Regarding your father's shirt .... I try not to attach too much meaning to objects, because I have very little storage space. So I might want a few objects that remind me of my father, but I wouldn't keep lots of stuff that reminded me of him.

Rachylou - wise approach - I will check

Summer - also very wise on the sentimentality around the shirt - I've very little storage space. Mmm...thinking!

If your remaining wardrobe is in a good place, I think you could let go of the holding zone items now. If you feel you are not quite ready, maybe you could wait another few months. BUT, please think carefully about your father's shirt: there's no harm in keeping sentimental items, just as long as you have the storage space.

I'd go by season - let go of the in-season things you're not reaching for. 'Cuz personally I'm guilty of tossing things I'm not wearing right now and forgetting that it's because of the weather.

I would be very grateful for your views on my holding zone. I had a sort out of my wardrobe 6 weeks ago. I put 6 or so bags of clothing in our spare room and haven't needed to go back to them. I have enjoyed the additional space in my wardrobe. I don't think I have missed the clothing in the holding zone.

The additional space in my head and in my wardrobe has given me confidence to extend my wardrobe to include Angie's white bootees and also an additional pair of white cords.

How long do I need to keep items in the holding zone? There are two items I was going to retrieve - my fathers checked shirt, for sentimental reasons, and a scarf I knitted (took me ages! and I have just simply worn it too much to wear it any time soon!).

I'm short on space and my inclination is to simply be radical.

I'd really appreciate any thoughts that you may have. Thank you for reading.
