I've struggled with hip dips for so long.
I work out and eat healthy for over 5 years now, but those dips were just getting deeper and deeper as time passed by.
I literally obsessed myself with them, until one day I ran into an article explaining every single detail about them.
I realized that it's all about the body and bone structure and we shouldn't worry about them because it's perfectly normal to have them and we usually can't do anything about it because that's how anatomy works.

We obsess so much about the flaws that we often can't see how beautiful we really are.
Hugs to y'all :)

PS: Here's the article http://fitgirlsdiary.com/can-w.....have-them/

I am very glad you posted this link! I have this hip line, but never really understood what I was seeing the mirror - I simply saw my hip line as "fat" or "wide". But not consistently - sometimes my shape looked 'heavy' to my eye, and sometimes it didn't. I never quite understood how, even at my lowest weight and with the workouts I do, my line wasn't really changing. This article set that little monster in my mind to rest. Thank again for posting

Thanks, minimalist. It’s starting to have problems with my hips, and am now doing exercises to target them, but nit to change their appearance.

What Sisi said! On women who have them, to me it looks like just another variation on curves.

BC, if you want to get really technical, a hip dip is anatomically known as the "trochanteric depression."

When a hip dip indicates underdeveloped gluteus medius, it's worth considering exercises to strengthen those muscles. (Not for optical reasons!) The gluteus medius is integral to hip function, controls pelvic sway, is involved with leg movements like moving leg out to side, and aids in stabilizing the femoral head in the hip socket.

Here are some exercises targeting them:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=N0x1YHcmblI
Strengthening relevant muscles is NOT guaranteed to reduce hip dips visually! That depends largely on skeletal anatomy.

I don't see any reason to make clothing choices to minimize a perfectly lovely body feature.

I have had it since teenage even when I was really slim. I used to wish the gap would just fill up to be smoother! Already learned how to dress to minimise it some time back. But a good article, thanks BC!

I agree with The Cat.

I’ve seen this before; I have a long rise and have had “hip dips” or “violin hips” (or a cello maybe?) at every size/weight.

And if I’d known it was just my skeletal structure as a teenager-with these visuals-I would have saved myself a lot of grief.

I have this body shape too, and for the longest time I thought I was a freak! I used to think I just had a lot of excess fat in my hips, but even at my slimmest (when I was having severe digestive issues and was quite underweight), I still had clear "shelf" hips...so I knew it was my skeletal structure. I was relieved to find out that this is a real body shape. But it's not talked about too much.

Actually, in this instance, while the "violin hips" label is irritating, this piece made me more comfortable with myself rather than the reverse because I have this kind of hip line and had no idea it was common enough for anyone to write about it.
