Joy - I agree contoured belts, nice ones are very difficult to locate. I've never found another one. Your outfit was fabulous. I can't wait to see what else you come up with!!

I have a couple contoured hip belts and like them, but they can be hard to find. In my WIW the belt is at my natural waist but the blazer is shorter. I need to look for some new belts. I like the hardware on yours.

Janet - I don't measure out short waisted but I always feel like I am, either that of I love a long torso which I do. Plus I do have long legs. Hip belts are my friend but I never thought to do this with a jacket. Interesting!!
Lisa - exactly that. Also the belt is black so it blends with the jacket and the buckle dips slightly to form a v - so instead of emphasizing my straight waist it makes me look slim and lithe. My favorite trick. Old DKNY belt found at Saks years ago and it is the mother of all belts. The one belt to rule them all!!
Deborah - you know your own body best. I think the lesson for me was belt at the point that is most flattering to you!
Joy - I did not get a chance to see your outfit. I'm sure it's fab, you have amazing style and always look marvelous. I will scoot over to check. One think about hip belts, mine is contoured, so it lies totally flat. Is yours the same? I have never been able to get a smooth line at the hip with no migration with a straight belt. That's been important for me. Off to see.....;-)

I also like this idea. My natural waist is high so I also prefer midrise to lengthen the torso. Thank you for posting this. Let us know how it goes tomorrow. FWIW, my wide belt over blazer did not slide around and stayed put all day.

I like this idea a lot. However it I am going to belt a jacket my figure dictates that I belt at my waist.

I like this idea - the weight of the buckle keeps the belt hanging down a bit, correct? I remember having belts like this years ago, and got off that whole look. Kind of wish I had kept some of them .

Interesting. I could see this working on someone with a short waist/torso.

No Smittie but the Theory Marcela is a very tapered blazer and the fabric very smooth. The hip belt is contoured and the buckle is weighty so it does not shift.

Interesting. So so hard to picture though. Are you doing up the buttons of the blazer?

Okay, I was cogitating over todays post. I have tried the EA trick of belting a blazer at the natural waist in the past and I did not find it as pleasing on me as it looks on her. However, that made me realize I never belt at my natural waist. I prefer hip belts, just as I prefer midrise jeans with belts to lengthen my torso. Anyway, fwiw, I just popped on my Theory Marcela jacket (a long 33" blazer) over a column of black (of course) and added a hip belt and, although it is a different look than the post, I found it very flattering and the jacket does not bunch or move around and it was totally comfortable and not fussy. I'm going to road test it tomorrow and see how it does. But maybe this style will work for others if they work with a belt at their most flattering point which, for some of us, may not be the natural waist. Just a thought.
