My favorite pair of recently-purchased jeans are high-waist skinnies, and I'm 50.

Mine are extremely comfortable and stretchy, from Guess. I sized up twice, to keep them from being painted-on tight. I love them with tops that skim the top of the thigh. Not quite full tunic length, but enough coverage that I don't feel I'm wearing leggings as pants.

I rarely wear heels, so I do wear mine with flats; loafers, ballet flats, slipper flats, and d'Orsay flats. Also wore them with high boots when it was still cold out.

No - you're not too old to wear skinny jeans. But I do have some reservations about this particular pair. Do you have enough leg length for them to scrunch at the ankles? It is really difficult to see details in the pic because of the dark color - but, I'm wondering if you are thinking you'd wear these as "regular" skinnies or as "slouchy" skinnies? If regular skinnies - I'd go with tunic tops and a short heel. If slouchy skinnies, then I think that a shorter top (cropped) or a semi-tuck top - and flat shoes would work.

ETA: Oops - just realized that the waist on these are just too high for a semi- or faux- tuck top. I think these are strictly jeans to be worn with a tunic top - but I would still want some scrunch at the ankles and a small-heeled shoe!

Skinnies are my FFBO and I am older than you are. I wear mine with fluid (or oversized) knitwear/tunics/blouses. Unless you wear them with midriff baring super cropped top .... Now that would be twee :)

And you can absolutely wear flats with them, it all depends on the proportions up top.

You're certainly not "too old" for those jeans. I will say this, though: I think high-waisted jeans always make one's bottom look longer and flatter than it is. Always. The only way to wear high-waisted jeans without appearing to have a long bottom is with a top that covers the waist of the jeans, which kind of defeats the purpose of the high-waisted jeans. However, if they are comfy, maybe it's worth it.

I don't think they look "too old." I would just say that you might want to pair these with a longer, untucked top, because the waist is so high on the pants. That can have a torso-shortening effect. Wearing an untucked top will extend the appearance of your torso.

Agree the top will set the tone, but I think they look good and 31 is not too old for skinny jeans

I agree with Dee and IK. It's how you style them that can make them look too young. I'd put them with a tunic or longer top. I think they'd work great with riding boots as well.

I think a longer flowy top would look very current with them. I personally like the higher wait on my skinny's because it does away with my muffin top.

If you're showing the top of the pants with cropped tops, they might veer younger. If you're styling them the way you would any other skinny pants, with longer or fluid tops, you're probably fine. I'm also turning 31 this month and would probably wear them similar to how I would leggings or skinny jeans. And do you wear heels often enough to make them worthwhile?

I picked these up today and am seriously thinking of returning. They do fit well, and have enough stretch to be comfy, but enough substance that they're not legging-like at all. Kind of a twill/denim/stretch thing going on. It's the style I'm uncertain of, is it too young? (I'm turning 31 this month) Is it not right for my body? And while they look alright with the pointy heels on, I feel like they'd make me look short/dumpy in flats or sandals. And how would I style the top? HALP!!!! ;)
