I do have the perfect shirt then! I silk Bebe blouse with ruffles half way down the front and darts to nip it in a bit. It's at the dry cleaners now so I can't try it with the skirt now. I'm excited! Angie, what do you think about me being slightly short waisted. Do you think that's my main problem with this look. I should take a picture of myself shouldn't I?

Shannon, a dressier blouse looks great with a worn denim pencil skirt. In fact I wore this yesterday. Skirts need simple shorter tops that are waist cinching. This is the key. Try belting a longer top with a waist cinching top too.

Thanks guys! The skirt is not ultra high waisted, just right at the waist. I am trying to determine if I am proportioned or have a short torso. I think I fall somewhere in between those two if that makes sense. Maybe that's why I feel weird with something tucked in, even though I love the way the skirt fits everywhere else. I will play around with some looks you guys suggested tonight. I am bound to find something that works. Guess I won't wear it again today though. Thanks again!

Is it an ultra high waist skirt, or something like belly button level?

I think you can wear shirts untucked, but they need to be a bit shorter and more fitted, similar to ones you'd wear with a denim A-line skirt or wear longer shirts belted at the waist to keep the "hourglass" shape you achieve with the pencil skirt going. Keep in mind if you do this, you lose the "high waist" effect, because you're covering it up with a shirt. You could also try a tucked in cami, with a longer cardigan left open over that, and belted at the waist (depending on how high the waist is on the skirt). That might look sharp with the right cardi. If you are tall and have long legs I think wearing dressier flats with it would be fine. Maybe some other people have suggestions as well.

I have a denim pencil skirt and I tried wearing a tucked in shirt with a cropped cardigan, and I just felt like a librarian. I think some people can pull the look off, but I definitely couldn't.

If it's an ultra high waist, (coming up almost to your chest) then the best way to wear it is shirts tucked in.

Hmm, how about tucking in some knit top or a more casual shirt? I think the high waist does call for tucking. You could wear some low wedges instead of heels, but I don't think that completely flat flats would go.
Here are some ideas from VS:

Btw, I believe that this could be a bit more difficult look if you have short torso or larger chest.

I love my high waisted pencil skirt. I love the way it looks on me.....until I put anything with it! What should I wear with this skirt? It is a very light weight stretchy denim that has a kind of a worn look to it. It is casual so I don't want to really tuck a blouse into it, unless you think a dressy blouse would look good with a more casual skirt. I really don't even own dressy blouses. I am tall and skinny so do I have to wear heels with it all the time? Today I was going to tuck in a slimmer fitting top and wear a cropped sweater with it, but that didn't seam to work, at least I didn't think so. Please help!
