I have had good luck with the Born "Robyn" - Born often has a model for petites with a 13 inch shaft height, which hits well below the knee on me (5'1). Very similar to the "treddy" model from a few years ago. Not flat, but very, very comfortable on my feet! The circumference is listed as 10" but it fits my average sized calves fine with jeans tucked in.

I am 100% with you about most tall boots being made for taller ladies. This fall, I found a pair that wasn't too expensive and which had side buckles, allowing for some adjustment. Also, they are not too high either, so my knee is not drowned in them. They look a little like Caro's. Originally, when shopping, I really wanted the flat heels "flat" look; yet now I am super happy with these and find I reach for them first a lot.

That is so funny! I've been wildly craving a pair of tall lighter taupe or tan boots for this spring and next fall. I've the first two of these at home checking them out and the third on the way. I'm just going bonkers trying to decide which one to keep!!! One and only one can stay. Oh, and number four? That's a contender too!

The "and petites" is the important part there!!

Gals, I'm 13 inch calf circumference, with no more than 13 inch high shaft. So proportionately speaking, I'm not really a "narrow" calf - I'm average -- for someone who's leg is short enough that anything over 13 inches high is too high.

Now go plug those measurements into zappo's, and see what my choices are, and you'll understand why this is GREAT news.

Booties are wonderful too (though pose their own set of fit problems for petites), but are impractical when you have 5 feet of snow on the ground.

Living in Colorado, all I see are skinny jeans tucked into tall boots. EVERYWHERE, unless I visit Denver where everyone is trendy. And this year, I hardly wore my tall boots. Granted, I only have one pair and last winter I wore them nearly every day; I think I'm just needing a break from them.

Instead, I've worn my short booties a lot. And I even wore uggs in the snow, and then at work I popped on my ballet flats or Birkenstocks clogs just for something different.

I know booties have dominated the scene for quite a while, but I'm not ready to give mine up yet. If anything, I wouldn't mind finding a second, and maybe even third pair. (Again, only one pair. Who knew i could be so minimal?!)

Perhaps next fall I'll be ready for some tall boots. Right now I'm thinking either a wedge heel or more the 1970s sleek tall boot. They're not very practical in the snow, but anything with a flat heel feels uber casual to me.

It took so long to build up my boot wardrobe last time (my calves are 13") that I'm still enjoying wearing my tall boots with skirts and dresses this winter. My cognac pair is getting a bit worn, though. After The Great Boot Search of several years ago, I sigh at the thought of having to find a narrow calf replacement pair. Crossing my fingers that retailers remember us this time!

I'm with Jackie. Really? I have never measured my calves but absolutely have slim legs and calves in particular. The stores seemed to be full of tall boots! I have a few pair of really nice tall flat boots, and have not worn any of them ONCE this winter . My new substitute ended up being a mid-calf height moto boot that felt newer and more interesting than my taller ones.

Really? I haven't worn my tall boots much this season; it's been all about booties for so long. I don't have narrow calves, mine are pretty average. Maybe this year I'll find the perfect sleek cognac tall boot.

My shoemaker says he can take in boots that are too wide in the calf, I have not tried this yet though I did have him cut the top off a pair of over-the-knee boots that I never wore and they came out great! I think a good shoemaker can "alter" boots just the way a, dressmaker alters clothes.

Oh Angie, I *hope* you're right! I couldn't purchase a single pair of tall boots this year. Last year I scored with a pair of taupe Paul Greens with a lug sole that you recommended, because they have big adjustable buckles at the calf. My black Aquatalia riding boots are still the best boots I've ever purchased but after 3 years of heavy wear I may need to start looking for a replacement.

Caro, those boots are beautiful. I hope to replace my black tall boots with proper equestrian ones next season, too. I haven't seen any this season that I wanted.

I have a pair that are seven years old (I think) every winter I look for an update & I never see anything better than mine. I love the design of them. They have buckles at the sides that hide an extra, wedge shaped, piece of really soft leather so I can tighten the buckles when wearing them with skirt & I can loosen them for jeans. This means they haven't stretched too much over time. I don't know why more boots aren't made like this, then they would also work for wider calves.

When I was 15 or so, I saved up my paper route money and bought a pair of gorgeous dressage boots. But I never wore them. They never had a chance to break in, so they always seemed uncomfortable. And I rode at an extremely casual barn where no one showed and we all wore short jodhpur boots for lessons. My mother sold the boots when I left for college, but I wonder if I'd find a way to wear them without horses, if I still had them!

So, a couple of thoughts/ideas. I've got a 13.5" calf that measures 16" from heel to knee, and with a 6-6.5 size in most shoes have had some diffculty finding tall boots to my exact requirements. I have a full 'stable' now, including the Blondos, which I love, and which can expand if/when my calves grow. The other thing is that actual riding boots for showing are required to fit perfectly and create the longest line from knee to heel, so many folks get custom measured for them. It's been probably 30 years since I got my custom boots, but I bet you can find a local so-called 'English' riding tack store and enquire within or do a Google search. Dover Saddlery http://www.doversaddlery.com/t.....fgodTJEAmg has a guide to fitting and many examples of boots to choose from. One word of warning...true riding boots are very stiff, and you need to make sure you take your measurements sitting or you could find yourself in an awkward position (unable to sit or drive) until they are quite broken in!

I lost count of how many pairs of boots I ordered and returned this fall. Though my particular problem was finding wide calf boots that weren't too tall on my petite height. I was surprised that the calf width wasn't the biggest challenge; it was finding boots that didn't hit at an awkward spot on my knee.

I do really like the Trotters that I finally settled on, but the tumbled look of the leather will not be for everyone.

You know what? I was in the market for some new tall boots this winter after purging a few pairs of higher heeled tall boots from my closet, and I never found anything that appealed to me. And my calves are pretty average (maybe 14.5"?) so it wasn't a fit issue, but a style one. I never found any in black or cognac that appealed to me. I just feel like this was not a great year for boots (even though I did replace a couple of pairs of no-longer-comfortable booties).

May next year be a better one for all of us!

This is great news. I second your wish for boots for narrow calves.

Tall boots are on my shopping list for fall. I passed over them this year because I needed new snow boots which I never found. I so love tall boots. Now I have to decide on the colour. Dark brown, cognac or less likely black.

Aida and Tania, next year I'm going to try getting authentic equestrian boots. The ones that the professionals wear. I hope that the fit will be narrow enough for my 13 inch calves.
