I had a similar experience with a too short haircut. I had brought in a photo of what should have been easy to approximate. My hair is wavy ...but not curly as yours. So it seems my hairstylist confused my chin (the length it was supposed to be) with my earlobes...the length it turned out to be. Looked like a bobblehead. I did express disappointment as I was paying for the cut. He texted me later and apologized and said he'd give me a discount on my next haircut. It was several months later as it had to grow back out to below chin length but, of course, he forgot about his promise to discount my next haircut. I didn't feel like pressing the issue at the time. But I think I'll be looking for another hairstylist. That is never an easy road to go down either.

Like many here, I can empathize! And I do love how the unexpected cut frames your face.

Right now I'm dealing with the unexpected results of what I TOTALLY ASKED FOR and my stylist delivered. I asked for the back to be shorter, because I couldn't handle the stage it had gotten to in trying to grow it just a few inches. Well, I'm thinking now, that was a mistake! I'm look at growing it to where it was, plus the extra I had been waiting for. And my hair, being wavy/curly, grows "out" (as in, springs up and out) an inch for every half inch it grows "down" in length.

Ket I'm echoing everyone else that it looks great but I'm sorry that it doesn't feel like or look like what you were hoping that it would. that is so frustrating. it's giving me flashbacks to my '90s Rachel shag when I had just asked for a small trim LOL. hang in there as it grows out and also sometimes after a week or two a new haircut settles and it feels a lot better even though it wasn't what you wanted. Using talk to text so sorry for the random grammar!

I think it looks great! i am going through the exact same thing right now. i asked my stylist not too take off too much length because i have a family reunion next week, and here we are. i am so bummed.

so i am currently ordering some collared tops to make my hair look longer until it grows back.

I can relate, as someone with curly hair--things can go really, really wrong! And I love your shag goal (the third pic). But I agree with everyone that it definitely doesn't read Hobbit :)!

Have you tried tucking the hair on both sides behind your ears (maybe even using bobby pins or something, if it's too short to stay put)? Might make it feel less round, and give you that longer-in-the-back shag vibe you are wanting.

Bummer you don't like your haircut, but no worries, to my eye it looks lovely on you. :)

Waiting for hair to grow out is such a pain though, it's hard to be patient. I understand that all too well. I spent the past few years getting my hair repeatedly cut short (chin length to brushing top of shoulders). Every time I've gone to a salon they will recommend a short cut. I know my hair is thin and permanently seems to look like it's growing out the grey (it's not, I haven't colored in many years) but it's frustrating to repeatedly get the same style over and over.

With our hot summers and my natural wavy pattern, short hair is terrible for me, because I can't tie it back easily. Everything sticks out all over the place which means lots of clips and hair spray to keep it all flat. I haven't had a haircut since last Sept, and it's just now finally getting long enough to tie up.

I totally understand the pain of a haircut not turning out how you wanted, and how something can look good to other people but still not feel "right" to you. But honestly, I think you look really pretty in this cut. And I agree with Suz and Jaime that your son is likely just reacting to the fact that you look different. Don't cover your hair up for the baby shower, you look great!

I do sympathize! I don't think it looks bad at all but I know the feeling of being all excited for a fresh look and then coming home disappointed. My hair is wavy, nowhere near as curly as yours, but it can be a challenge for sure. If I get too many layers it just goes straight (but of course not straight enough to look good!) but not enough and I get the dreaded triangle. Lately I have been cutting it myself. I can take off just a little bit so it isn't a huge change but enough to keep it from getting overgrown. The problem is that the back is hard to get at so once in a while I go for a trim. I'm thinking of growing it out a bit so the back is easier to reach.

I agree with Janet - a few days can make a huge difference in how it feels and I bet it will grow out great. The inspiration is super cute.

You look gorgeous either way, and I don’t think the cut is bad at all, but I know how awful it can seem when it’s not what you were expecting or asking for!

The shape is a bit round at the moment but I think that will ease quickly. It takes a few washes for a new cut to sort of settle in, especially on curly/wavy hair.

The mention of Julia Ormond is timely for me. We have just finished rewatching Mad Men, and she is so fabulously gorgeous and dramatic as Megan’s mother. What a timeless beauty!

You do look beautiful. It is really flattering. Your hair looks in very good condition too. You probably a long hair person, like me. It has to be at least shoulder length to feel like myself. Your hairdresser should have known that your hair would 'jump' and taken that into account. My hair does the same the shorter I go.

I suggest no turban but show your beautiful hair with pride.
I have had some bad haircuts in the past but after the initial frustration I always took it philosophically - after all, hair grows. An old story of mine - when I cut off my hair to go grey my young daughter burst out crying. She was inconsolable. But she got over it.
Anyway, you look gorgeous.

I think it’s very pretty, and so are you! It’ll probably grow out fast…that’s my experience in warmer weather. But meanwhile maybe enjoy the challenge of styling a new look.

I’ve had bad haircuts before, and if I didn’t want to “break up” with my stylist for whatever reason, I tried to keep the cuts simple so less chance of messing it up. But my hair is very straight so I can’t imagine the added challenges of curls.

Echoing the group. You look fab with your current hair and your previous hair. It is a change and I think a good creative challenge after living with the cut for a day or so.

Can see it swing gamine like that Julia Ormond photo which has all the feels for fashion. Or bombshell like Sophia Loren faster than you can say turban.

Funny enough, everyone, I was just watching 1995 Sabrina again, and admiring Julia Ormond's haircut in it. And well, this haircut has a very 50s and 90s vibe. So here I am

Oh, thank you, Slim cat! I've always envied people with straight hair who wear. pixie so well Maybe we all need to trade hair for a day, ha! Yes, I might experiment with a turban, so stay tuned. Otherwise... might just run some texturing balm through it and make it wild and huge.
