I only wish my bad haircuts looked as good as yours. You look beautfiul but I know it feels off when the cut is not what expected. Good luck as you work on getting it to the place you want!

Bummer you don't like your haircut, but no worries, to my eye it looks lovely on you. :)

Waiting for hair to grow out is such a pain though, it's hard to be patient. I understand that all too well. I spent the past few years getting my hair repeatedly cut short (chin length to brushing top of shoulders). Every time I've gone to a salon they will recommend a short cut. I know my hair is thin and permanently seems to look like it's growing out the grey (it's not, I haven't colored in many years) but it's frustrating to repeatedly get the same style over and over.

With our hot summers and my natural wavy pattern, short hair is terrible for me, because I can't tie it back easily. Everything sticks out all over the place which means lots of clips and hair spray to keep it all flat. I haven't had a haircut since last Sept, and it's just now finally getting long enough to tie up.

I totally understand the pain of a haircut not turning out how you wanted, and how something can look good to other people but still not feel "right" to you. But honestly, I think you look really pretty in this cut. And I agree with Suz and Jaime that your son is likely just reacting to the fact that you look different. Don't cover your hair up for the baby shower, you look great!

I do sympathize! I don't think it looks bad at all but I know the feeling of being all excited for a fresh look and then coming home disappointed. My hair is wavy, nowhere near as curly as yours, but it can be a challenge for sure. If I get too many layers it just goes straight (but of course not straight enough to look good!) but not enough and I get the dreaded triangle. Lately I have been cutting it myself. I can take off just a little bit so it isn't a huge change but enough to keep it from getting overgrown. The problem is that the back is hard to get at so once in a while I go for a trim. I'm thinking of growing it out a bit so the back is easier to reach.

I agree with Janet - a few days can make a huge difference in how it feels and I bet it will grow out great. The inspiration is super cute.

You look gorgeous either way, and I don’t think the cut is bad at all, but I know how awful it can seem when it’s not what you were expecting or asking for!

The shape is a bit round at the moment but I think that will ease quickly. It takes a few washes for a new cut to sort of settle in, especially on curly/wavy hair.

The mention of Julia Ormond is timely for me. We have just finished rewatching Mad Men, and she is so fabulously gorgeous and dramatic as Megan’s mother. What a timeless beauty!

You do look beautiful. It is really flattering. Your hair looks in very good condition too. You probably a long hair person, like me. It has to be at least shoulder length to feel like myself. Your hairdresser should have known that your hair would 'jump' and taken that into account. My hair does the same the shorter I go.

Bad haircut? Not at all! I like it, you look nice! I suggest no turban but show your beautiful hair with pride.
I have had some bad haircuts in the past but after the initial frustration I always took it philosophically - after all, hair grows. Generally a couple weeks are enough for the hair to "settle".

Ket I laughed out loud at your son's reaction. Kids do not like when their mothers look differently. An old story of mine - when I cut off my hair to go grey my young daughter burst out crying. She was inconsolable. But she got over it.
Anyway, you look gorgeous. Give it at least a few days to settle into position and experiment with different styling tricks and I bet that the compliments will start pouring in.

Are you kidding? It looks great! I mean, if your kids and husband are saying something, maybe it's a little short, but the photo looks great.

I have a good short cut now, and I hide it all the time. For lack of styling. Currently under a ball cap.

My hair is a mild version of the Kiki Dee haircut....a strong shag is possibly my favorite cut. You also have a heart-shape face...I would kill for that. Can you grow it more towards this??? Like, a curly version?

I think it’s very pretty, and so are you! It’ll probably grow out fast…that’s my experience in warmer weather. But meanwhile maybe enjoy the challenge of styling a new look.

I’ve had bad haircuts before, and if I didn’t want to “break up” with my stylist for whatever reason, I tried to keep the cuts simple so less chance of messing it up. But my hair is very straight so I can’t imagine the added challenges of curls.

I love her. 3-4 years ago I tried her razor cut. Bizarrely, my curls refused to curl after the razor. So my stylist went in and dusted my ends with scissors and they suddenly curled again. My hair just doesn't like razor cuts. Good point on a new idea coming from a bad cut!

Well I think your new cut is very polished and modern , and shows off your beautiful face . The cut added definition to your curls and to my eye suits you well . A bit of growth will allow your bangs to drop down a bit . I do not see a problem at all ! Do you follow Jayne Mathews on IG ? She does exactly what you’re looking for and even has online classes you can buy to do a razor cut yourself .

And yes, I’ve had haircuts I hated but it’s always the result of some new idea I had for my hair.

Suz, thank you for your warm empathy! Curls are a challenge. I've had a lot of good haircuts from my stylist, but I guess the short shag layers was a push too far. :} I don't think the upkeep will be too bad?? My plan is to keep chopping off the very bottom layer as it gets super long and weird, while letting everything else grow out. Mostly I htink it's just going to be time and patience. Maybe as it grows out it will be better?

That is a very true point about kids and change! I didn't take his reaction to heart. But it was really funny! PS I love your silver hair <3

I ordered a blow dryer brush and will give it a whack, though part of me is wondering if that is even worth it?? Otherwise, going to try a good scarf. :)

I echo Carla and Cookie 100%.

I love the short haitcut, Ket! Looks fresh, pretty and MODERN. And HIGHLIGHTS your BEAUTIFUL FACE :)

I'm sorry it doesn't feel that, though. And too bad DS is not a fan. That does not help :(

No need don't cover your hair with a scarf or turban! No need to straighten your hair either. I suspect you'll like that less, actually. You'll see that in a month, your curls will have grown and relaxed into their "boing".

Hang in there!

Ket, first off, I can empathize. I've had bad cuts over the years...different times, different places -- but the hair does grow! I know from my curly-girl stepdaughter, though, that it can be a nightmare to grow out curls, and also, it is at least 10 times more difficult to find good stylists for curly hair. (It is also very difficult to find stylists who are good with short hair, but if your hair is short and curly, even more so!!)

Also, I quite like #2, though I realize it was not what you were aiming for and now you have a long grow out period. I hope the upkeep isn't too bad. Your son is just doing what all kids tend to do -- react negatively to a change. You would not have believed the initial protest when I decided to let my greys come in! Now, both Mr. Suz and the kiddo love it.

I think your idea for the shower could work really well and be very glam, especially if it is really hot on the day in question. Keep the hair off the face!

Carla, I love your haircuts!!! Do you have a favorite of the three?? I quit trying blow-outs myself. Several years ago I was trying them on my own and actually burned whole chunks of my hair from my head. My stylist asked me what I had been doing, and pointed out the missing chunks. I honestly didn't realize it was the self blow-outs, so told her I had no idea. Later I went duh... it's me burning my own hair! Hopefully the air dry brush thing works.

Cookie, thank you fellow curly girl. Maybe? I'm not saying it's horrific. I've never felt comfortable in this length and style of haircut, and I've tried a few times over rate last 20+ years. (This haircut wasn't meant to be like the ones I've tried before, obviously.) Hopefully as it grows out it will be a bit easier. Right now I can't even pull it back due to how short and layered it is. So that makes it tough too.

Carla, thank you! I don't abosolutely hate it, it just... went very south lol! Short hair never feels "me" despite trying it a few times. "Curly hair is an interesting challenge, and it seems to me every time you get your hair cut, you are rolling the dice!" That is so well said! I really rolled the dice this time ha. I hope your hair appointment goes well next week!! :D

Well, I really like #2!

We just started getting out warm and humid summer, and I’ve got triangle hair due to a blunt cut. I usually get layers cut in this time of year and wear it short and curly due to high humidity. Put in leave in conditioner and let it air dry.

After September, I let the layers grow out, and blow dry it straight for two reasons: I swim 3 times a week and don’t want to be restricted to hanging out at home until it dries, and I wear hats all the time, which smashes and straightens out my hair.

Curly hair is an interesting challenge, and it seems to me every time you get your hair cut, you are rolling the dice!

I have a hair appointment next week.

#1 good curly day, #2 good straight day, #3 good in between (actually styled straight, then curled with a iron for my attempt at ‘beach waves’ LOL!
