Hi Clairelouise! Great name by the way, heh. I'd say there is no way you are an apple with that flat tummy. More like a rectangle with a full bust. I bet you'd look great in a slim straight-legged jean that doesn't squeeze your calves. Have you ever tried a wrap top or dress? I bet they'd be stunning on you. And welcome!

BRAVO for posting a picture! I can't tell you how nervous I was posting my "what is my body type" photo. You have nothing to be shy of here with that lovely figure of yours!

I, too, find it a bit challenging to tell what your body type is under the scarf and cardigan. From what I can see, I'm inclined to say rectangle, but the inverted triangle and hourglass types might also apply; I can't tell under your current clothing.

What I can see of your shoulders suggests that you have a strong shoulder line (ie, they don't slope downwards), and some women who don't like that may choose to borrow a few pages from the IT book to de-emphasize them. But that would be a personal preference, not a "rule" ... and anyway, I'm not 100% sure about the shoulders without a clearer photo.

Would you mind if we asked you to post another front picture, sans scarf and cardigan?

Welcome! You look terrific, all the more so for a mother of three!

It's quite difficult to tell your body shape with the clothes that you're wearing. Are your shoulders wider than your hips? If so, you may be an inverted triangle. You can measure all the way round your shoulders with a fabric measuring tape to find out.

If not, you may be a Racy Rectangle with a larger than typical bust (though perhaps not after nursing is done).

Take a look at Angie's recommendations for both of those and see what you think!

Thanks!

I think I look best in loose trousers or bootcut jeans, and fairly form fitting tops, I have only just recently figured this out though... lol.. working hard on my style but I'm in the process of re-doing my wardrobe since having my 3rd baby, I ended up with nothing that really fit me which is so hard on the self confidence.

I'll look at the hourglass, you're right that my hips are not much wider than my waist at all, i'm such an odd shape, I think. And i hate my legs so much, need to focus more on showing off the parts that I *do* like...

to add-I wouldn't wear skinny jeans as I think, contrary to many stylists that these are very hard to wear and don't flatter many shapes.I don't see it being flattering to your shape either. I would suggest boot cuts to you or straight legged jeans. I can also see If your shoulders are slightly bigger than your your hips-A line skirts be good on your which will balance the slightly wider shoulders, as opposed to straight pensil skirt.

Welcome, dear:)
your waist looks the same size as your hips according to pictures so to me you are more of a rectangle, leaning toward hourglass. I think you have have a great figure, it looks very proportionate. Have you tried styles geared toward hourglass shapes?

Hi there - and Welcome! I am terrible at figuring out body-types without a "visual." The best way (IMO) to get it sorted out is to bite the bullet and post pics of yourself in form-fitting clothing - front view with arms down to side - and side view with arms down to side. Although its a little painful to actually "expose" yourself that way - you will get the most accurate analysis that way and it will make the next steps in figuring out how to dress your body-type much easier and less stressful!

I just signed up for the forum after following Angie's excellent blog posts for a while.

I've read so many articles about body type in various places and yet have no idea really what I am.

I'm short, 5'2", and a UK size 10 (I think that is a US 6?)

I had a baby a year ago and still nursing so my boobs are pretty big right now, usually I am a C/D cup but right now am measuring an E..

My waist is defined but my hips are quite narrow. My tummy is pretty flat thanks to exercise.

And yet, to make things awkward, my calves are huge. I get tall boots from special shops because I love them or stretchy ones. I LOVE the look of skinny jeans but they look pretty awful on me.

I've been told that I am an Apple shape before as I am busty yet narrow hipped, but then I have a flat tummy and chunky legs so the fashions that usually are geared towards Apples don't flatter me at all.

So... help!
