I'd actually live in mine (ballet with slight half-inch wedge) if they didn't pinch across the ball after a bit.</p> <p>And I'll second the backpack, especially if you can find one that converts to go on one shoulder when you prefer. My best shoes are my running shoes by Saucony but I dont' subject my students to them. I've also switched shoes halfway through a day and that helps. Can you leave a generic pair at work? That's where I'd leave the Sanitas . . .</p> <p>I found good walking shoes and good standing shoes do NOT always overlap :-(<br /> and I don't suppose there's a lot of boot wearing weather there. Africa, Chile and SW Australia) -- not really four seasons; a long hot summer, a short cool and wet winter, and transitional weather in the spring and fall. I have two wardrobes, plus transitional pieces like blazers and sweaters for layering. Our summer has been so long and hot (still in the 90s this coming weekend), I have started to re-think my seasonal wardrobe allocation. Since our heat is a dry heat, I have actually worn leather booties (sans socks) when it's under 95. I wear them with bf jeans. I wonder if this might work for your situation? The low chunky heels (3" or less) feel solid and the protection/coverage would be good for those uneven, crowded city streets.</p> <p>If I find some cute leather shoes with lower heels I will PM you (always looking for ones like this myself). Or is it impractical to order things from the US?</p> <p>ETA -- for more than 4 hours standing/walking, this is what I wear (#2). Not cute or stylish but they are supportive, and durable. I just finished a 9 hour day on my feet in them without any breaks. Sanita Professional Clogs. Or Dansko Professional. The non-professional do not offer the same durability or support as these do. As some of you might remember, at the beginning of this summer, after 10 years in the US, my husband and I returned to our home country to be near our families. I've been following the blog and checking up on the forum from time to time but haven't been able to participate.<br /> Because of the move and my new job, there have been a lot of changes in my life - a much longer and warmer summer, an unbelievably long commute, lots and lots of citywalking in a very old city with uneven and very crowded sidewalks, teaching two lecture classes where I have to stand up for at least 6 hours a week in front of large groups of students. My wardrobe has been handling the transition fairly well, except for the shoes. My high-heeled shoes (even wedges) have seen practically no wear and have been relegated to the deep end of the closet. I've been relying on sandals and ballet flats all summer. I think my high-wamp shoes (particulary boots and booties) will fare better. Some of them do have high-ish heels but they feel much more stable and comfy than pumps. But, I still have to wait for the weather to cool down a bit more to start wearing booties.For now, I am a on a quest to find affordable, comfy, real leather shoes with very low or no heel, but it is proving very difficult. Online selection is very limited and how I miss the very generous return policies in the US!:) I also need a new, sensible handbag solution. I am lugging around only a very light and thin laptop along with my wallet, keys, phone, etc. so I don't have a very heavy load, but still I need to walk a lot and carrying a messenger bag is starting to take its toll on my neck and back.<br /> I am still trying to adjust, so I don't think I will be around much, but I will continue following the blog and the forum.
