NaNoWriMo is all about adapting it so it's helpful for you (IMO). </p> <p>Ana, I have the same problem. I've gone back and looked at my old NaNo novels and they would need a heavy rewrite to be usable (although I flatter myself that part of the reason is that I've just gotten better at writing in the intervening years - last year I got pneumonia in November and was out of it most of the month). I don't think I'm a 2k a day person, even when I have something already outlined - it's just not that good when I force myself to write that much. I am way behind in word count - but honestly I've "won" NaNo before (with something way too rambly to be publishable as is) and this year I've got so many projects on the burners I'm not even trying to do it the proper way. I'm just trying to use the word goals as motivation and go to some local meetups and write-ins. </p> <p>Nadya, one of my critique partners is a big outliner - I'm middle of the road, for short stories I often wing it for a first draft but for longer pieces I'm getting around to needing outlines or I'll spend way too much time revising.
