Keep an eye on 6pm for Fryes. They always have quite a selection for 50-75% off. Amazon too, although they're harder to sort through.

Suz, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who can't wear Keens. SA's look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them I can't wear them. Trouble with a deeply contoured footbed -- it either fits or it doesn't.

Greyscale, I hadn't seen the full DM Lite line, only the ones with the white sneaker-style sole, which I'm not so into. The more traditional looking ones are much more appealing to me!

Firecracker, those Frye's are beautiful! I love their men's models, although a bit out of my price range this year, I think. Most Frye's are too narrow for me, although I have a pair of Veronica's that are fine (secondhand, so it's possible the previous owner stretched them -- it's very soft leather).

Going to try to visit the local tack shop later to scope out Ariats and see if they stock wides. Not much fashion shopping where I live, but we do have plenty of farm stores!

I brought home a pair of the Taos Ringer in red. Loved them but decided styling them was too much work. Insoles are removable. The Crave looks fun with all of the colors available. I'm not sure about widths though.

I'm guessing Fryes run too narrow in women's sizes, but perhaps something like this men's boot would be worth a try. However, if Ariat paddock boots are what you're after, they are a relative bargain! I think the Ariats are pretty cool looking. I kind of like the zipper version, too.

Not an outlier on Keen. Neither I, nor my daughter (who is not biologically related to me) can wear them. Arch is in the wrong place entirely for our feet. Agony to wear.

Love the idea of paddock boots.

Dr Martens has their new DM Lite collection that is, in fact, really really light. I can't decide if they're exactly the thing for me, but they do have a lot going for them. Unisex sizing (yay) - I also have wide-ish feet (toes especially) and they fit well. Though, I only tried them on for a minute in the store so I'm not sure.
http://www.drmartens.com/us/p/dms-lite-newton
http://www.drmartens.com/us/p/.....newton-bts

The Ariats are great! I have a pair of black Ariat paddock boots, left over from my riding days. They wear incredibly well (more than 15 years old) and I often get compliments on them as regular street wear. And tack shops often do sales this time of year.

Paddock boots -- brilliant! I haven't had any since I my teen years -- I rode competitively 'til theatre and poetry slams started taking up too much of my time. Had not occurred to me, but lace up paddock boots are exactly what I'm looking for. Shadow equestrian persona.

La Ped - ariat comes in widths. Amazon often carries them, great if you are a prime member. The Heritage lacers and h2o extremes are great. the heritage lacers are real paddock boots, I find them very elegant. I wear mine weekly at least, and the h2o extreme are gortex, for cold and wet but I wear them all year round, they are not hot on but they do keep my feet warm. Hope that helps.

Oh, I wish I liked Keens! They just do not fit me. I try a couple pairs every year, hoping they'll work, but I always find them heinously uncomfortable. Something about how the toe turns up, I think. I'm an outlier on this one, I know. :)

Also -- I definitely do not need these to be gear boots. Ideally, they'll be just a bit daintier than my Blundstones (you wouldn't think that would be such a tall order, hah!). I'll try to find links for the pairs I've tried on (I was at a local shop, so don't have Finds for them).

I'm thinking the Euro comfort brands (Reiker, Josef Seibel, Born, etc) might be the next place to look.

For toe space, I think Keen is a good brand. I saw some on Zappos, and they look like gear of course, because that's what they are. But a good friend swears by their toe space.

I'm on the lookout for a pair of lace-up boots with a mid-height shaft (approx 5-9") but I've been striking out. I've tried two pairs so far, one from Wolverine and one from Teva, and both were definitely too narrow in a B width. This style of boot seems really hard to find in women's wide sizes. The only one that keeps coming up is the Cobb Hill Bethany:

http://m.shop.nordstrom.com/s/.....en/3736934

But there a couple of style elements that make these somewhat unappealing to me: the zip on the back, the contrast stitching, and the rounded heel all to my eye detract from the menswear vibe I'd like and push these too far out of minimalist territory for me. Also, none of the colors are quite right.

I might consider a pair of Doc Martens, though they're a bit heavier (visually and physically) than I'd like. I'm a US9/EU40, so I'm open to trying to find a men's model in my size, but most men's boots I'm seeing are a little bit shorter, closer to ankle height rather than calf height. Again, maybe I need to add a pair of Docs in the 1490 height (DH has black 1460s, I'd need something a little different so we don't get confused). What do you all think? Have you seen any lace-up boots (preferably true lace-up, no zipper) in a C/D width or built on a wider last? Ideally in a not-too-shiny black or a very dark grey...
