It looks good! I especially like the color. That extra panel on the shoulder is called a gun panel. It’s meant to cover up the gap at the top button of a double-breasted trench, so water doesn’t run in when you raise your arms to shoot. On a single-breasted coat, when you’re not actually in the trenches, it’s just a decorative nod to heritage.

I would keep the hood on I actually long for one myself, too-as never had a trench with a hood and often regret that! I think the belt doesn't have to be tied so tight- or you should arrange a bit of more fabric to the back (on hips level) as the pleat on the back is a bit overly opened, but this may be only a personal prefference as from the front looks great this way, too. (I often feel restricted, and barely tie my belts at all, just put it's front edges in my pockets on front and good to go. Oh, and sometimes wear my treches with the front completely open, too).

I always wondered about the extra only one shoulder flap (are there trenches with symmetric panels?) but thanx for clearing it up for me, Joy!

Lucky to have found a customizable trench! I think it ticks your boxes and looks good. I like it with the hood and agree with the previous comments.

I think it is a keeper and would keep the self buttons and tie the belt loosely. Lovely color on you. I keep my removable hood on my trench most of the time, except for dressy occasions. That way it doesn't get lost and it works to visually balance out my sway back. The extra shoulder panel is a common detail, especially on a military styled trench. I suspect that the originals had them. To me they make a trench look more expensive.

Looks ideal. I have one with a removable hood and I only remove it if I'm certain it won't rain, or if I was wearing the trench as a topper to a dressier event. It doesn't ruin the lines.

Still thumbs up! It is normal to have a flap on one shoulder of a trench and I think the belt is tied just right - but I don't like the look of a too tightly tied belt so keep that in mind.

Ok ladies, thank you for your patience with my previous post. I do hope that these pics will give you a better sense of the trench I found.
Back story: I have long wanted a dark blue, longer, single-breasted trench with some military detailing. It was the very essence of a HEWI - absolutely impossible to find in an iteration that ticked all those boxes. Even this coat didn't quite do so initially. The store carried tons of coats, but the single-breasted style lacked all details while the one with the military detailing and the proper length was double-breasted (not ideal for busty me) with overly high belt loops. Enter the brilliant sales associate who pointed out that this store made its own coats and could easily combine the elments I wanted into one garment. And so, voilà.
My questions are as follows:
1. Does this work? Colour? Fit? Length? In these images I'm wearing it over a midi-length lounging dress I hang out in around the apartment, which is about as long as my day dresses would get. And would this length still look ok with pants and/orknee-high or otk boots?
2. Should I switch out the buttons for something with a little more punch like pewter or silver, or are self-colour buttons the way to go in this case?
3. The hood is detachable. Does it ruin the lines of the coat or look decent enough for every-day wear? I would take it off for dressier occasions.
4. I see there is an extra panel of detail on the left shoulder but not on the right. Is that a thing with trenches in general?
5. The belt doesn't currently stay fastened if I cinch it tighter than this, which would normally be my preference. Does it look alright when it's tied more loosely?

Thank you in advance for all feedback! So hoping I can put this particularly trench dream to bed once and for all, but I will keep looking if that is the YLF decree. :)
