So, just to be really sure, I decided to try the size S for comparison. It's on order after I got measurements from the jcrew stylist and they were so similar between the two. I'll try to post an update when I get it. I want to try to be as sure as possible this time around with the chambray shirt.

This shirt looks great--I really like the color as well as the fit. It's nice that you can wear it with the boyfriend jeans, since it's not the same color and yet it coordinates. I really like the vest, too. It plays so nicely off the bracelet you're wearing in the closeup. It seems like it will be a fun piece to have--different, and yet in keeping with your style.

I'm late to this, but I love this chambray shirt on you. Nice stylings. It's tempting to try another one, since I have an odd little collection of denim/chambray shirts and it seems like none are perfect -- too heavy, too fitted, pockets too lumpy to layer a sweater over top, etc. I'm kicking myself because Nordstrom had one at NAS that was really nice and I didn't get it. I can't remember now, but I think it might have been Halogen?

I like the vest for you too -- great with that bracelet!

Yay! I'm glad that the tuck adjustment helped. I also sometimes pleat my shirt just a tiny bit when I front tuck. It brings in vertical lines that slim my middle, or at least that's what I think. And I'm totally with Aida, that I think the long length keeps this looking particularly modern and intentional. I think if you tear the tags off, you'll find it really is the perfect shirt (or as perfect as any shirt is)!

I was going to suggest the same as KP on the tuck. You can also work side semi-tucks well with longer shirts, along with Angie's version where you tuck the front and back while leaving the sides out. I rather like the longer length, somehow it casualizes the shirt even more (and it's already pretty casual to begin with, being chambray!). Perhaps the "too much shirt" feeling is coming from the fact that it's very near denim, is probably thicker than a normal button-up shirt, and the oversized pockets. To me, this reads as an oversized shirt and all those things I just mentioned play into that charm. If you are after a more classic chambray, I think a shorter (and possibly smaller) one might be in order.

K. Period - yes, I think you're right. I tried it just a minute ago and it is better that way. Although it is for some reason a lot of shirt on me. It's weird because I hang it next to another shirt of mine and they are the exact same length. And I can't size down as shoulders wouldn't fit and this one *feels* great. For some shirts I can sort of tuck the back up and it just stays. This one has just a little more weight to it and so I can't use that trick.

For such a long search I was hoping "perfect" would really be perfect. Tags aren't off quite yet.

Great shirt! I think it fits you very well and is a very flattering shade.

FWIW, for the partial tuck with a shirt with a long back, I tuck most just in the very front, then let the sides sweep down so that there is a softer transition in length. Maybe that would help?

After pondering some more, I'm kind of wondering myself about the semi-tuck (for me) these days. With shirts like this it does feel a bit odd to me to have a "tail" of sorts. I think I'm going to have to experiment more with my tucking skills. This shirt is 28 inches long, so it is on the slightly longer side. But many of my shirts are similar I think. Maybe I need to do a nearly full tuck. I know I don't like a "tight" tuck.

Thanks everyone!

AngieT- it is a longish shirt, but not tunic length and it does tuck just fine (not very heavy but just heavy enough not to be a mess of wrinkles).

Suz - belt cousin it is. Sorry I didn't look close enough to realize the style was different. I do love the pewter color but funny they call it silver.

Claire - it is slightly distressed but only in the wash, not any rough edges, tears, holes, etc. I wasn't sure it would make it past that "test" for me either but once I tried it on I was pleased.

Alaskagirl - the color is gold on the vest. I was inspired by a vest worn by an actress on the show "Royal Pains" when she wore something similar. It goes pretty well with my hair and coloring but it does have some "bling" that I'm not sure I'm totally comfortable with.

Yay! You found your chambray shirt! I think it looks great, but the most important thing is how it feels to you. If it passes your test of not too stiff, dark, worn or distressed then I give it my blessing.

This one is gorgeous on you. I love it with all three bottoms and with your fun vest. I vote keep the vest and wear it a lot! I think the shape and color will make it work for casual and dressy. It's fabulous with chambray. I would love to see it with black.

Like several other YLF members I've searched long and hard for "the" chambray shirt for me. I've purchased too many to name. Most were too stiff, too dark, too heavy, the wrong fit/style or just didn't feel good on. Finally I think I found one that fees like "me." It feels right. I did the try on before looking at it test and I loved it. It's every so slightly distressed - not enough to feel "aging" to me, but enough to feel lived in. And it seems to fit in easily with the first three things I tried it with - brown jeans, blue jeans and tan ankle pants.

What do you all think? I mostly semi-tucked it but it looks pretty good tucked all the way too. I think I tucked it all the way with the jeans.

#1 - Jcrew chambray shirt paired with brown jeans and Sesto Meucci sandals. I added my new "pewter" Fossil belt (waving to Suz) and my mixed metal bracelet and gold pendant.

#2 Jcrew chambray shirt paired with KUT from the Kloth Catherine BFs. Same pewter belt, pewter Aerosole sanals and same mixed metal bracelet and gold pendant.

#3 Jcrew chambray again with JC tan Andie chino ankle pants, pearlescent tan Brighton belt and sandals.

#4-5 Wildcard item K/R?- this gold mesh vest is a wildcard. I bought it on a whim during the Labor Day sales because it looked fun for casual nights out. I may or may not wear it with an outfit quite like this but I just threw it on to show it. It's a little out of my usual comfort zone but for some reason I am drawn to the sparkly feeling and light weight fabrication for my hot weater. I think I'd really wear it over a sleeveless tank (white or black) with jeans and strappy sandals. I've included a detail shot in #5.

Always appreciate your feedback!

Edit: and pardon the wrinkles, it's still got tags on and fold creases.

ETA: Added at the end in comments a semi-tuck question.
